Face Off Against Moanday: A Start Of Hockey MMP

After this weekend I hate handegg again, but tonight is the first preseason hockey game of the year. So check your bin schedule so you don’t miss it(or worse, leave it out and look like a slacker), and hijack away. I’m be in the sun room practicing my wristers.

I just lost a couple of hours watching the KC Chiefs play the NY Somethings. Lackluster football. Two hours I’ll never get back but at least I got three loads of grandchildren laundry folded while I waited for it to get interesting.

Now off the bed to rise early and go to a dental appt.

Annie knew I was late. Since I didn’t wake up at my usual 3:30-3:40, she started wiggling and making noise at about 3:50. Now we’re sitting here waiting for the day to begin. Today will be cramming for IEP meetings that start tomorrow. A friend was helping me last night while I was falling asleep. When I woke up this morning, she had dug up the test scores that I needed at about 10:40. So very nice of her.

I did hear back from Crafty Girl. We exchanged dog pictures and I sent her a picture of my ring-bending setup. That was also when I was getting ready to fall asleep. Hopefully there will be more chatting in the future.

I think it was Red who asked about places to put the furniture. There is technically a library in this house, but it is known as my mom’s bedroom, so not too many other places available. I talked MusicMan into letting the antique loveseat go back upstairs to the bedroom. And I think I can make everything else work out ok.

Happy belated birthday, Oopsie!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and mostly sunny. RDOS inactivities is the plan of the day. Nowhere we need or want to be, so we will be hermits as is our wont. Sup will be chikin ‘n dumplin’s and collard greens (cooked yestiddy cause they’re better cooked the day before they get et).

I do not understand hockey, but I do support whackin’ people with sticks when it’s needed.

 I see I have been remiss!

< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

From last night:

mazes - corn mazes. Dunno where the typo came from, k and z aren’t even adjacent on the keyboard…

You are SMRT!!!

FedEx finally sent notification that my yarn will be delivered today. Big surprise - it was in Hagerstown for something like 9 hours before leaving that hub. I’m assuming it’s in Upper Marlboro by now, but with them, assumptions are foolish. For all I know, it could be in Tupelo. So we shall see.

Dunno what today will hold - I was thinking about trying to dig up the iris in the bed that the landscapers will re-plant. I’d hate to lose them but I’m not going to pay extra to have them save them for me. We’ll see if it happens or not. Since we had rain again yesterday, the soil may be loose enough for me to dig fairly easily. And I need to look up how to deal with them till I can replant them.

I managed to get another little mat off Ziva. It’s been a long, slow process, but I think there’s just one left that I can feel. Apart from the one large almost bald spot on her right hip, you’d never know she’s been clipped here and there. What she really needs is to be shaved, but she won’t stay still for that - at least not with me. Fortunately, I have no intention of showing her, just as she rarely has any intention of showing herself, altho I got a lapful of cat for a while last night.

And so begins the day/week/autumn. Happy Moanday!

Good Moanday morning all. Up around 6:30am, but since my bladder let me sleep all night, feel pretty good. Fairly active day (for me), do some shopping and banking this morning, am supposed to referee soccer about 5:30pm (but rain is due between 10am-1pm so it might get rained out) and maybe get some other things done. 10-day weather report says we won’t make it to 90F this week (high will be in the 80’s) so just maybe it is starting to cool down here. Nothing major on the agenda this week, doubt I will do any hockey-watching, doggio, just never been that much into the game.

My bins (both garbage and recycle) are in their proper places in my garage and won’t be going outside until Wednesday evening (it’s on my weekly to-do’ list).

BBBoo, if I’m at the gym, many of the machines I use have TV’s on them so I watch the games while walking/pedaling. From what I could see/hear, the talking heads on ESPN radio will have no lack of things to say about this week. Hope the dentist trip today is uneventful.

Sticky Buns, happy cramming and chatting.

I can back that stand.

FCM, hope the yarn finally ends it’s trek at your house today.

And been up long enough for the ‘pill on an empty stomach’ to take effect, so yes, I will have a banana to break my fast. Have a good week all.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/54f with a predicted high of 13c/56f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Mild weather is bad for those of us in the fucking weather business. Bring on the fucking storms”.

I don’t like sports enough to want to watch any of them, my only interest in football (soccer) is knowing when our local team has a home game as that has an impact on our Saturday activities.

