Favorite drinks? (alcoholic)

Nope, definitely not Blue Nun, though I’ve seen that in the store a lot. I just asked my boyfriend, who has a bottle in his fridge. He says it is:
“Schmitt Sohne”

White Russian
Rum and Coke
Baileys - rocks
Wine

Those are probably all the alcoholic beverages I’ll need, ever.

I really like bourbon neat (Knob Creek and Booker’s are particular favorites), as well as simple bourbon- and other whiskey-based drinks, like Manhattans and Old-Fashioneds. Nothing terribly sweet, though.

In the last five years or so, I’ve become a huge fan of single malt Scotch - and I like all of the different regional variations, from Islay to Lowlands to Highlands. My favorite really depends on my mood and the occasion; if I had to choose one right now, it would be Highland Park, but that could change any day. I had a Clynelish 14-year-old at a tasting last weekend that was outstanding.

I’ve also been known to enjoy a lot of beer, and I have no standards – right now, my beer refrigerator has Guinness, Blatz, Moose Drool and Bud Light. All have their place and time.

For mixed drinks: one part vodka to two parts peach schnopps, shaken up with a lot of ice in my nalgene

For straight from the bottle drinks: Woodchuck, draft cider

For shots: tequila with salt and lime

I don’t like sweet alcohol, so my favorites tend to be dry and neat.

I love, love, love a Hendrick’s martini with gorgonzola-stuffed olives. That’s the pinnacle.

I’ve also been getting into whiskey lately, especially Booker’s and Maker’s Mark. Yum.

Oh man. I didn’t think it could get any better. I will make it my life’s goal to have a martini this way.

It’s only recently that I’ve found my favorite drink- Diet Coke with Malibu Rum.

Damn, that’s tasty.

I ain’t lyin’: it’s the pinnacle. You will [heart] it.

Beadalin if you like Maker’s Mark, try Woodford Reserve. All I can say is it’s a good thing I discovered it after I finished college or I’d still be in my parents’ basement.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll be sure to check it out.

My favorite drink is Black Bush, neat. Jameson 1780 and Redbreast are also excellent. Midleton Very Rare is extremely…excellent. It is not, however, a liquor for everyday consumption, unless you are also in the habit of lighting your cigars with pages torn out of a Gutenburg Bible.

Glenmorangie Maderia Cask, again neat. I’m not a big fan of Scotch whiskeys but this stuff is in a class all its own. A single drop of spring water is the only thing you should dare add to this remarkable nectar, or those above.

Plymouth martini sans olive. Beefeater is an acceptible alternative.

On a warm evening, a gimlet is quite fine. Given the piquancy of the sweetened lime juice (preferably fresh), all but the most vile of vodkas are acceptible.

I’m a man of simple tastes; when I see people ordering exotic or blended drinks, I shudder in sympathy for the barstaff.

[total hijack]Opal, I tried to email you several months ago in regards to your weight loss surgery; I tried to make the subject line such that you wouldn’t delete, but you never answered. Would you mind dropping me an email sometime? Thanks.[/th]

To address the actual question: Buttery Nipples are yummy! I also like a nice shot of Wilderberry or Bluesberry Schnapps right alongside a bottle of nice dark beer. The sweet and bitter balance one another so well!

Looks like my tastes run just the polar opposite of Opal’s. I don’t care for sweet drinks (with the exception of a margarita if I’m outside in the sunshine). Me, I prefer:

Whiskey neat (especially bourbon, but a good single malt Scotch or an Irish whiskey can be very pleasant)
Full-bodied red wine
Thick, dark beer – Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout, fer instance
Martini – vodka or gin

I like rum best.
Cuba Libres (ideally made with Havana Club 7 year old Anejo ), Daiquiris, Mojitos, Mai Tais-I love them all. I have a special fondness for Morgan’s Spiced and Bundaberg- even though they’re not the best quality, they have special memories for me.

Gin and Tonics, Martinis, Cider and Pimm’s are my summer drinks.
Hot whiskey with cloves and lemon or hot Brandy with ginger are my winter drinks. Wine and beer are good all year round. Guinness is what I drink when watching rugby in the pub, it’s my patriotic pint I can nurse for 80minutes.

As a special treat I might have a White Russian or a Black Russian with a Guinness head, but that’s on average about once or twice a year.

My usual drink in a bar is a dark rum and coke or a glass of white wine.

Boy am I glad to be moving back to Northern Ireland- the drinks are much cheaper than Dublin, so I’ll actually be able to afford cocktails in a bar!

My favorites:
-Beer is superb, especially draft beer from two local breweries. Happily, the best pizza in town also comes from the best brewery in town, AND they have a 2-dollar second-run movie theater with dinner tables. Life is fine on movie night.
-I drink cheap wine, but not too cheap. Mostly red.
-Vodka gimlets have long been my drink of choice, having replaced whiskey sours.
-My favorite homemade drink is the Passamoquaddy Punch:
1 shot light rum (I like Cruzon’s; it’s really tasty straight, and it imparts its slight vanilla aroma to the drink)
Cranberry juice to fill half the glass (we use an all-fruit-juice version, which is slightly more expensive and significantly less sweet than the cornsyrup cocktail version).
A good several shakes of Angostura bitters on top
Fill the glass with seltzer.

The flavors work very well together. Mmmm.
