FairyChatPots – a MMP ceramics giveaway, and stuff.

Just to clear things up if need be, that should be Not OUR Taters. fcm meant that.

rosie! That sounds terrible! Could you be allergic to the Band-Aids? I’ve heard that some people are.

I am loving the House at Grrr Corner. Does it have an Eeyore stable? I might use that more. Thanks for listening…

Billing hell commences today. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tupug

Because someone mentioned it previously, The House At Pooh Corner

Rosie, that sounds icky, do what doc says.

Sort of on subject, I did have a TMI dream last night, where I had some strange oozy stuff coming out of what was probably a dream-boil on my forearm. Lots of it, like in, it filled the bathroom sink.

Sorry, should have spoilered that.

That would be TDMI!

Congrats picu!

You really need a Canadian Trapdoor Alligator for SheBoss, Nava. What’s a Master’s in Translation do/require? (Says the person who regrets every day that she didn’t learn more than “uno dos tres” in Foreign before her brain turned off the Easy Language Acquisition switch.)

rigs, just remind yourself that TH is not worth the jail time you’d get for killing him. Sadly. You should get Rat from today’s Pearls Before Swine to “take care” of the matter.

I had a brief trip to The House at BIWFYSU Corner this morning. I was clicking through my LJ communities when I ran across some anti-Semitic AIDS spam. (Basically saying that the Jewish diet is unhealthy and will give you The AIDS. Indian food will also give it to you.). I scrolled through the comments and I suddenly realized…this was my community. I was too pre-blurf to notice the icon at the top. So I checked my messages, replied to the people who reported it, deleted the spam and banned the asshole. This asshole was special because he managed to hit two of my most sensitive pet peeves at the same time: AIDS is not an autoimmune disease and I’m not too keen on people who Godwinize things. Part of me wants to let the asshole know he just got his butt kicked by a German, but since the post was reported as spam to the higher-ups at LJ I can only hope that a suspension is imminent.

And I still haven’t woken up completely yet. Must get pot of tea this afternoon for lo it will be a long day.

Thanks for the Ash Wednesday input. I think we do have communion. I did email someone at church, but if I don’t hear back, I may just buy bread during my regular grocery run tomorrow and if we don’t need it, I can always stick it in the freezer until next Sunday when we definitely will have communion.

Sorry there’s a lot of grrrrrrr going around the MMP. Makes me very happy for a job I really like with amazing coworkers and for a really really great husband who I only occasionally generates minor, temporary annoyance. (I, on the other hand, never annoy him. :stuck_out_tongue: )

Hope the infection clears up soon, rosie. That doesn’t sound like fun at all. Ick!

Hope **TaterDot **feels better today! (I like that nickname, criminy!)

That’s the weirdest thing I’ve heard in… forever?

Mmmphhhggss.*

chugs XL coffee #2 for the day

In other news, Miami Friend just texted me to confirm his flight is leaving on time and that he shall be landing in TO this afternoon as planned. Yippee!

I won’t be seeing all that much of him, since he’s actually in town for his old roomie’s bachelor party, but since he’s crashing at my place there will be plenty of time for catching up on each other’s lives and bitch about our respective jobs. (he’s one of my bestest guy friends… we used to go out dancing Every. Single. Weekend when he still lived here). Very exciting stuff.

Spaz, people like that fill me with Teh Grrr. I hope he gets suspended right quick, and gets forcibly shipped to India where he’ll be force-fed violently spicy curries until he sees the error of his ways. (BTW, what in the hell is a “Jewish diet”? Admittedly, matzoh is awful stuff and causes near-instant constipation, but AIDS is a bit of a stretch from there)

 • That’s the sound of me being too sleepy to even blurf.

Yay Picu!

Get all those ducks in a row, Ivory. Remember to serve them cold!

**Rigs **-- can I rent a room in the House on Grrr Corner? Just on general principal, to be honest, but I think I could use a weekend there…

**Rosie **-- yikes. Hope it clears up quick. Listen to your doc and tell him if anything happens you don’t like!

**Nava **-- You have just proved you don’t have to be a member of the Male Persuasion in order to be the proud owner of a pair of Brass Cojones

**Spaz **-- seconding Muppet’s question; WTF is “Jewish Diet” (and where can I get some? and don’t say “Israel, duh!” or I’ll use your head to hit a trout! Or a carp, maybe… :p)

**Haze **-- your pictures are always worth waiting for

Me, I got nuttin’. But it’s almost my weekend, so yay. I guess. I’ll probably have to work through it, anyway…

Back to Grrr Corner. there’s a nice grindstone here which I really should be using to get my nose into shape…

Lunch, as long as you’re not using a gefilte fish… because that would get messy.

Damn.*

I’m working on actually getting up when my alarm goes off, but it’s hard! Especially when you stay up until eleven. Frikking mornings come too damn early.

 • that’s not-a-morning-person talk for ‘blurf’

I sent you an email if you have anything left!

What do you think a Carp is, if not an early incarnation of Gefilte Fish?

runs in
waves
runs out

McUNE!!! Howdy!!

