Move it to Door 2 so we can s.p.a. and sort quicker?
Mrs. L.A. and I took the MG to Drayton Harbor Oyster Company for half a dozen raw oysters, half a dozen grilled oysters, and a couple of Italian-style pilsners.
Tonka’s eye is looking red again.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to …sort? heave? tag?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 28 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 64 and partly N.O.S. for the day. TWPTB say rain is movin’ in overnight. We shall see. Got some laundry that needs launderin’ and that is the big plan for the day. We shall head over to the hog trough Golden Corral around two this afternoon for a late N.O.L./early sup. Thus shall be the day.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Followup question - how do you feel about cleaning up doggie leavin’s on the carpet? ![]()
We have a pug who prefers to do her business on fallen leaves. Last time we had significant snowfall, I had to shovel a path and a pad for her to keep our family room from becoming her toilet. And for a pug, it doesn’t take much snow to be significant!
I like shrink top as a nick. Nothing is coming to me for Paintcharge, tho.
The RoxStar crashed quickly and completely last night. I snuck in to add more covers, since she just wanted one when she went down. That room is chilly, especially when the door is kept closed (to keep the cats out.) Anyway, it’s 10 anna half hours later and she’s still crashed. I got up because I thought I heard her walking about, but I guess it was just noisy cats. So I’ve had time to tend to the pellet stove, do the dishes I ignored last night, tend to the critters, and make some toast. Caffeination is underway. And it’s 25° outside - I love having a working thermometer again.
We’ll leave around 9:30 for the museum - they have a program for toddlers at 10:15 - I’m hoping we can get into it. If not, we’ll look at fish and otters and seahorses and such for an hour or so. Then lunch, nap time, and return her to her parents. So goeth my day!
Happy Thursday!!
{ puts Pretzel back into her tank }
Someone up thread mentioned doggie condo. No, I used to have two dogs, but I had to let my sweet lab go to her final sleep around last Thanksgiving. She was old and in pain. Her heart and appetite were willing to go on, but her poor body just couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t make her comfortable anymore and I felt she was suffering. It broke my heart.
At any rate, when both Brandi and Polar were younger, they were very mischievous and were constantly escaping the yard when we left the house. They would dig under the fence or Polar would literally break fence boards. He was incredibly strong and destructive. So, we bought the giant kennel and lined it with 2X2 pavers and kennel decking. This solved the digging and escape problem.
Polar is old now and doesn’t seem interested in escaping. He sticks to my side always. I don’t know what he’s going to do when I have to start going back to the office full time. He gave us quite a square a week after we had to say good-bye to Brandi, and we still aren’t sure what the issue was. Since then, it’s like he turned into an old dog overnight. And, well, he is old, but up until we lost Brandi you wouldn’t have known it by his behavior. Between losing her and then his big scary health issue, he aged overnight. He is still pretty much off of his feed, so I have to find new and enticing foods for him.
Once the fence is up, we are going to get another dog. He need’s a playmate. He and Brandi were quite the pair and always touching each other. They were protective of each other too.
The fence people will be here at 9:00 am. I will have to make sure the husband is up in case they need to talk to him or he to them. I will be working in my upstairs office, plus I have to present training today. I will be glad when the fence is done. One less thing to think or worry about.
Hubby still wants to sell the kennel, so I told him I would look to see what used kennels are going for and then we could decide if it’s worth all the hassle. I paid around seven hundred bucks for that thing, but we’ve had it more than 10 years now. It’s perfectly serviceable and doesn’t look bad, I just don’t know that it’s worth selling.
Well time to cruise the news.
FIL called this morning admitting that he needs help, so FCD is on his way to FL. I just wish he’d called earlier so I could have arranged to go with him, but I see this as a BIG step.
