Sniffer of brandy
Stout beer
Cordial glass of Bailey’s
None of those mixed concoctions, other than a pina colada/margarita every now and again. Im pretty simple when it comes to alcohol, nothing too sweet, it sets off my bloodsugar and I feel like crap later that night and in the morning.
oooOOoooh I’m ex-drinks trade so this is one of my favourite topics!
These are some of my current cocktails/drinks I’ve tasted and loved.
Andean Rouser - aka The Peruvian Classic Pisco Sour
2 measures of Pisco
1 measure of sugar
1 measure of fresh lime juice
handful of crushed ice
blend for 30 seconds, and decant
add a drop of Angostura bitter on top
The Bakewell Punch
35ml Wray and Nephew Over proof rum
35ml fresh pink grapefruit juice
10ml cane syrup
10ml orgeat syrup
1 lime wedge (squeezed tightly and dropped into shaker)
5 raspberries
and of course a well made daiquiri is a ‘spiritual’ experience (NO sour mix!)
and mojitos
and caipirinhas
and Campbells Rutherglen Muscat
and a nice Sauterne
and Boschendal Blanc de Noir
and Laurent Perrier Rose…
and you can’t beat a nice cold pint of lager, or a Pimms & lemonade on a sunny day…
Same here. I hate beer. It was terrible when I was in Scotland, because I’d end up spending so much more than my friends on any given night. Cocktails tend to be quite expensive.
Maybe the Riesling you’re trying to remember is Blue Nun? I love rieslings myself.
I can’t drink beer, either. Tried a hundred times to “acquire” a taste for it. It’s just a wrong beverage.
Rum ‘n’ coke, margarita (with salt) or white wine. That’s pretty much all I drink. I’ll do the occasional Bloody Mary, but only once every decade or so.
I had a caucasian last night. I have a brand-new all-time favorite, though, that I just discovered last month.
Dark & Stormy
Fill a large rocks glass with Ice
2 oz. Gosling’s Black Seal Rum
Fill with Ginger Beer (If you can get Barritts Ginger Beer, get it; otherwise get the “spiciest” you can find)
Lemon Wedge
Dark&Stormy is a favourite of mine too, as a variation on a theme, why not try it with a big squeeze of fresh lime, and ‘rim’ the glass (take a 1/4 of lime and rub it round the inside of the glass). Lime is just cracking with rum.
Rum (none of that white stuff) and coke
Black russian
Port wine.
I can’t have beer and I don’t drink much so I’ll be following this thread for suggestions.
Beer, preferably Guinness, but on a really hot summer day spent fishing, any ice cold beer will do. I’ll even drink Old Style Light.
Booze has to be a three way tie between Irish whisky (neat), a Canadian Club Manhattan (mixed at a 1-1 ratio between the whiskey and the vermouth please, no cherry, no bitters, 3 ice cubes served in a rocks glass.) and tequila (neat or margaritas on the rocks, no alcohol slurpees for me.)
The place around the corner from my house serves Waterloo Dark. It’s one of the few beers they have on tap, so I’ve got it a couple of times. It’s not bad at all.
Since you’re in Ontario, have you ever tried any of the Wellington brews (including the dark)? They’re pretty nice, too.
