Favorite commercials (and why)

My current favorite is the one for Gas-X, with the guy interviewing for a job.

“I see you’re flatulent in three languages and you graduated at the top of your gas.”
“Your son, Rip, is on line toot.”

an older commercial but always one of my favs. With the distant camera view I didn’t realize the bear wasn’t real until he feinted and did the spin kick.

The Mountain Dew “Surprising Facts” series has won my heart. And I despise Mountain Dew.

Yo-Yos Invented as Weapons

Lightning

I love the Nintendo pinata commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnNTee5McHw

Remember the fast-talking FedEx guy?

AAARRGGHHH GET THAT SONG OUTTA MY HEAD!!!

Ahem…probably my favorite commercial from the past while was a Christmas ad this past season for some new cell phone. There’s a gingerbread man up on a ladder, caulking up the bite-shaped hole in the roof of his gingerbread house with frosting. His gingerbread son comes up:

Son: “Hey, dad, I wanna [new cell phone] for Christmas!”
Dad: “Yeah, well I want people to stop eating my house, but that’s not gonna happen!”

The Go Phone commercial

There’s a third one of these (the only one I’ve seen): In New York City, it is illegal to stage a public puppet show.

John Moschita, Jr. also provided his signature fast-talking in ads for Micro Machines. He parodied himself in an amusing Robot Chicken sketch where he does a Micro Machines spot while complaining about how his wife is cheating on him in his fast-paced voice.

Amusing, but, as it says, not a real commercial. The copyright date is 2003, but the logo used is that of the N64, which was discontinued in 2001. Not only that, one of the Ns in said logo is backwards.

PBS has a series of commercials that end with the tag, “Be More ( creative, adventurous, curious, whatever).” My favorites are the one where the little girl uses a spotlight to mess with a rooster, and the one where this middle-aged guy gets all these photos of himself grimacing and makes them into an animation of himself singing opera.

ESPN always seems to have some funny ones. Or at least did.
I like the one where the Mascot bird makes some crack at some athlete in an airport or gym or something. The athlete swings around with his gym bag and smacks the bird in the face.
Cool stuff.

One of my favourites is Your Brain on Heroin, a seriously over-the-top anti-drug spot. Penn and Teller did a parody as part of their TV show.

Both of them by Errol Morris.

Light (that’s the rooster one)

Photobooth

Both are quicktime movies.

This is another one parodied on Robot Chicken, again by the original performer- in this case Rachel Leigh Cook. Of course, this was inspired by the simple “This is your brain on drugs” ad featuring an egg in a frying pan. And that reminds me of Kids WB’s parody of said ad:

[Shot of the Brain from Pinky and the Brain]This is the Brain.
[Shot of the Brain standing on top of Bugs Bunny]This is the Brain on Bugs.
Any questions?

These are all great.

There is another similar one by Sprite I love. It shows all of these nature-loving people, talking about a drink, how healthy it is, all natural, and the announcer says “And it tastes like…” just as someone goes to take a drink. And it’s vile, the guy makes a horrible face. It’s a great setup with a nice twist ending. I can’t find it though.

Is that Robin Williams under the crepe paper??

Funny Windex commercial:

Dr Pepper
says it all

ps Cooper does say “School’s out for summer” and “school’s out forever” he also says “out for summer out til fall we might not go back at all”. The meaning behind the phrase ‘School’s Out’ means to ‘wise up’ so by him telling the girl that school wasnt over meant she had some more to learn.
why, yes, I am not worthy! (Cooper is my idol)

Probably about Sausage! (Bud Light commercial.) I know my dogs always have food on their minds.

It’s a Stroh’s commercial. AKA Motor City Mouthwash. Here ya go.

Here’s one of my all time favorites, which adapts the novel “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley.

“Dear Bic: You’re probably not going to believe this, but…”

I also love the Pepsi commercial with Justin Timberlake. Here’s the full length 2 minute commercial . It’s much more hilarious than the one they show on TV.

TLC had some great ones for “Life Lessons.”

E.g. “Dating is hard…but so is becoming the crazy cat lady.”

or

“Merlot and e-mail don’t mix.”

I don’t know if they still offer them for sale, but you could also customize the skin tone on the figurine to match the person you were buying it for.
