Eh, stop at season 3. It’s all downhill after that. (well, sort of a sine wave. It goes waaaaaaay down for 4, up for 5 (still not as good as 1-3, though) and then down a bit more for 6 (but not as far down as 4.))
Just my opinion, though.

House, ER, Monk, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad. Out of sheer, morbid curiosity I will tune in to the GEICO caveman show to see what happens. I also plan to give **Californication ** a try.
It was iffy whether it was going to get renewed at all, and there is a somewhat limited 18 episode order for this year. And it’s the final season by all accounts.
I’m really looking forward to this, just because I loved “Rome,” and the character of Lucius Vorenus had a large part to do in that. I just hope the plot is actually good, and not hackneyed, zomg!dramatic, or otherwise weird.
Now, if there were a guest appearance by Titus Pullo, I would be in heaven.
I’m also looking forward to the return of Ugly Betty, 30 Rock, The Office, My Name Is Earl, and Medium. New Amsterdam, Chuck, Reaper, and Moonlight look interesting, too, but I’ve got to draw the line somewhere. Of course, I could do something productive while I watched them, like fold laundry or liberate buttery popcorn from this mortal coil.
The only new show that I’ll be sure to check out is Journeyman, because I recently watched Rome on DVD and Kevin McKidd really impressed me.
See, I really like your definition of “productive” and wish to become your disciple.
I watched the movie Topsy-Turvy again a while back, and I was amused to see Lucius Vorenus as a vain, corset-wearing actor with the role of Nanki-Poo in The Mikado.
From Ain’t It Cool News: This Fall’s Scheduled Premieres
Retiurning shows:
Heroes
NCIS
The Unit
Jericho (although technically it’s not a fall show, it’s a midseason replacement, which will make it a winter show)
Lost (likewise)
CSI
Supernatural
New Shows:
Journeyman (even though it will probably end before it reveals how he’s traveling through time)
Pushing Daisies (likewise)
New Amsterdam (also probably short-lived)
House, certainly, and The Office.
For the new shows, I want to see “Big Shots”. I love me some nighttime soap opera, and some Michael Vartan and some Dylan McDermott. Yum. And it’s educational, because apparently it will let me know what men really talk about.
I know I am really looking forward to Reaper. With Kevin Smith as the director I know its going to be sweet. This one just looks pretty funny overall. It premieres September 25th.
Ooh, I just found out that *Moonlight *has Jason Dohring in it - the guy that played Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars. With vampires + Logan, I’ll have to give it a try.
We now have something like 12 TV shows set to record this week. That’s ridiculous.
New stuff:
Chuck, Aliens in America, Samantha Who?, Reaper, Cane, Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, Bionic Woman (at least one episode), Dirty Sexy Money, and Viva Laughlin.
Returning:
Dancing with the Stars, How I Met Your Mother, Heroes, NCIS, House, Ugly Betty, Earl, 30 Rock, The Office, Grey’s Anatomy (at least one episode), Desperate Housewives
Mondays at 8 and Tuesdays at 9 are my difficult schedule days.
I love TV.
I started a new job right after Labor Day, and it’s 45-50 hours a week, so the only TV I’ve watched all MONTH are the first two episodes of Gossip Girl (not by choice) and Talk Soup and Real Time With Bill Maher while I unwind on Friday nights.
Sounds like lots of good stuff, but I’ll probably never get to see it. Heck, I wanted to catch up on Monk and Battlestar over the summer, and never made it past season 1 on either of them…
