G&T was made for the tropics.
Damn, I love those! Can’t drink grapefruit juice anymore because it interferes with a medication…
You might like the Hemingway daiquiri (Papa Doble) then
1.5 oz light rum
3/4 oz lime juice
1/2 oz grapefruit juice
1/4 oz maraschino liqueur (I go light on it - 1 tsp)
1 tsp sugar
After having tended bar in a college town in my youth, the very smell of most mixers just about gags me. Therefore, I tend to operate on the KISS principal when it comes to hard liquor.
My current favorite winter drink is Buffalo Trace or Pappy VanWinkle with a splash of water. Summers, I go for Tanqueray and Tonic tall with two wedges of lime.
Once in a while, when the mood strikes for something a bit sweet, a shot of Rumplemintz in a cup of hot chocolate hits the spot. Summers, the sweet tooth is satisfied with a shot of amaretto or Rumplemintz in a tall glass of unsweetened iced tea (the liqueur adds all of the sweetening needed).
I like Bourbon (Jim Beam or Wild Turkey, in that order of preference) neat or on the rocks.
I also like Old Fashioneds (Bourbon or Southern Comfort) and I like them made correctly with the fruit mashed on the bottom, the booze measured, and made with bitters NOT mix. Any bartender that uses mix is a freaking hack and gets no tip!
Uh…I’m a guy.
pkbites, you rule. Old fashioneds are indeed the bomb, but up here I have to order them as follows: “Bourbon old fashioned, please.” Else I get them made with brandy, which is no good. Stupid Wisconsinites, screwing up my old fashioneds with their love of brandy.
There’s a place downtown that makes excellent old fashioneds, all with the muddling and the bitters and the yum. Divine.
