Mushrooms, onions, and … hmm spinach? tomatoes? or Italian sausage? Decisions, decisions

None of the pizzas in this thread sound bad.

The sweet-spicy-savory of pineapple, jalapeno & cured pork (pepperoni, ham, Canadian bacon, etc) is also pretty appealing. I also love anchovies so those are in the running, though it’s not too easy to find someone to share it with. American bacon can be kind of smoky which I find doesn’t pair well with standard red & mozzarella pizza.

Mostly agreement here, I also don’t approve of multiple meats on pizza and never chicken or ground beef, too bland to stand up to the other flavors. I also think a combo (Italian beef & sausage sandwich, mentioned elsewhere upthread) is a bit much and I said as much a few weeks ago in a sandwich thread. The full local classic of sausage, mushroom, onion & green pepper is pushing it; it’s a bit busy unless coming from the right kitchen.

You’ve recommended Italian beef and giardiniera pizza before but I still haven’t tried it. I seldom get pizza for myself, mostly relying on the stuff we order in at work. Even if I was at a place known for it, it would sure be hard to pass up good ol’ Italian sausage.

If you ever find yourself at 84th and Pulaski, Vito & Nick’s has perhaps the best example of the style. I was very much skeptical at first, but now a standard order for us includes one “special” and one beef & giard pizza (or half-and-half on one pizza.) That’s the only place I regularly order it – other versions I’ve had have been so-so. And for an all-sausage pizza, nothing beats Villa Nova in Stickney for me.

I as well mostly prefer a high ratio of veggies to meat on a pizza but if its a kitchen sink combination multiple meats are fine. Chicken can be good on a white pizza, but on a marinara one, I agree no way.

If ever find my self in Chicago I’ll definitely have to try the Italian beef.

Ok maybe black olives instead. Depends on whether or not I can stomach italian sausage that third day. If not, olives for me.
