Any TV can be a smart TV with a Roku or other streaming stick. Inexpensive and easily set up. I’ve been using one for about 15 years, so check your current TV, if it’s still good otherwise, for an HDMI port.

It was a restless night. I couldn’t get comfortable in bed or the recliner, so it was switching back and forth all night. The new med seems to be causing some nausea (damn! I finally got rid of that and now it’s started again), but at least it’s only for two weeks. An Aldi run for some more saltines and some ginger ale may be in order today. I know, WAHHHHH!
Also a potential solution for the laces untying… Hey, no-one said anything about untying them.
It is actually starting to feel a little autumnal up here in the far northern wastelands. There’s still butterflies and flowers and stuff around, but the swifts have left, the swallows are going and the general feel of nature is starting to change. I’m feeling the urge to fill the larder full of food and stock up on everything, seeing as I can’t migrate.
Something has scrumped one of my apples- only 4 developed, they’re tiny baby trees- so I’ve wrapped up the survivors with some fleece, in the hope it discourages whatever yoinked it from nobbling any more. Wasn’t even ripe.
Fully exercised and puzzled. Avocado on pumpernickel bagel this morning with a side of scrambled cheesy eggs.
I dried the thyme and oregano yesterday and put the result in glass bottles. I will tackle the sage whenever the wife clears the breakfast dishes. It’s somewhat surprising how little you end up with when all is done.

Methed Up Squirrel Girl went home sick, so I got called in 2 hours early to do the clerk work. The Senior Clerk and John, the driver who takes the Mail Innovation stuff to the Post off ice dump bin were on vacation, so I was covering them, too. It was slow enough, I was almost out before 9. But TPTB slow trickled pacakges to deal with to me, so I was out at 0945. I did my Aldi run, and filled up Carmen. Nobody tried to plow into me today. I’m having my dry, flavorless bits(with dred cranberries and mil), and will head to naptime as soon as the Good Ice Maker finsihes up.

My brain is sufficiently frazzled to stop for the day. I did a sensible thing and arranged to get the stove swept next week, which I’ve been putting off since about April.
Anyway, on the subject of growing and harvesting things, I grew a tomato. Interesting tomato
It’s very small, but size isn’t everything. I’m quite proud of it.
We turned on the gas fireplace yesterday. We were going to hold out until September, but it’s been quite damp and the house heat doesn’t do as good a job of dehumidifying. It’s sunny and cool. Our autumn starts poking its snout out of the leaf litter in mid-August. However, the little potted up rose of sharon has its first blossom, and most of the flowers look great.
Today has been a day of chores and laundry has been going all morning, with probably 3 more loads to go. I had noticed some things hadn’t been getting as clean as I expected, and it turns out that storing liquid laundry detergent in the garage (on top of the washer) is a bad idea - it gets too hot and degrades the quality. So with a new bottle of detergent and some enzyme powder, the loads are coming out much better and even gotten some stains out.
The bathroom needs a once-over and then hopefully that’ll be the end of chores for the day!

Never had a lot of luck with dill, especially now that we only have pots to plant in. I tried it a few years ago and only got one frond with very little on it. The sage is in the oven now at 170 and the door open to let the moisture escape.

Mollie, thanks for the pic and I wear loafers most of the time so I don’t have to worry about tying my shoes (when coaching/refereeing I have athletic shoes with laces that occasionally unravel, but not so often that it is a hassle).

The nausea has subsided enough for me to be peckish, so I went with some rice topped with a poached egg, some soy sauce and dried chives. Easy on the stomach.

We started out the day here with 55Ferrets, currently at 64F and climbing to a high of 81F. My neck of the woods must’ve gotten swampy’s memo, since today is the last warm day in the current forecast. Starting bang on the 1st, the highs are forecast for no higher than 77F all week, with most clocking in around upper 60s and low 70s. And rain!! Delightful!
As for when Fall begins, I’m an equinox/solstice girl. While I recognize that Nature takes her own course with respect to leaf color changes and the like, there are other immutable signs of Fall having to do with the astronomical situation: Hens stop laying eggs, and I mean you can practically set your watch by this. The equinoxes (equinoxi?) are the only days when the sun rises due east and sets due west. So that’s out of the way.
swampy, who makes boxed lasagna? Just curious. I don’t mean who buys the boxes and makes them, I mean what company sells them?

This is a sweet explanation, but it wasn’t marking behavior. It was uncontrolled, “Oh, I am so excited and somewhat nervous about this new situation that confronts me, so I shall spray like a wee (pun intended) fire hose and splatter all who come near!” behavior. Ollie usually goes through this in any new situation, so I was prepared and made sure the first meeting took place outside. Still embarrassing, though. Our vet’s office nicknamed him Pee Dog for the first 3 years of our attendance there. Ditto the kennel. He finally got over those, thankfully.

Lily, I have my furnace turned off completely. Just letting the open/close windows take the weight of temperature control for now. But it’s definitely cooler further north, so I’m glad you went by as needs must instead of a date on the calendar. Keeping on top of humidity in our area is important.
I’ve made this mistake, too. Although detergent was much cheaper in those years. And it’s always nice to get bathroom-cleaning chores out of the way, isn’t it? I have 3 to clean, and I rotate the job to do one every other day. Ok, every couple of days. I may look for shoe’s Pink Stuff.
Well, pond leak remediation efforts continue to fail. I think it’s time for me to have a more pointed discussion with Pond Guy about his methods. I have limited funds to throw at this problem, and frankly, if he thinks it’s too late to fix, then I need to accept that. I do think putting in some fill material such as gravel before adding the bentonite clay material might help, so I suggested that in my email to him. < sigh >
As mentioned, I’m waiting for pest control folks to show up. I haven’t spotted any wasp/hornet nests around the place this year – that’s rare! At least they’ll stay away from the house and outbuildings with the treatment.
Not much else on today. Good! Time to go scare up a meal.
I decided it was time to continue the dinghy project, so I got FCD to show me how to wet sand it. There’s not a lot to it, but I’d have done it wrong if he hadn’t told me to keep the water running over it while I sanded. All the crud and adhesive has been removed. There are a lot of gouges in the fiberglass, but then it’s an old dink. Next step will be painting it and installing a new skeg. The old one was pretty close to rotten.
I literally got soaked to the skin. So now I’m in dry unders, a housecoat, and slippers. All the tools have been put away and I think I’ve earned some chillage.
Supper will be ham, crinkle fries, pineapple chunks, and I’m thinking green beans, too. Not much else on the agenda beyond that.
Keeping on top of humidity in our area is important.