Today is the first day of Welcome Week for our new students. I am on campus on an unscheduled day so I have not got much done at all, but I did manage to attend one of the induction sessions so I know what kind of stuff the students get told.

I’m trying to get a bunch of stuff done but the other person in the office with me today wants to talk and grumble a lot about stuff. I listen and sympathise, but it’s not getting my work done either.

Good morning.

It’s 50°F, dark, and clear outside. Sunrise is a little over an hour away, and autumn officially begins here at 11:19 a.m. It’ll be mostly sunny today, and our expected daytime high is 75°F.

My garbage and yard waste bins will go down tonight so they can be emptied tomorrow morning.

Sticky, I’m glad you got the furniture thing sorted, and I hope the IEP prep/meetings go smoothly.

I haven’t decided whether to cut the grass today or go shopping for a new pair of jeans. Time will tell. I could conceivably do both, but clothes shopping takes me a long time. No two brands fit the same, so I have to try everything on. Have I mentioned that I hate clothes shopping with the intensity of a thousand burning suns?

Shoe, yeah, I don’t understand how the joint can remain open with all those leaks. Closing it would suck for all of you who depend on pay, though. I hope everything is fixed tout suite.

Nellie, so sorry the noisy neighbor stuff continues.

Well, not much else is going on. I continue to monitor my email for a response to my comp time question, after having sent yet another email on Friday. I’m eight days away from being “officially” retired.

It’s time for more coffee and some real estate perusal. My son wants to buy a home now, too, but he’s going to wait another (just under) two months to have pay statements that reflect his big raise, before applying for pre-approval on a mortgage. We spent some time looking at homes down where he lives and comparing notes. He’s very excited about the prospect of having a place with a yard so he can get his own dog, and so we can visit him and bring our dogs.

Please take care of yourselves.

I could never get into hockey. I love football.
More stupid rain predicted.

I do too. Got a varsity letter in field hockey lo these many years ago in college. Used to call it “running around screaming, hitting people with sticks”.

Sounds like we might take the same pill. Mine is thyroid. The kicker is I have two empty stomach pills to take, one after another, 45 minutes apart so it feels like forever before I have my first coffee and half the time I’m out of the house and end up going without breakfast. Getting old ain’t for sissies…and now we’re back to running around screaming and hitting people with sticks.

You’re allowed to enjoy more than one sport, there’s no limit. Football is my favorite but I enjoy watching basketball and volleyball too.

For these things, shouldn’t they be called ‘corn maises’?

I woke up to an email from eBay. The MGB driveshaft I listed a year or so ago has sold. It’s been boxed (well, ‘tubed’) up in the back room. Now it’s out front and I’ve put a shipping label on it. Now I know what I’m doing for lunch today.

Now Im thinking of Nicholas Cage because of the title.
I also like figure skating and mmp fights.
Not a girly girl.

the weekend is over, le sigh. saturday, i did a different shopping area on the shopping trip. i scored turkey slippers! the shop rite had really good ready made food so i have lunch for the week. then there were random bursts of tidying over the weekend, between reading and knitting.

back at the office. the big computer swap happened on friday. this morning when i logged in everything came right up. no 15 minute wait for outlook to open and be useable. i had forgotten that i had rearranged things at my desk for the new computer set up. there will be little readjustments as the day goes on.

autumn has fallen. the leaves are turning at a rapid rate. the end of the year holidays are lurking around the bend. the creeping dark is getting more and more noticeable.

We need pics!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Plans for the day include taking out the trash and going to the Xfinity store (finally!) to get my phone set up with them before the next AT&T billing cycle begins.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Yep, me too (Levothyroxine), but don’t have to take a second pill later.

I had to google that, it seemed so oddball that it couldn’t…yep, it is a thing. And isn’t a faster computer nice.

OK, enough slothing, need to get dressed and head out on my errands.

Still summer in no. Illinois. We could use rain, so send some towards us. My bin day is Wednesday so I don’t have to deal with that for at least 36 hours. The only sports watched in the wetone household are tennis, track and field, and downhill skiing.

