My league has backups that you list at each position. they only get inserted if your started did not play at all. In the case of Lynch, the owner’s backup gets inserted. In the case of in-game injuries, you’re out of luck. It’s not that big of a nuisance to do this adjustment. I often think it would be worth a nuisance to also allow replacements for in-game injuries. Say the player gets hurt in 1st Qtr: you should get 3/4 of your listed backup’s points if that’s greater than the injured starter (or you can even ADD the 3/4 result to the starter’s result, which would be a very liberal rule, and would take more admin time–but it makes a lot of sense in that it forces owners to draft more depth). If 2nd quarter, than 1/2 of backup’s points, etc..
This is precisely why I don’t want to get rid of him just yet (and there’s been multiple offers). He can only go up right? And anything I could get is not a great offer.
My pops, who is in my fantasy league, saw the numbers Cam Newton put up over weeks 1 and 2 and picked him up as a FA (what a steal!). Not needing a QB (he has Vick) and wanting a RB, he was able to trade Cam Newton for CJ2K. Seemed like a great trade for him at the time. Well now Cams putting up HUGE numbers for the other guy, and my pops isn’t even playing CJ (what’d he put up last week, like 30 yards?)
Separately, I have my own mini-dilemma/question to ask of you. I picked up Ryan Torain the first time Hightower went down a few weeks ago. Now that he’s out for the season, I’m not sure if Torain is a good starter (this is the bye week for my two best RBs so I have to put someone out there) since I know Shanahan likes to split carries. The other RB I’m thinking about dropping Torain for and getting is Tolbert. I know he’s reliable for a few red zone carries, if nothing else, so I think that Tolbert is the safe bet, and Torain is the one who can give me 2 points or 20 points, depending on what kind of day it is. Any advice for me? I’d greatly appreciate it.
Does anyone know if there’s a way on yahoo to manually reseed the playoffs?
I’ve been thinking for a few years that the seeding system should give more benefit to the top seeds. Sometimes the bottom team in the playoffs is actually a higher scoring team, and/or they’ve got a particularly good matchup that week, and being the top seed is a disadvantage because you have to play the second best team.
I was thinking what might be more interesting is that if the top seed were able to pick his own opponent from the remaining seeds. It gives a reward to the top seed, it makes for an interesting decision/prediction, and could produce some interesting post-game chatter if he picks the wrong guy.
Even if there is a way to do it, that is the kind of thing that needs to be announced before the league starts. Changing the rules mid season is bogus.
Why? What decisions would you make differently? Would you decide to draft a really good team this time instead of a mediocre team because it’s worth getting that top spot?
It’s not a scoring change or something that would change people’s strategy. They’d try to win as many games as possible to be the #1 seed anyway.
I wouldn’t change it without the agreement of the league, but there’s no reason for that to be a pre-season only thing.
It changes the conditions of the contest, and gives some players less advantageous positions than they’d otherwise have had, while favoring others. The top seed gets an easier game, the bottom seed gets an easier game, and the guys in the middle get screwed.
Agreed.
It’s way too early in the season to get a feel for the seeding, so it wouldn’t work to anyone’s particular interest now.
Anyway, as I always do, I’d okay it with the rest of the league, so it’s not like I’d force the change on people. The idea that even though everyone in my leagues might be gung ho and love the idea, that I couldn’t do it because I didn’t propose it in the preseason is silly.
Well, against possibly the worst run defense in the league, and playing from ahead all game, Chris Johnson put up 34 yards.
At this point would it be a mistake to just straight out cut him? Maybe… but it’d feel satisfying at least.
Cam Newton is now the #1 scoring QB (albeit without having his bye yet) - anyone see that one coming?
He has 11 passing touchdowns and 9 picks
(not to mention 7 rushing TDs and just 2 lost fumbles). I do think teams are learning how to defend him, though; he doesn’t have any 300 yard games since doing it three times in the first four weeks. Maybe it would be more accurate to say teams are learning to defend him, since Carolina’s yards per rush have gone from under 2 over the first three weeks to about 4 since.
I wouldn’t take him first next season, though I’d think about it. He’s too dependent on 32-year-old Steve Smith.
What kind of league are you in where Tolbert is a free agent? Roster both of them.
Torain has higher upside - he could average 100 yards and a touchdown per game for the rest of the season - but Tolbert has a higher floor.
Not having watched a lot of Titans games, I’m assuming a bit here, but Matt Hasselbeck’s early season numbers make me think people really are putting 9 in the box to stop Johnson.
I’d still trade for him.
I posted that before this weekend’s game, in which he had 3 td’s, 0 int’s (and two fumbles lost). He had 8 td’s and 9 int’s when I posted that.
Oh. So you did.
Would you trade Beanie Wells and Felix Jones for Matt Forte and Braylon Edwards?
Depends how badly I needed to upgrade at starting running back, and whether my league had a flex spot. Probably.
We have a flex spot, so I can start three rbs. I also have Foster and Sproles though, so I kinda feel like getting rid of two somewhat injury prone backs is worth getting another surefire stud.
I agree. Do eet.
I’d instantly do that trade and then do a fist pump. Forte is a big upgrade to Wells and Jones has a questionable situation.
Week 9 sit/start question:
Brandon Jacobs (who gets the start over Ahmad Bradshaw, who has a broken foot) or Willis McGahee (who is coming off a broken foot of his own).
