[I can’t believe it! You bastards killed Brian!! What the hell are you guys thinking?!]
I’m thinking next week he’ll be back like nothing happened. Because Seth likes to fuck with his audience. So Brian’s dead and we keep Guido Vito or Brian isn’t dead and we have been fucked. Either way, Seth seems to hold us in contempt.
They’ve been advertizing the death of a Griffin family member before the season started. This is in the continuity. It happened. Just like Peter losing his job at the toy factory and Bonnie giving birth.
Although it may also be like Peters parentage, which is changing all the time. He was black once, and possibly still is, somehow.
nvm
Didn’t they make a big deal advertizing how Stewie was finally going to kill Louis? That stuck for exactly one episode.
That was revealed to be a visual reality what-if at the end of that two part story.
I don’t know if it will be some sort of trick, or dream, or whatever, but they are at least saying that it “really” happened:
At which point Brian and Stewie basically admitted that the audience was probably pissed off about being screwed around with.
I’m less worried about character continuity than I am about these entire freaking music videos that they keep putting in episodes. I mean, I don’t mind a little Conway Twitty but a whole song is just taking the piss. And there’s absolutely no excuse for that “Dancing in the Streets” video.
My biggest complaint is that they replaced him with a one note Italian stereotype character. Gee, lets see how many Sopranos jokes we can wring out of this before it gets not funny.
On top of everything else, the episode (IMO) wasn’t funny, it was more like one of those "Very special episodes’ we got to see back in the 80’s when a family member died or tried a sip of beer or got in to trouble at school for smoking.
I’m in denial right now. If Brian’s dead forever, and not just cartoon dead, I’m not buying it. I keep seeing scattered reactions, and one thing I picked up on was that some episode descriptions for future episodes involve Brian.
I did not see this. I did not read this post. Brian is still alive.
I think of him as Schrodinger’s Dog. Except for the talking part.
Also Stewie talked about fixing his time machine. I know he said he couldn’t get a part for it (titanium capacitor?) but maybe he’ll figure something out.
And I’ve somehow managed to avoid all the advance notice, so last night came as a complete surprise to me, and up until the final credits rolled I was still expecting them to bring Brian back somehow.
Then I went online and did a little research. Apparently the writers were feeling that Family Guy was getting played out, and they wanted to shake things up. (Famous last words before a show jumps the shark?)
Square brackets prevent the mouse-over? I did not know that.
Me, too.
Given that the Brian/Stewie dynamic was the only thing that made the show watchable anymore, this seems like a mistake.
The art for the “new” dog is terrible and the Italian mobster schtick got old after about two minutes.
If Brian stays dead, who will Seth Macfarlane use to lecture the audience about atheism?
Dyslexics. Because now there is no dog.
Oops!
I should have said it was “Announced” before the season began. I don’t believe it was actually advertized more then a week in advance with their usual promo for the next episode.
Here’s an interview released last night.
It doesn’t inspire much confidence. It was a thrill killing. They just wanted someone dead and Brian got chose by process of elimination, and a car.