Up and getting ready for the annual boob-squishing appointment. Aside from the tortilla press, the part I dislike is that it’s like vertical Twister: “Right arm up. A little more. Left arm here. No, here. Move your left foot in…”

Bend me, shape me :musical_note:
Anyway you want me

I will also talk to my sister (the recently scammed one). Then there’s housework in preparation for the friend who’s coming for lunch tomorrow. She’s diabetic, so I’m making this chicken-pesto-quinoa dish I’ve made for my cousin and her diabetic husband. Quinoa has a low glycemic index and is high in fiber, so it’s OK for diabetics.

The only football I watch is the Super Bowl. My ex was an avid fan and a sports writer, so the association makes my silly brain get dark and panicky. Hockey is better. I’ve gone to semi-pro games. My favorite part is the Zamboni.

The figure skating might put you in the girly girl territory, but I think the fights—waaaait a minute. There are fights in the MMP?

Sticky, I must have missed something. Do YOU have to DO the IEP? Color me boggled. I’ve probably gone to 100 of 'em, but without a degree in special ed, I never had to do all the prep and setup. I can’t even imagine. Wishing you the very best of luck!

MetalMouse, hope you don’t get rained out. Also, how cool is it that we can now know the hours it’ll rain?

I’d better break off and eat breakfast before I go.

.

I realized I meant MMA. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Mornin’ all. It’s about 8am here in the Bay area as I start to drivel. I’ve kept up w most of last week’s MMP, but not all. Hugs and congrats as appropriate to all, but especially major hugs to Sensei for his sad anniversary.

We successfully memorialized both deceased folks yesterday with a turnout of about 75 non-deceased folks. They were both very vibrant people in their day, and it was gratifying to see that they got very close to equal time and equal adoration among the various speakers.

The weather here has been remarkably summery too. Although the Bay Area is a mass of different microclimates, where I’ve been has been summery-er than usual for that spot.

My eldest cousin who’s a couple months older than I has been in a LTR for decades now with a really great guy who’s 13 years older than she. Sadly, that age difference has come home to roost and at age 80 he is now seniling out, just has cousin’s father had. Right now he’s fully able to participate in simple conversations, or regale you endlessly with well-rehearsed stories of the past. But it’s real obvious he’s retreating into his own internal fog of fuzzy thinking and incomprehension. More shuffling than walking. I knew him fairly well 10-15 years ago and this is such a decline from his prior vigor.

Their age difference is/was just about the same as me versus BB. Once of the few reasons I would be reluctant to make a life with her was the reality of saddling her with me getting older ~15 years ahead of her. “Age is just a number” she often said. And I agree when we’re talking people in their WAG 20s to ~60s. But outside that middling age range, the years matter a lot. As my late wife’s condition deteriorated, she put on a credible imitation of aging at super speed. So I got to experience being vigorous while married to an “elderly” infirm person. A heavy burden for sure.

In other excitement, we had an earthquake last night: M 4.3 - 2 km ESE of Berkeley, CA. This occurred under the town where I’m staying, so right up close and personal.

I was in bed but awake when the house started shaking. The usual few seconds of strong vibration, few seconds of the whole house flexing & creaking and everything jostling, and about the time you think “I wonder how much longer or worse it’ll get?” it subsides to just quickly fading reverberations, then silence in the dark.

Once I got up in the morning I looked around and nothing seems to have been disturbed, much less damaged. So an entertainment level quake, not a big deal one.

As best I recall, I was in my late 20s in Las Vegas the last time I felt one this strong. I had a mild one at the hotel in Mexico City maybe 8 years ago.

GF arrives tomorrow and we both can hardly wait. Her long weekend trip with her GFs went well, and I think overall this timing will work better than had she been able to accompany me since Friday. There’s only so much you can enjoy attending social events where everyone knows everyone else and you know nobody but your date.

So I did the usaual Monday 300 Slide thing. Then I wnet to load 100 Bottom Blue. The one car had 380 packages on it. Including 10 16"15" Next Day Air boxes for one stop, 4 other bulk stops, and 600lbs. of flat pack furniture for a furniture store. And whoever was loading before me loaded it weird. But I did my Aldi run, they apparently redid the whole store last week. Anyways, Spot’s had his ice cubes, I’ve had my dry, flavorless bits, so now it’s time to nap till hockey time.

I missed the word “laundry” when I first read this.

One of the former Canes players also did figure skating, and could do a single axle in full hockey gear.

What witchcraft is that?

< drops gloves, pulls nellie’s jersey over her head >

Yay!
