Fartin' and burpin' in the MMP! Welcome to the Shortest Month in the MMP!

Morning, mumpers! Today it’s quite bright and shiny outside, much nicer than yesterday. The weather app says “It’s completely average outside in every fucking way” and promises me 6C/43F up to 9C/48F for a mostly cloudy day. The TV is on downstairs running a series of youtube videos of bird/small animal feeders that keeps the cats entertained for a bit. It’s ever so slightly odd sitting here being able to hear birds chirping, but strangely pleasant at the same time.

Nancy/Magic I would have to look at the references for the nicknames since it doesn’t mean anything to me, and I’ll probably end up calling you Nancy Magic or even Magic Nancy instead

Jungian_Camisole welcome, stay a while and enjoy the lunacy here. But make sure you use a coaster otherwise Mooom will be having words with you! Your nickname will arrive in a while too

I emailed the solicitors dealing with mum’s estate again this week, I have emailed a few times over recent months and not heard a peep out of them so I decided to use their generic address rather than the guy who’s been dealing with everything. I got a reply back today from someone different, promising me an update on things. Mum’s estate was pretty straightforward and it’s been over a year now, I would have thought they’d have everything sorted out by now. I am not in need of the money but I’d like to get it finalised as it’s just another thing hanging over us at the moment.

Irk is irksome, might see if I can get a day off soon, I feel the need for a mental health break!

Up early hoping to snag a couple of more reasonable slots for the inlaws to get their shots. So on to deal with that…

Happy Wednesday!

And no luck with Publix. FCD just left for Ocala. His dad is having an MRI tomorrow and they’ve got their shots in Orlando on Firday, so he’s going to take care of driving them where they need to go. If they have to have their second shots in Orlando again, I’ll go with him. There wasn’t time to arrange for me to join him this time… the joy of having pets, yanno.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until seven-fifteen this mornin’! ‘Tis 31 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 56 and N.O.S. for the day. OYKW is makin’ a run to the Pubic Sto’ today for needed provisions. I must needs head over to the church house to take care of church janitor Junior Warden stuff. Sup shall be chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs. Fartfest to follow.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. This will be two days in a row that I must don adult type clothin’. Why must life be so hard!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Nellie, strong text, we live in the same state and understand your frustration. It doesn’t help that newstories appeared of people driving from out of state to get vaccinated here, when we have such a shortage. I am way at the bottom of the list, but don’t have any serious health issues, and I guess I should be grateful for that. Still, I would like to get the vaccine for my grandchildrens’ sakes. My mother, who is in her 80s, with a host of health problems, still hasn’t received her vaccine, the last I heard. It’s very frustrating.

Much to do for work today, but at least I am working from home. I had to make the commute to the office yesterday to take care of some things, and I actually only got to take care of two of those “to-dos” because other stuff interfered.

I have to write a training script today for a presentation tomorrow. I don’t really have time, but I volunteered to present the training, so I’ll keep that promise.

Work on my new fence begins tomorrow. I will be happy when it’s complete, but that means today I need help my husband dismantle our giant dog kennel. It’s six feet tall, fourteen feet long, and eight feet wide. It’s not even used anymore. I just want to recycle the damn thing, but the hubby wants to sell it. I don’t want strangers coming to my house and I don’t want to haggle with people on the price. We’ll see who wins that battle.

Well, I only have a little bit of time left before I start work for the day. Why can’t I be independently wealthy, or at least retired?

Welcome, Jungian_Camisole! I’m so sorry to hear about your job - I’m glad you’re finding something to keep you if not happy at least okay.

Today is cold and sunny again, though I hear we’re supposed to get a buttload of rain tomorrow. But for now, the grass is all sparkly (it’s frost, not vampire residue from one of the vamps in the Twilight series, which my sister recently insisted I read so got that on the brain).

I managed to fit in a solid waddle/run yesterday afternoon during lunchtime yesterday, but I lost track of time so I didn’t have time to shower before a video chat. I managed to stop sweating and get in a normal shirt, but I was probably noticeably damp. Oops.

I need to do laundry but can’t find my zippered mesh bags (for masks and bras) anywhere. Woe is me!

Had a nice video chat with my former I.T. Guy last night. Consensus on both sides is we’re mostly happy with our new lives, but lonely. Still get along great.

If I could wave a magic wand, I’d make him wanna leave and come up north … but that’s silly, wishful thinking.

All in favor of Mr. Taters handling the looky-loos and endless questions and visitors and haggling, say “AYE” or simply nod at your phone/computer.

FCD has turned around and is headed back home. His mom called - they’re making a test run to Orlando to find the vaccine site. If they have problems, they’ll call and we’ll head down together tomorrow - Roxy will have to wait for another museum day.