Roxy slept about 11 hours, and she’s now having some juice and dry cereal, after a tiny bit of toast and milk. We’ll leave in about 30 minutes for the museum, and I hope she runs around a lot and tires herself out. Once my daughter picks her up, I’ll be on my own for a few days. Even if it wasn’t for the plague, I’d still probably just veg at home! I’m so boring…
I had a hard time getting to sleep last night, so I’m dragging this morning. Maybe one more cup of coffee.
I’d like to go to sleep early tonight, but (warning: D&D geekiness ahead) I still have a level of The Undermountain to populate and I still need to figure out how the liberation of Skullport will affect the hobgoblin legions.
No walkies today. The forecast lied- it said it was going to be cloudy but dry, which has now switched to heavy rain most of the day. I could go out in it, but I don’t really want to.
Maybe I should stay in and attempt to get this tiny room full of junk in slightly more sensible order instead.
I doubt he’d do that. He’s very much a dog of habit. (Cinnamon, that’s him in my avatar) In 12 years of going to work with me almost every day he’s pooped at work exactly 6 times. He’s decided that the back yard is where he’s supposed to go.
However, I was feeling a bit bad about him having to shoulder through the snow, so I did go out and make him a trail and a courtyard.
Taters it’s amazing how much dogs care about their best doggie friends. My pup’s best dog friend passed a couple of years ago and he shed a ton over the next few months. He still looks for the friend dog when we go to her owner’s house.
Skritches for Polar from me.
Morning all. The garbage can was taken out to the curb about 7am, so of course the collectors won’t be by until 2-3pm, such is life. Like swampy, rain is forecast for tonight but hopefully no snow, as it’s due to reach double nickle (55F) this afternoon. Outside of dropping off the electric bill, nothing much on tap for today.
Taters, {{{Polar}}}.
BBBoo, I agree, shrink top is the perfect MMP name.
Mooooommm, enjoy the fishies and otters…
OK, need to check my weekly list for what’s on for sustenance today and get it ready. All y’all take care.
So thanks to idjit running the red light on the way to work, I know my ABS works, and will engage at 35mph.
But my new job title is “Transport container specialist”*
When Gordie’s BFF died, Gordie got all his toys. Gordie spend a whole day just sniffing them.
*I stuff a bunch of empty bags in another bag, heave it onto the conveyor, and then at end of shift, I heave the bags of bags into an empty trailer.
I hate public speaking with a rare and consuming passion. I tend not to eat for hours beforehand and my hands get cold and clammy, so I’m still coming down 'cause I had two presentations in the same meeting. And now I get to go to some scary reorg discussion that I’d rather not have b/c it’s scary. At least I’m assuming it’s about reorg given that it was originally scheduled for 7 a.m. Even when it’s nothing special, reorgs are scary.
Anyway, I’m gonna have to knit myself some fingerless mitts. My hands are frikkin’ freezing, Mr. Bigglesworth.
It’s rainy and cold and grey here. Hopefully I’ll manage a decent waddle this afternoon and something incredibly delicious for lunch. I made some dahl makhini (creamy tomatoey lentils) last night but I’m saving it for dinner since it gets tastier while the lentils sit in their juices.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s very wet and wild out there, the weather app says “Your day will be fucking filled with fuckpuddles” and promises me 7C/45F up to 8C/46F, mostly cloudy with light rain. Light? There’s nothing light about what’s going on out there!
Mooom good to hear that the in-laws are finally realising they need help. I hope it’s the first step on a very good road for them (and for you).
Taters sending scritches to Polar. I remember taking Ophelia to the cattery not long after we’d lost Orly - when I went to collect her again she was so eager to go home and be with her people, made me feel really guilty for leaving her while we were away. Of course, very soon afterwards, Shadow came along needing a home, so all was well with the world again.
I’ve had a reply from a new solicitor at the company dealing with mum’s estate, she sounds like she might push things on a bit, and is at least taking an interest. Mum’s affairs were very straightforward so no idea what the hold-up is. metal mouse it should be simply a case of them deducting a flat percentage from the value of the estate to cover the fees, we still have to pay it before they will release funds so no point worrying about it.
