Graduated 1976 In Ohio.
There were 900+ graduates, one of whom, Eric Singer, went on to drum for KISS.
Also a Amy Stoch-Poynton became an actress.
Very few people will have heard of him, but Angus Davis graduated from my high school when I was a freshman. He went on to be part of Netscape’s elite programming team, and from there branches off with a co-worker to form TellMe Networks.
There’s also Amara Murray, who was the first person from Rhode Island to receive one of the scholarships she received.
And Milton Little, who was featured in some track and field magazine as one of the best triple jumpers in the state, or conference, or something. I don’t remember specifics:)
And Miss somethingorother (winner of a beauty scholarship opportunity, or whatever they call those these days) went to GMU for at least the fall term. I have no idea what her name is or where she is now, but I used to know her mailbox number.
William Faulkner attended the university I graduated from.
Jimmy Buffet and I both attended the same univerisity. Not at the same time and neither of us graduated from there. Bret Farve also graduated from USM.
I graduated from high school with a “runner-up” Miss America.
Hillary Van Dyke, who played Marylin Munster on The Munsters Today was in my class from elementary school through graduation from Camarillo High School.
Deviating a bit, Howie Long of the then Los Angeles Raiders almost killed the high school basketball coach because the coach took offense and challenged Howie when Howie shouted, “Where the f*ck is Camarillo!” The Raiders used to play our high school baketball team in exhibition basketball.
Sorry, coach, you may think you’re tough, but Howie would’ve eaten you alive.
Some members of my college class:
Conan O’Brien
Greg Daniels and Richard Appel (writers/producers of The Simpsons, King of the Hill, etc.)
Crown Princess Masako of Japan
I knew Greg and Richard pretty well (not sure if they would remember me now, though).
Mike Judge’s wife Francesca was an acquaintance of mine in high school.
Jill Gat, SD moderator extraordinaire.
Hi Jill, see ya at the reunion Nov. 9th!
I went to the same college, East Carolina University, as Sandra Bullock. No interaction, but kinda neat.
Jessie Ventura was a senior when I was a sophomore. He was just another scrawny kid on the swim team back then.
Now he’s my governor and he Ain’t Got Time to Bleed.
This thread inspired me to look up the only person I went to school with who might be at least a little famous - Jay Schellenbaum. I had such a huge crush on him, and he was always a kind of shy, unassuming kid. He played drums and I knew that he moved to LA to pursue a music career.
He’s apparently shortened his name to Jay Schellen and he’s been working as a heavy metal drummer. I wasn’t absolutely sure till I saw a picture - now I might just go to my 30th reunion just to see if he shows up.
Umm…the fact that a famous person once went to your college doesn’t count. I think this thread is more about people who you went to school with. I mean, any of us who went to big and/or selective schools could probably make a 48-page list of famous alumnae.
Yeah, my primary school was North Ainslie Public.
On a more Aussie note Fitzroy hard man Mick Conlan also went to Dickson with my brother as did Peter Gifford, Midnight Oil’s bass player.
You mean the folks at 1-800-555-Tell that offer the information services and wake up calls? I love them
Killara High?
Ye gods yes. He was a lot skinnier, his perm was a lot longer, he had really big glasses, and the mandatory braces. One of my yearbooks has a crowd picture of him, I’m going to have to scan it one of these days. The only comparison I have for him is the guy on the Simpson’s (Artie?) voiced by Jon Lovitz who has a thing for Marge (took her to the prom).
He was also the type of kid who tried super-hard to be the class-clown. Always with the wise-cracks, the funny voices, the schtick. To be honest, the few times I actually dealt with him one-on-one he seemed like a decent guy, but give him an audience and all bets were off. Should’ve known he’d go far.
For Aussie footy fans out there, Peter Everett (AFL St Kilda player) went to my high school, a few years above me. Apparently he was a real shit at school and none of the teachers liked him.
That’s the only moderately famous person that’s come from my school, which isn’t, of course, saying much at all really.
I went to the same highschool as Marc Overmars. The Europeans will know him, he’s a football player. Plays for Barcelona now, and previously for Arsenal and Ajax.
The closest thing I have is that Sanjay Gupta graduated a year ahead of me. A couple of years ago he was one of People Magazine’s “Most Eligible Bachelors,” and when those buildings collapsed in NYC, CNN hired him as their medical guy. If you watched at Headline News and saw some reasonably hot Indian-lookin’ guy talking about Anthrax, that was Sanjay.
I didn’t interact with him, but he was (and still is, I’d imagine) one of those guys who is quietly brilliant and about whom no one can say an unkind word. Really nice guy, bright, and funny.
Hope he stays that way now that he’s been recognized…
Whereabouts in WA? 'Cause I know a singer-songwriter from those parts (Denmark area) whose quasi-famous.
Went to college in San Diego with comedians Jaime Foxx and Pablo Franciso (MAD TV) and worked on a college magazine with internet fitness guru Jorge Cruise. Who knew…
I guess you’d call him famous, at least amongst the NASCAR people, but I went to high school with Todd Parrot, crew chief for Dale Jarrett. We even lived in the same neighborhood and hung out together. I lost my virginity in the empty field across from his house.