It’s a very delicate situation with my inlaws - they’re in serious denial about their abilities and FCD doesn’t want to insult them, even tho we’re both terrified of what they think they can do. In fact, they still think they can drive up here to visit us, even tho MIL is virtually blind and FIL often faints and falls asleep because of his low blood pressure, among other things. And they get their feelings hurt so easily, and they’re stubborn. It’s a mega-sucky situation and there’s no easy answer. Until they acknowledge that they need our help, we can’t do much. < headdesk >

On the plus side, 3rd load in the washer, second in the dryer, first hanging in respective closets. And I ordered a ton of pellets that are now ready for pickup - there’s a surprise for FCD!

Magic Nancy has a certain cockney rhyming slang je ne sais quoi about it, in that it looks nothing like Maus_Magill, but if you cross your eyes and squint you can see how you got there.

We keep a large one from Soma on the back of the laundry room door to be used for masks only. It took the boys a couple of weeks to get trained to remove their shoes, deposit their masks, and wash their hands (in that order) when they get home from school.

Fang is driving his brothers, and dropping them off and picking them up at the Middle School. Mrs Magill and I are relieved they are not on the bus.

The county has made all meals free at school, to reduce food insecurity and remove the stigma of free/reduced lunches. The younger two are now taking full advantage and having breakfast here (I don’t allow them to leave without eating.), and second breakfast at school.

Magic Nancy, so your telling us your kids are Hobbits??

FCM, I’ll cross fingers for your in-laws and hope when I get to the stage of having to move to more ‘sensible’ quarters I’ll be less stubborn about it. Take care.

Taters, that’s not a dog kennel, that’s a dog condo. What did you raise, Newfies? And afraid I’m with husband-unit, something like that is worth it to someone, so sell it, hopefully to the first customer so strangers are limited.

boo fae, hope they get the estate finished and are not looking to add stuff to the bill…or perhaps British lawyers are better than US ones…

OK, need to make myself presentable in public and head to the Kroger for a few items, then home for the Sudoku’s and Jumbles solving. All y’all have a good Hump Day.

We thought Tonka had gone blind. He gets around the house as normal, but we were thinking he just knew the route. When I held out a morsel of my dinner, he didn’t see it and had to find it with his nose. Last night I was standing at the counter snacking on a slice of ham, and Tonka was sitting next to me silently begging. I got a morsel in my right hand and bent down to give it to him. In the process, my left hand descended to near my knee. Tonka turned his head toward it before I got his attention to give him the ham. He’s acting as if he can see a bit. Mrs. L.A. says the right eye (with the detached retina) looks better this morning, and not as red. Both eyes are still completely dilated, but it’s not that bright in the house and it’s been raining outside. He’s still eating and urinating and defecating. Abnormal behaviour is that he hasn’t been yowling (much) in the wee hours of the morning.

Eating & using the litter box are good signs. Begging for a treat is a Very Good sign.

My Nikki also silently begs.

Monkey? Not so silent.

He occasionally makes a pathetic, whining 2-syllable howl that really ought to come with a hand held gently to one’s forehead, or perhaps some pearls being clutched.
Sounds remarkably like, “Oh, God!”

Heard most often when I’m cracking open a can of gooshy-food. It takes me AGES (like, five whole seconds!) to scoop it out for them. The most dramatic toddler tantrum has nothing on him, during those interminable moments.

FCD got back home safely, so I made him go with me to pick up a ton of pellets that I’d ordered from Tractor Supply. Our truck was not happy with the load, but we got it home safely and backed it into the garage. Before we could start unloading, his aunt called, so while he talked to her, I moved 1600# (40 bags) from the truck to the designated corner of the garage. When he was done, he drove around to the shop and we put the last 10 bags over by his shop stove. Add to that the 15-20 bags I had moved from the corner to the bigger pile, and I’ve lifted more than a ton today. Go me!

Lunch was assorted leftovers. Then I set up my replacement indoor/outdoor thermometer. But this time, I have the receiver unit mounted on the wall so it won’t get knocked to the floor. Theoretically. I can now check how cold it is outside without venturing forth! Ah, technology.

Roxy will be here in a couple-three hours. That gives me a little time to crochet in peace. All the laundry is done, so I can chill guilt-free.

We’ve given up several times this week, both on calling in the order and on driving though the line. We finally managed to get some by going at a non-lunch/dinner time, in the middle of the afternoon.

HA! No . :frowning:

Me too! At the time, my user name wasn’t Sunny, but the MMP inspired me.

Normally, we’d ask for chocolate and/or beer or coffee. A tribute if you will. No hazing today though. Welcome! Lessee, nickname, nickname. thinking What about “Shrinky”? SlipNSlide? What Lies Beneath (WLB)? I like that one, but it’s long.

If Maus approves, it’s fine with me.

Hell to the yes. I’d like some frozen custard while we’re at it. :sob:

Adult-type clothing? Are you saying that yoga pants are NOT adult-type clothing?! looks for pearls to grasp

My deepest sympathies.

I’m going through something similar right now. FCD needs to have an simple, direct conversation with them. They need help and he can’t keep driving that far. My dad is having increasing issues and he won’t deal with them. We’re having to step in and it sucks sometimes. I sympathize whole-heartedly.

Well, there you have it.

