"Family Guy - The Quest For Stuff" game

Yeah, while I need a break, I think with this terrible update SOMETHING should have happened today. I’m not entirely sure I logged in today… I will try not. I’m sure if I stop playing tinyco will think it’s because I’m disappointed the event is over instead of the event soured me so much I can’t be bothered after it’s over. I only logged in the last few days on the chance that there would be a “Now earn twice the jelly” thing going on.

Like was said above, I’m FINE if stuff is offered as premium-only. Then I can decide if I want to spend money. But don’t tell me it’s possible to earn it for free when you really can’t. EA is really lucky that the STonecutter update was so good and the 4th of July stuff looks interesting because Easter really turned people off. Can tinyco win people back?

I’m going to go with: No, they won’t.

I liked the adventure update fine, and frankly I think just as many people might have disliked it if King Butt had been premium-only. “Just give a chance to win him for free,” or some such.

I’m now on my way to getting Peter’s roller-skating skin. I’m disappointed that the fireworks quest line just fizzled out after I’d spent all that (game) money on them.

I saw Peter’s rollerskate skin and knew immediately that I didn’t care enough to grind it out, even using the airplane mode trick. I then blew all my cash on trying to get the white flowers.

I think part of the problem with this game is that while they’ve improved on some basic gameplay mechanics (a nice zoom out, tapping elsewhere on the screen will back you out of a menu), it’s fundamentally too frustrating to design and decorate a town. And there aren’t enough options to really get as creative as Tapped Out. I guess I really do need a working, interesting town-building game wedded to the jokes to be able to hold my interest for more than a month or two. Sorry, TinyCo, but I’m out. Maybe if I break my leg and end up in traction I’ll pick it up again.

I guess there was a major update today. I say “I guess” because I can’t get into the game. Another in the long list of complaints is that somehow they’re MORE crashier than EA!

Stewie is finally in the game. Not having him near the beginning is probably the biggest issue in the game.

I deleted it in a ragequit yesterday. I couldn’t get in for a almost a week (meaning I couldn’t complete the bikini task so soon after not being able to finish the mummy thing). I have been able to visit Ollie once in the last month, so I missed out on butts and clams. Not to mention that if I had friends I wouldn’t have been able to visit them, but I don’t have friends because of the facebook requirement. Crashy, expensive, tedious. I stopped watching the show years ago so I figured it wasn’t worth the aggravation. It started out so promising, but went downhill way too fast for me to keep going.

Well, i think TinyCo has fixed the airplane bug.

If anyone is still playing (and it seems like the vast majority of folks are dropping out), please try it and let us know. Because. I have had no luck in using that bug to hasten my collection of items.

And right now, there are so many items to get, it is almost imperative that the glitch still work. Of not, these could take forever.

The one thing I have also noticed, is that for each new thing that needs items collected (Carter Pewterschmidt, peter the falconer skin, and there is something else), there doesn’t seem to be a time limit. So it looks like they took away the glitch and are now going to force folks to grind out the game.

I just got the glitch to work for me the last time a skin was being created. I used it, and man, did that save time. I was done about 4 days before it closed down, so I could see the benefit of having that glitch during the king butt/jello shots event. I didn’t use it on that event and didn’t get everything…

But I just tried the glitch on Quagmire, the doctor, and Mort, and did it approx. 10 times for each character before giving up. I didn’t receive one item, although the action of the glitch, of leaving the game and coming back in after a hard kill, and resetting airplane mode all seem to work correctly, on my game, at least, TinyCo. Patched that beautiful, beautiful glitch.
I told myself I would stick it out until Stewie showed up… And now he is almost here. So I can’t give up just yet. However, I don’t see much ROI for this game.

Also, I created a FB acct. just for games, and I have 8 friends now. It doesn’t matter. You cannot tell when neighbors visit your town, and there is no incentive to visit anyone else’s town (aside from the 30 coins from each visit). On the plus side, visiting friends is a breeze, much quicker and easier than TSTO, so doing it isn’t painful at all. It is just pointless.
If any of you that have quit that still have the game on your device, could you please test the glitch and let me know what you see? I hope they didn’t clean it up, but. I never had to try more than 5 times before this latest update, and I always got the item. I think we are doomed.

I am not sure why…

I mean, who cares? It would be nice to see him, sure. But this whole game is pretty boring. How many times can you put the same character on the same task over and over again?

And the different outfits, although a nice idea, are not executed very well at all. I mean, Peter has what, 6 outfits now, and I rarely use any of them, unless one is required for a task.

Which brings me to another question. What happens if you don’t have anime Peter, and that character is required for a quest? You can’t ever get beyond that step?

This game is rather boring. However, I haven’t had the crashing issues you all have had so I can’t complain. I only play an average of one time per day, though, so maybe I am just lucky and pick a time when the server load is low. TSTO has crashed k. Me each time I have tried logging in since their last update, so I haven’t done too much over there.

I am not sure why I even play these “games”. They aren’t really games at all.