Irk has been irksome today, went to a training session this afternoon that promises us another level of work, something else that can go wrong, and a process that we need to work out to make sure everyone can stick to it without making a complete dog’s breakfast of it. I am so glad I have tomorrow off!
We had about 80 minutes at the museum, which is more than our usual hour by, < calculating > 20 minutes!
Roxy didn’t want to leave but after going thru the entire place 3 times (it’s a small facility) I’d had enough. Plus there was a docent there who wanted to tell me all about his area. Had I been alone, it would have been interesting, but Roxy didn’t care about the days when steamboats plied the Chesapeake Bay.
She’s been fed and she’s down for a nap - I’m hoping for a significant sleep, but anything over an hour works. I’ve refilled the pellet stove in FCD’s shop - he keeps it on the lowest setting to prevent things from freezing out there. It maintains the shop in the low 60s - he can fired it up more when we works out there.
Speaking of whom, he called from not quit halfway thru NC after being detoured for about 45 minutes, probably for an accident, but he’s not sure. Anyway, that’s going to put him into Ocala later then originally planned, but with luck, it’ll still be before 10 tonight.
And that’s where things stand now. I think I’ll do a little crocheting while it’s quiet.
I have some ideas about paintcharge nicknames, but it embarrasses me to admit I don’t really understand how MMP nicknaming works . Do we have some say in our nicknames after all? I remember reading that we don’t, and then finding out recently that poor Midget hated her nickname kind of cemented that notion.
Or maybe we have say in our nicknames, but only at the very beginning?? That’d explain the nellie/nettie confusion: maybe I didn’t speak up soon enough, and the nellie nickname had already stuck? I’m fine with nellie, BTW, but there has been confusion, and nettie was here first.
Thanks for bearing with me.
My only plan for today is walking. It’s a typical cloudy day, a little wet around the edges, and that’s fine for a long walk.
Taters, it’s so sad when a dog grieves. Big hugs to Polar.
wordy, glad you got through the two presentations. “Reorg” sounds like a monster in a horror movie. (“Better not go out there, Harry. I hear Reorg’s about.”) I hope the reality turns out to be way less scary.
doggio, stuffing and heaving is what gets people sent to the eating disorders clinic.
Anyone can suggest nicknames, except you can’t suggest your own. You can declare your dislike for what you’re called and we can figure out another, but you can’t come in and say “Call me BigFoot!” It’s all in good fun, and we certainly don’t want to insult or upset anyone with our reindeer games. So that pretty much sums up nicknames.
OK, now I’m going to crochet for sure.
Taters when we got rid of our dog kennel, I used Craigslist. A brief listing with some quick pics from my cell phone, and it was gone shortly after. You can list things as free if you just want it gone. Someone will just come get it, which is lovely. Less work for me!
I think your name should be Wizard.
Doggio I’m glad your brakes work as designed. Unfortunately the world is full of idjits. May I ask how you earn the new title?
Talky I’m with you. Reorgs are stressful and scary. At my company, they were usually a cop out on actually fixing anything. They just reshuffled and pretended that would solve things.
I went with my mom to take her cat to the vet yesterday. His kidneys had shut down. She was quite upset, so she cuddled him and gave him skritches, and then waited outside. I held him while he went to sleep. Poor guy. He was a beautiful Siamese that someone left behind when they moved out in her neighborhood. Spyda never met anyone he didn’t like, and played with dogs like he was one himself. He was an awesome cat and will be missed.
I made penne pasta with peas and a cream sauce, and thin cut beef with chimicurri (spelling?). It was surprisingly easy and very yummy. Tonight I might do pork chops…
Happy Friday’s Eve ![]()
ETA:
Nellie & Group - should we pick a different nickname to avoid Nellie and Nettie confusion?
Re: The Being Formerly Known As Midget, we should pick a new name for her. Any thoughts?