We could do a thread on this too. I had a cat that went blind. She had high blood pressure, which apparently requires a specialist to check in cats. The high BP raised the intraocular pressure and her retinas detached. If Tonka hasn’t been checked for high BP, you should try and arrange that. After that simple meds should control it, if that’s an issue.

As fas as the blindness goes, Sunny (that was her name - she was a lot like Creamsicle kitty) managed just fine, inside the house. Whiskers, light and shadows, scent trails all helped, I think. She got outside once, and was in the middle of the lawn crying. I think unfamiliar territory was too much. On familiar ground, she did just fine.

I am not surprised that Tonka’s got some vision, based on what you’ve said. skritches to the little guy.

Akiko does that too! Mostly when she’s tattling to me about another animal breaking the rules. Moooommmm, Yoshi is in my spot! I think it’s hilarious. I should try to film it.

Nellie I am noodling over the vaccine issue and the visit family issue. I did hear that the government (federal) is partnering with pharmacy chains to increase distribution. They’re still using the state schedules for distribution. I do think that supply and access will increase as we get closer to Spring, hopefully sooner. One thought for you is to email and/or call you state and federal representative every single day. You can say the same thing each time - we can get you a script  . Their offices absolutely track input and even little bit of pressure helps.

BooFae you should definitely take the day off.

Nettie you should take the day off too.

Well, if anyone has made it to the end of my book here, I had my PT assessment yesterday. She said MRI, cane, and rest. She believes it’s a back issue, not a muscle issue. So, we’re back to my dr.

Groceries are to be delivered today. They called and said that they would be here very early, but they are not. It doesn’t matter, however, because we’re here all day…

Diet was mentioned. I have lost 41lbs. I have a ways to go, but it’s definitely encouraging to see the scale go down. Much easier to stick to the plan when I’m actually losing weight!

For dinner I have pork, steak, or shrimp (frozen).

Oooh - last exciting announcement. I’m having the folks who scoop my yard weekly (dogs) do my litter boxes too. It’s a very basic part of cat owning, but I just can’t manage it. I feel very lucky that I have these options, so I can keep my fuzzy buddies.

Happy Wednesday everybody.

That is a LOT. Go you! :dizzy: :tada:

I think we’ve already established that WA state has a very wrong idea of your expendability (if that’s a word).

But, September. September! We’re hoping to get vaccinated in June and then to make plans to be in WA state in September, and are hoping things are getting back to normal. If people who are 65 are still getting vaccinated in September, this is not WA state getting back to normal, no matter when the restaurants open back up. :frowning:

By some miracle we already got our stimulus check. Just have to put it in the mail to deposit it back in the U.S. At least it gets to travel.

Today was another day full of meetings. Not sure when I’m supposed to be productive. So I’m getting further and further behind and getting less and less motivated.

And this talk of biscuits makes me want a biscuit. A proper biscuit, made in Kentucky or further south. Second place would be the rolls from Texas Roadhouse or the cheddar bay biscuits from Red Lobster.

Mr. Swampy, when you make the cheese thangs, do you use self-rising flour? I thought this was something mostly unknown in the U.S. I got the crispy rice cereal and cheddar (bought 3 packages as there are reported shortages). So I’m good to go, but I don’t have self-rising flour, so I thought I’d ask.

The store also had the “Honey Balls” cereal, so I bought some of those. Probably don’t taste much like Honeycomb, but I’ll try them anyway.

Time to settle down for the night. I sleep pretty well for about 5 hours and then wake up and can’t sleep for an hour. I’m getting tired of it.

There’s some sun in the catio. Tonka’s eyes are reacting normally to the light. He seems to be looking around. Fingers crossed.

Sunny: Thanks for the suggestion of BP. I know Mrs. L.A. doesn’t want to traumatize him with a vet visit (she considers him on hospice care), but maybe I can convince her to let me schedule a checkup.

Evenin’ all.

It’s my Friday night, as I’m now off until Sunday - much to the confusion of the agency. Apparently I have to fill out 3 different time sheets, for some ungodly reason. Seems a bit unnecessary to me, but, well, so log as I get paid…

It was reasonably sunny here today most of the day, with one shower at sunset, which caused a red rainbow -not as bright as most of the online pictures, and you could just see some of the other colours faintly, but still pretty funky- which I completely failed to get a photo of as I was driving to the shops at the time.

Shops visited, washing done- tomorrow I think I shall attempt to find somewhere to take a reasonable length walk, though stopping at a country pub midway is, alas, still not an option.

I think I shall go out and try and find a longish walk tomorrow

It’s known and used here, primarily in the south though. I can buy it in my upper Midwest grocery store for special baking. It’s easy to make your own self-rising flour at home though, so you needn’t look very hard for it there. Some biscuits do sound good, don’t they?

I hope you find a lovely one with lots of wild tiny creatures to enjoy watching. And check in here when you get back, in case one of us is about and we can virtually have a cuppa or tip a pint together. Best we can do til your pubs open up. The price is right at least.

My vote is for magic nancy. Fun, rememberable, distinctive, cockney, je ne sais quoi. Almost as perfect as boo
