Famous People who wear an eyepatch?

It was mentioned on the show that his character had Bell’s Palsy, and I heard that Sheridan has it in real life, and it was written in.

The guy in question is Stuart Scott. He was working out as a receiver for the NY Jets and got hit in the eye (presumably by a football). Hence, messed up eye. I don’t think he lost the eye though, but that’s an unfounded guess.

Thank you.

He looks alot like Carlton from Fresh Prince, don’t he?

Warren Hinkle, a journalist in San Francisco, wears a patch on his left eye.

Close. Wikipedia says Scott was injured at a Jets practice he was covering. (And I didn’t know that until just now; I also thought it was an athletics injury. Turns out it only happened three years ago.) He was hit in the eye by a machine-launched football and needed surgery on his cornea, so it doesn’t appear he lost the eye. His left eye doesn’t open all the way and his left eyebrow does weird things sometimes, which is what made me finally notice the thing a couple of months ago.

Sandy Duncan lost sight in one eye but she did not “lose her eye”.
Just thought that clarification was necessary.

Tom **Arrrrrh!**nold.

David **Arrrrrh!**quette.

He has a hook as well.

sorry!

Actually, I’m considering starting to wear an eyepatch. I’m been blind in my left eye for some years, and it no longer tracks with the right eye. It doesn’t bother me, but I can tell people are sometimes wondering what the hell I’m looking at while I’m talking to them.

In addition people who think I have seen them suddenly appear on my blind side and startlements ensue. If I were wearing a patch I’m assuming wait staff wouldn’t stand deferentially at my left elbow until they decide I’m ignoring them, or scare the crap out of me.

Yep - I believe he detached his retina when he missed a catch and the ball hit him. He did a story later in which he returned to training camp to work out with the guys (sort of a “this is what they go through for football” story), almost exactly duplicated his missed catch and injury, and almost lost sight in that eye.

I hope this isn’t too personal a question, but does only having sight in one eye have an effect on your depth perception? If so, is it much of a hinderance? I ask because as a kid I had to wear an eyepatch in an effort to correct lazy eye, and all I can remember is that my depth perception was really screwed up. I can’t imagine having the same problems as an adult trying to drive, etc.

I’ve often wondered what happened to Stuart Scott. Thanks for clearing that up.

For fictional, Dean Martin’s character in (I think) The Sons Of Katie Elder wore one briefly for the bar scene with Strother Martin.

Did we clear it up? We offered three different versions of what happened.

James Joyce

Singer Gabrielle used to wear a patch but nowadays seems to prefer sunglasses or a low haning fringe.

Las Vegas celebrity gossip reporter Norm Clarke has worn one for years, since the 80’s at least when he was a sports reporter in Denver.

I remember a member of some hair band wore one for a bit. Firehouse maybe?

Didn’t Saun Cassidy wear one when he was doing soaps? Heck, weren’t eyepatches trendy in soaps for a while?

The depth perception is surprisingly not a problem most of the time. For distances over some small number of feet the angle of parallax is too small for depth perception to matter and you judge distance by other cues. Close up, within 10 feet or so, it is a problem, but not insurmountable.

You’re thinking of Steve Nichols, who played “Patch” Johnson on Days of our Lives. The eyepatch was later spoofed when he did an appearance on The Nanny, which start Days aluminus Charles Shannessey.

What? No mention of Captain Feathersword?
