I was gagging and had to leave the room during the poop scene. It was a bit much for my delicate sensibilities;)
The whole thing felt like a stage play. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some actual two-man play it had been patterned after, or at least a “recipe” for writing such a play.
The whole poop bit… yeah. I can see why they put it in there, but I didn’t enjoy watching it.
I watch Family Guy for the laughs, not for the philosophy or the character development, and this one just wasn’t particularly funny.
It felt a little “Kiss of the Spider Woman” to me. Very loosely, mind.
I enjoyed when Brian brought up “The Dog Whisperer” and Stewie just sort of under his breath said “Cesar Milan” the way pretentious babies often do, to show they know all about the subject.
That wasn’t bad, but it went on much too long. It’s ok for a live performance, but in animation it didn’t work that well. This Brian and Stewie episode had some truly cringe-worthy moments and definitely rates, IMO, as bottom of the barrel humor. And again we are reminded that Brian is more a dog than anything else.
I didn’t see this episode, nor have I watched much Family Guy in my life, but just from the descriptions in this thread, this sounds like one of the strangest half hours of TV ever aired.
which in its own right is funny on some level.
Even stranger - it ran 40 minutes!
Meh. I think a comedy should be funny. This is the first time I actually felt like throwing up when I saw something. For the first time, seeing someone throw-up at something seemed appropriate.
And then there was nothing really funny after that. Sure, we got them to finally say they loved each other. But we also know that Stewie was still being a bastard making Brian eat his shit. Sure, we found out Brian is depressed. Surprise!
Sorry, the only thing funny was the [del]homage to[/del]copy of Jerry Lewis’s number. I never thought I’d be thinking South Park was funnier than Family Guy.
The whole thing was painfully boring to watch. I turned it off about halfway through when they decided to get drunk and pierce Stewie’s ear. The whole shtick about Bryan “doing dog things yet he can talk” are funny as little snippets here and there, like the time Meg threw the cross to get Bryan to accept Jesus (he then ran to go fetch it). Dragging out the poo eating scene made me look at the FF button and pondering if it was going to get any better.
Ditto. It was easily the worst episode I’ve seen. Complete waste of a half hour. I didn’t bother to watch the musical numbers part.
IIRC most of the musical numbers were just reruns anyway. I watched Shapoopie and skimmed the rest.
