Fakey blonde hair- do men really LIKE this?

Bad blonde hair seems to have become an epidemic, at least around New york city. Every other girl on the street has, not normal blonde hair, not highlights, but FAKE, FLAT-COLORED hair that is either predominately YELLOW or WHITE- about 50% of these with dark roots. Now, I’m not normally one to bash other people’s styles- myself being rather eclectic, and also having dyed my hair multiple times- but, IMHO, this is becoming ridiculous. It’s as if natural-looking hair is no longer desired, and it doesn’t matter if it’s blindingly obvious that you’re dying your hair or not.

Examples of the type of blonde hair I’m talking about:

Avril Lavigne

Ummm forget her name

Claire Danes

Paris Hilton

Normal Girl 1

Ashlee Simpson

Normal Girl 2

To contrast, here are some of what I consider to be GOOD blonde hair examples:

Naomi Watts

Hayden Panni… Pane… Pantytiara… whatever

Faith Hill

Carrie Underwood

I have nothing against dying one’s hair blonde. In fact, if it goes with your features and looks good, then go for it! But, IMHO, when it’s a flat white color, with no highlights, it looks absurd. I think very few women can actually pull off platinum blonde without it coming across as a “stripper” look. It also ruins girls’ hair, which is why a lot of bad blonde dye jobs look frizzy and unmoisturized.

And since when did the prescription for changing a normal girl into a “hot” girl become simply giving her fakey dyed blonde hair? It seems like a lot of normal-cute girls think that this type of blonde hair is going to improve their looks a great deal. Is this a Pamela Anderson holdover?

I can’t imagine that intelligent men enjoy dry, fake white hairdos on girls. To me, it looks trashy and cheap, especially when you can see the girl’s dark roots on top.

Can I have some opinions on this? I don’t understand this trend whatsoever. And men, do you care? Do you really prefer this white-blonde hair on girls who would otherwise be light/dark brown?

Roots showing? I care about that?

Personally, I can’t stand it. I think that hair dyed blonde looks awful.

I like it very much.

Normal Girl 2 is totally hot.

I can haz yur blandes plez?

As a guy (who’s fussy about looks yet straight), I’ve found that dyed hair that has the roots showing through almost always tends to make your hair look like it’s mid-molting or something. Adding on the extra layer of infeasible coloring doesn’t really change matters much except to give a sort of porno cast to yourself.

Some women look good with it, some don’t.

This gentleman prefers brunettes, and I wouldn’t turn away a redhead or a brownie, but realitively few girls actually look good blonde (even some who are natural) and the obvious so-bad-it-must-be-intentional peroxide blonde look needs to go in the fashion reject bin along with those google-eyed sunglasses and thongs-on-parade.

Stranger

I’m a man. (I’m not forty.) And I don’t like it.

There are things that can be done with hair, even with dying hair, that looks good. Bleaching dark hair is not one of those things.

Isn’t inner beauty all that matters? Are we not all being shallow by judging the color of other people’s hair? If you really love someone, does their hair color matter?
*No point in this post really. Other than to say looks can matter.

Seems to me that women who do this tend to share certain intelligence/personality traits. I tend not to find those traits attractive in a prospective mate, but I’m sure that there are plenty of men who do.

Sign me up in the “NO” category. Especially if the dark roots are showing. Maybe it’s just me but dark roots seems to make women look much older. Natural hair color is pretty much immaterial to me and can look good regardless.

Testy

Never mind the hair on top: what I don’t understand is those models who bleach or dye the hair on top but not the hair below.

I couldn’t care less what colour the hair is. If it’s natural, clean and healthy, that’s good. If it isn’t all three, that’s bad. If a woman wants to dump half a ton of chemicals all over her hair, that’s her right and her business, and of course whether or not I happen to like it is of no importance. Maybe she does it because the results make her feel better about herself. So be it. But if you ask me my opinion, natural always looks better than any alternative.

I still have trouble grokking the idea that a person can change their hair color—that it isn’t a vital statistic like height or eye color or skin color or whether you have a star on your belly.

I don’t care what men like; when I dye my hair I do it because it is what I like. The good thing about dying one’s hair is it can always be changed - as many of those women liked in your post are prone to do.

Chicks care what men like? I thought they were screwing with their hair for other women.

Do I like it? Depends. I think Avril looks terrible as a blonde (comparatively. I mean, she’s still hot, just not as hot as she was). Some women look good with fakey blonde hair, some don’t.

Personally, I find blonde to be a dull hair color, fake or real. Red or black are better in my eyes, or even outright unnatural colors like green or purple.

I think it’s the holy grail of fashion to stumble upon a look that both provokes envy in women AND attracts the menfolk, too.