But yes, now i am in pursuit of Carter Pewterschmidt, Brian’s banana outfit, and peter’s falconer outfit. All requiring characters to repeat the same inane tasks for weeks on end until all the stupid little things are collected. Like banana peels. Brian needs 20 of them, and i have found 1. After a 12 hour task. This isn’t enjoyable, it is torture.

If someone can explain to me why I am still playing this game, I would be grateful. It can’t just be because I made a promise to myself to stick it out until i got Stewie, can it?

I think the big test will be when I have finally received Stewie. Will I finally feel a level of completeness? Pr will I then find a need to find Tom tucker and Channel 5?

I think you are right. I just tried it a bunch of times and it didn’t work.
It would have been a pretty easy fix on their part. You just roll the device when the task is assigned instead of when you collect.

Yeah, they really need to change how they do things. Collecting 10, 20, 30 of the same item just means you are tasking the same people with the same jobs over and over and over…

Another nice little “fuck you” that TinyCo. has put into this release is that if two different characters are collecting the same thing, once the first collection total is met, it erases all the ones that you’ve collected for the second character.

In english, what this means is that you have to collect all required items… No doubling up.

For example, I had to collect jewels for two different characters (I can’t remember which, but lets say it was for Carter and Stewie. Both required 15 jewels.).

I found Carter first, and had 2 jewels collected for him before finding Stewie and starting his count.

So every time I collected a jewel, carter and Stewie’s totals were listed on the top right of the screen, and carter was always 2 ahead of Stewie. When Carter reached 15, the damn game started Stewie back down to 1. So now, I am stuck collecting 14 more jewels.

This blows.

TinyCo is making this game hard to stick with. Once I get all the characters, I am out. I don’t know why I am going to wait until then, but I feel like I have wasted enough time on this stupid game to at least get all the characters. But I really have no valid reason. It is not like I am enjoying the game.

TinyCo sends me a “hurry back! You are missing out on all the fun!” or some goofy line like that when I haven’t played for a day, and every time I read it, I think “what fun?” How is it “fun” to send each character on the same jobs over and over to hope they get an item, like a feather or pair of slippers? This isn’t fun. This “game” is only a “game” because TinyCo calls it a game.

This is how it has been working for me the whole time.

That’s a bummer. I am pretty sure I got the double count items until this latest update, which was nice. To have to start completely over again after being 2 away really sucks… Especially when the total reflected the 13 collected before sliding back down to 1.

Curse you, TinyCo!

I need to find one of the blogs out there for this game that is similar to the TSTO blogs floating around out there. This game just doesn’t seem to have the same amount of players/followers. Maybe that should tell all of us something.

The other thing is that the asian news woman has only three tasks, and I have only put her on the 8 hour task… Which puts her inside a building. She is quite possibly the most pointless character I have ever seen (except for the elephant and the iguana over on TSTO.)

At least Stampy was free (and somewhat amusing) and Jub-Jub comes with a building, his own task, and one for Selma with Jub-Jub.

Fair enough.

All I have that asian reporter do is try to impress her mom (or whatever that task is, i don’t even know I just assign it.)

I have noticed another strange glitch that doesn’t happen consistently, but I have seen it enough to mention it. Every once in a while, it seems a task is sped up, for no apparent reason. Today, for example, I put Seamus on his day long task (something about falling in love with a table or something). I went back to the game about 10 hours later, and that task was complete. Not sure why, and it doesn’t happen all the time… But every once in a while, i see time move faster in the game.

I’ve been wondering what the effect is of visiting someone else’s town. I mean, you get money for it, but what does the friend get? Maybe it speeds up their task if you click on it?

Interesting. Maybe this would explain why some of my character tasks have been accelerated on occasion.

I have not noticed any real benefit to visiting friends. You receive 30 coins at each town, and you have a chance for one clam at Ollie’s, but that’s it. Not exactly enticing.

And I have never received a notice that someone has visited my town, which is just fine by me. But this is very different than TSTO. I have a feeling there is no upper limit on the number of friends you can have, but I only have a few, so i have no way of checking this theory either.

One thing I do like about the friends in TQFS is how quickly you are in and out of a town.

Just noticed that there is yet ANOTHER collection game going on.

It is for some of Stewie’s toys for a “tea party.”

However, tinyCo has fucked this release up… At least from my perspective.

They are using characters that are already on multiple-hour tasks for other items for Stewie, Carter, peter the falconer and peanut butter jelly Brian, instead of using free characters, like Cleveland or that blonde girl (cant remember her name), who are both collecting nothing at the moment.

I don’t know when they released it, but I logged in this morning at 11:30 to find that I had 30 minutes to collect 6 blow up giraffes (or whatever they are) to win Rupert. I thought this was a joke, since none of my characters were currently free, and this was the first time I saw the update. But it wasn’t. The first item was Rupert, and he is already gone. (I am not that upset, if the picture they have up for Rupert is the one they would use in the game. It is rupert’s head on top of a chiseled male body in a speedo.). However…
It appears that the other items are all earned with a cumulative count of giraffes collected. So even though I missed Rupert, Instill have to collect those 6 items before starting on the collection for the next item. And each item is only available for 24 hours.