**Rigs, **don’t feel bad about The Scream–it’s been coming for a long time and it’s totally understandable. TH needs to figure out that you don’t actually owe it to him to put up with his shitty behavior any more, and that you don’t actually HAVE to make nice if you don’t want to. Seriously, you were alone in the car with him, he behaved badly and it’s not like it’s the first time either, nobody but him was affected and I think it would do him simply a world of good to be very, very unsure about what you might do or say next. If he thinks you’re crazy and unstable and likely to get stabby at a moment’s notice perhaps he’ll walk a bit (or a lot!) more gingerly around you and maybe even get a little fire lit under his ass to GTFO. Win!

“The House at BIWFYSU” is cracking me right the hell up! I know a few people who spend a bunch of time in the Eeyore stable, too…

I’d say “watch your ass,” rosie, butt it seems you have that covered…

I’m sending an extra head scratch your way, Spaz, 'cuz that’s a definite WTF? Jewish diet? Is it the extra plates or what? Pplz iz dum…

Good luck on the duck wrangling, Soapy!

Unfortunately, cj, he’s just randomly barking out at the street, and it’s metronome barking, once a second or so. He’s not after anything, he’s just bored barking. This is new behavior for him, he’s perfectly used to being outside when the family’s gone… He’s also gotten very porky and doesn’t get enough exercise, poor baby.

Well, the saga of the Dog Baths continues–yesterday we discovered that our usual bathing spot no longer has dog baths and the other close one is closed on Tuesdays AND Wednesdays, and the other one I knew of has become another business entirely. This has now become a QUEST, dammit, those stinky little aminals WILL BE CLEAN TODAY!!! Ah well, it was a gorgeous day to be out so therefore not a total waste of time…

Gots to go shower, laytah!

It was merely a case of survival, Nooner. I suspect that, since Sheboss’ unused ovaries are more of the rusty-tin variety, the whole attack of these last two weeks may merely have been her version of mobbing and she now thinks she’s “won,” but hey, whatever. The way I see it, he who dies having lived best wins :stuck_out_tongue:

The requirements for this particular masters are, apart from having a previous college degree which they reckon is high enough (even if they consider the Spanish Ingeniería Superior suspicious, due to being from “the old plan” and therefore not having the CE stamp, my MS in Chemistry from the USA does count for sure), 9 months of coursework and some sort of research, for a grand total of a year. They also offer some sort of diploma, which is the same minus the research, but the thing is, in Spain a “diplomatura” is to the normal “licenciatura” degree like an American Associate’s is to a Bachelor’s - I’m not planning on trying to explain the Scottish educational system to someone from HR or Purchasing. Masters aren’t quite a part of the Spanish system but somehow they manage to be terribly prestigious, specially if taken abroad.

And I’d pay “local” rates, being from the EU

So far the worst problems I’m having with the applications process are that they want proof of my ability to pay (and I don’t know whether a printout of my bank statements from the web will be ok, as apparently UK folks don’t like those - including Royal Mail) and that I need “two academic references” and well, I left my Spanish school in 94 and UM in 98. It says I can use a professional reference if I’m employed full time, I’ve asked whether I can use a couple clients (one current as of today, one older… if they say I can, the older one will be a friend for whom I did some translations, he was my second paying client and can put “Doctor” and “Professor” in front of his name :D)

Baking question for **LiLi **and our other resident bakers. I came across the below cocoa fudge cake recipe and was thinking about making it, but it’s not the way I would normally make a cake at all. Have any of you heard of mixing things together in this order, and, if so, does it work well? (Note: this shouldn’t go on the recipe blog 'cause I don’t know how it’ll turn out. It sounds very un-chocolaty to me.)

Combine 2 cups white sugar and 2 cups flour in a large bowl.

In a medium saucepan bring 1 C butter, 1 cup water, and 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder to a boil. Pour the cocoa mixture over the sugar and flour and mix it together.

Whisk 1/2 cup milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp baking soda, and 2 eggs together in a small bowl. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture. Stir until it’s thoroughly incorporated.

Bake in 9x13 pan at 350 for 20-25 min.

taxi, I’ve made brownies before using that method, though my recipe involves mixing all the wet ingredients together and then adding to the dry, rather than doing it in two separate batches.

I know it seems unintuitive if you’re used to the “cream butter and sugar, add eggs, then mix in dry ingredients” order of operations, but you do still end up with cake at the end.

ETA: Miami Friend just landed! YAY! zooms homeward to play hostess

Did somebody start an MMP this week and not tell me?

Sorry, but all I’ve read is this page. Things have been busy and at times crappy. But I guess life goes on, right?

Have fun, Muppet!

cabbie, that is an odd recipe. It doesn’t follow the rules for fudge or pate a choux and it isn’t the creaming method for cakes. It seems closest to pate a choux, where the sugar should be boiled with the butter and water, then dumped into the flour and mixed to a ball, then the eggs beaten in. Weird.

Smartie, I see. I’m sorry you have a Barkley to deal with.

My big happy: my bestie from Calgary is coming out after Easter!

My little happy: Jalapeno whole wheat & corn tortillas are now stocked at our local grocer’s. Enchiladas for dinner tonight!
