Christ. Fanfic quality still hasn’t improved since I gave them up… ::sigh::
Though that diary idear is kinda swell.

In other news, I fixed it. Forget I ever got it wrong in the first place. (That’s in the Code, too.)
Junie, please write a whole Secret Diaries thing. The snippets are great, and deserve to be organised and fleshed out. I’ll give you cyber-chocolate or something.
WARNING: Not very nice, but well written and atmospheric. DO NOT click if you are squeamish, young, innocent, or easily disturbed. I’m warning you, here.
The handpuppet one was amusing; here’s another variant on that: The Preview of the Curse of the Stupid Fanfiction
(Thanks to Te’s recommendations page for both of those)
Oh, now that was worth it if for nothing but the Commodore/Gilette exchange and Jack’s comment on it. ::snicker::
I liked how Jack puts on his effects in the “Preview of the Curse” one. That was an lol moment for some reason.
Oh god, oh god… Mary Sue… Mary Sue! It’s so true! (Sounds like I’m singing a Buddy Holly song…)
Gosh, Spoofe, for someone talking smack about fanfic, you’re keeping an eye on this thread…
Maybe the SDMB should do a Finish the Pirate Story thread, we’ve already covered two genres.
There’s a fantastic OT3-shippy http://www.livejournal.com/community/pirategasm/125532.html]drabble that was posted on pirategasm yesterday.
Also, if you haven’t read Kapunua’s OTSea stories? You really really need to. A rather… unusual pairing for Jack, but it works quite well. I’m linking to the LiveJournal entries because they have all the header information, and there’s another link from there. Sorry to do nested links, but it’s worth it.
First Night in Tortuga
The Drowned Man
At Last
Fortuitous
The Serpent’s Wench
“The Serpent’s Wench” rocked my world when it went up the other day. That is an origin story I can get behind. Love love love.
Still kind of stuck on my own story. I keep telling myself that the thing to do is just get the words down on the page. I can fix them later, I tell myself. But I get caught up in ruthlessly editing as I go, and then I get to feeling that my prose is so stilted that I may as well give up. Then I drink. This is a cycle I would like to break. Suggestions?
The link to the Slashers of the Caribbean seems to be broken. Is anyone else here having trouble accessing that very funny picfic? I wanted to read it again today, but can’t get to it.
It’s partially restored.
I just checked it. Images 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are up, but the other images are just those empty squares with little red x’s in them.
Maybe she’s working on it.
There’s a poetry fad going around the pirategasm LJ community lately. This terzanelle (see [ulr="http://www.angelfire.com/art/formsofpoetry/agamemmnon’s.sanctuary.frenchforms.terzanelle.html"]here[/'url] for more info on the form) really sparked my imagination. People are homing in more on Will as a character, and that pleases me a great deal; I think the movie’s writers started out very strong with him and then let him slip into a very simple and repetitive role.
It seems the page has moved. The Slashers of the Caribbean can now be found here. And another rec: The Sparrow, the Bitch and the Wardrobe, Jack/Elizabeth goodness.
Typically detest fanfiction (not the idea - I’m trying to think of a good one, meself - but because the vast majority of it is SO terrible*), but LOVE PotC. Conflicting desires, don’tcha know.
I have had computer problems and unable to open any links
( here or anywhere from my pc) for days.
So, day when my computer decides to act right ( thanks to the Massive Colossal East Coast Power Outage™ - Yeah! - maybe I hit Ctril-Atl-Del too much and fried some system, dunno) I am finally able to lurk at Fanfiction.net.
oh.my.god.
It is a whole new world to me. Fun. Light. airy. bad. horrid. runonsentances. Everything that would cause an Engrish teacher to have a stroke. Beats the shit out of an amusement park any day of the week.
But the link provided for the Silence of the Deep…sheeeeit. That is some damn good writing.
And Juniper you just freekin’ rock! I hearby award you *A Nobel Prize For Best Entry in Secret Diary Writing *.
Aw, thanks, Shirl! Just for you…