I have no idea how long it takes to collect 6 giraffes, but even of each character drops a giraffe each time their task is up, I don’t think there is enough time to get enough of them with the time I have left. This morning, I started all of my characters on tasks before seeing this Stewie update, so I have to wait up to 12 hours to get some of these characters free.
I am really beginning to loathe this game. Which is probably good, because between this thing and TSTO, i have wasted enough time tapping.

I don’t understand the logic at TinyCo. They go forever without any event, and then when they start one, they dump so much shit at you at once, it is just mind-numbing. I mean, collecting things for 4 different things at once wasn’t enough, so let’s add a fifth one to the mix! And the fifth one is only for the weekend, so in order to get the items, you have to stop collecting for everything else, and focus on these stupid giraffes for 2 days.

Hey TinyCo! Fuck you! (Allllllll right. Giggity giggity!)

Ok…another SFP note to himself.

Anyone else suffering through this “win Rupert” thing? I cannot believe how poorly TinyCo plans these events out, not to mention how poorly they announce things. I suspect that this isn’t because they are incompetent boobs, but because they want to maximize their money generation. And it must be working, because I cannot explain why they continue to do things the way they do.

For instance, this “win Rupert” and Stweie tea party event ran from Saturday morning until Tuesday (today) night. The problems with the event:

  1. unless you are completely obsessed with TQFS, or have some way of knowing what is coming before it is announced (which I do not, and I am not obsessed with the game either… At least not to the level necessary), you missed the first day either partially or completely.

For example, I logged in when I got a chance sometime Saturday, around noon or so. I saw the announcement for the tea party, but i didn’t read it that closely (ok, that’s my fault, not TinyCo’s), and I clicked through those announcement screens to get to the collection of any prizes I am still chasing down for the collection of Falconer Peter, PB&J Brian, Carter, and Stewie. Once I click on all the characters and put them back on their quests to get another one of these stupid items to collect.

I come back to the game later that day, around 7 pm or so, and finally read the tea party screens. Ok, I find that i need to send 4 characters that are currently collecting crap for one of the four other items needed for the game mentioned above to try to get a toy for Stewie. After collecting 6 of the toy, you get to open a present. After 14, another toy and so forth…

So I put all 4 characters on the quest to get the toy, only to realize too late that I have no chance to get the 6 needed before time runs out to collect one present for Stewie. Saturday, one day of this “event” has been waisted."

2). The next days aren’t much better. Unless you wake up at 10 pm PDT, and start your 4 characters on their tasks, you will not have a chance to get 3 presents without spending clams. On Saturday, I was able to get “only” 16 clams, which permitted two presents to be opened. (No Rupert, but I’m ok with that). 16 toys required 4 cycles of the 4 characters to get their toys each and every time. And the toys have been falling for me at 100%, but that isn’t really the issue. In order to get the third and final prize, you need to gather 24 toys, which is impossible. That would require you to start each character 6 times in a 24 hour period, (which IS possible) and collect their toy prizes and set them on their way again within the 24 hour period (which is NOT possible.). You HAVE to spend clams to get that 3rd present, if you are so inclined.

I have quite a few friends now on my Facebook game account, and judging by other towns, and the comments people are making on the TQFS FB page, many people are spending real cash on this game. Which is, after all, the goal of TinyCo. Make money. I have no problem with this, but I don’t like how they have gone about getting people to open their wallets. Making folks come oh so close to completing a quest, or finishing an outfit, or whatever… And the only way to make all the hard work pay off is to spend money is NOT a good way to do it, in my opinion. However, I am looking at it from the players POV, and a Freemium POV at that.

Most of the players I am friends with don’t seem to mind spending cash, unless it gets up there for any single purchase. But it amazes me how many people think nothing of dropping $20 or $30 on something for their town.

So, I believe that TinyCo.'s model is ingenious and is working, or they wouldn’t keep using it. It is no fun for freemium players, but we aren’t their target audience, and they don’t care if we keep playing or quit.

I can’t say as I blame them.

I have the ability to collect 2 more presents before tonight’s deadline… 2 more chances for Rupert, or some other prize. I will report back at the end of this (to myself, if I am the only one using this thread!) to list all prizes received.

For the record, I still have not landed Carter, Stewie, PB&J Brian or Falconer Peter yet, either.

Reddit is your friend for the Quest for Stuff, perhaps even more so than for Tapped Out, given the game’s extremely short event durations and focus on clam usage.

I skipped the tea party event entirely. I didn’t fully understand what I was supposed to be doing or trying to win, and as you say, it looked impossible to complete. And yes, I find Rupert’s beach persona a little disturbing.

I put a lot of stuff on hold during the Pyramid event, so I am playing catch-up a bit. I am only just now in the midst of opening Asiantown. I have Connie, but I cannot unlock Tricia until I complete Anime Peter, and the headbands just aren’t dropping for me. I am almost done with PB&J Brian and Midlife Crisis Lois. Stewie and Carter are probably still a long way off for me.
