In Nebraska, there’s a chain called Runza. They’ve changed their marketing and names of stuff, but it’s still the same stuff. A “runza”, now known as an OvenStuff’d (or OverStuff’d, lousy font) Sandwich, is basically beef, cabbage and spices baked inside bread. Very tasty stuff. 'Specially their variations.
The Swiss & Mushroom Runza is killer. Their fries also kick ass. They still use “crinkle” fries.
Also tough to beat is a Burger King bacon double cheeseburger.
I like the Southern fast food places - Sonic, Whataburger, Chick-Fil-A, and Checkers. Sonic has breakfast all day now and the bacon in their Bacon Toaster Sandwiches (and their bacon cheeseburgers) actually tastes like real bacon! Whenever I get a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger at Wendy’s, I’m invariably sickened by the bacon. It’s limp, cold, and almost looks raw. Always. And most of the Wendy’s restaurants around here give you cold, cold fries and never fill the damn container up to the top. (Hint: if no fries have fallen out of the container to the bottom of the bag, IT’S NOT FULL ENOUGH!)
Chick-Fil-A, KFC, and Popeyes are they only places with chicken that actually tastes good. Chicken sandwiches and nuggets from McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Burger King are often downright nasty. Burger King seems to be the worst of the lot. Their 99-cent chicken fingers are gross. They give me bad school cafeteria flashbacks. Chick-Fil-A nuggets, OTOH, were sent straight from the gods.
The Jack in the Box Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger…
best fastfood burger, hands down.
KFC Popcorn chicken. Completely nutrition free. But deep fried and good.
McDonald’s fries.
Locally - Dick’s of course.
Anything from Nick’s Roast Beef. Arby’s makes me cry in dispair. To claim that crap to be “roast beef” is just horrifying, and an insult to all of the TRUE Massachusetts roast beef houses that inspired it.
Don’t know or care if this counts, but the Egg McMuffin is the best single fast food item ever invented, bar none…
hrh
I like the chicken sandwich at a place in the local mall whose name I don’t remember. I think Jack in the Box also has a good chicken sandwich though it’s been a while since I tried it. I don’t mind burgers but I prefer a well-made chicken sandwich.
KFC: Crispy Strips or Popcorn Chicken make me a happy puppy!
Popeye’s: Whatever their chicken sandwich is, and fries. Man, if there were a Popeye’s by me, I’d be ballooning.
Taco Bell: Chicken quesadillas are yummy…mmmm…
And I dunno if Dunkin’ Donuts counts, but I don’t care. Love me an untoasted plain bagel, heavy on the veggie cream cheese. Oh, and I’m addicted to Dunakccinos. Sad, yet true.
Taco Bell: Mexican Pizza with no meat (who are we kidding about it being “meat” anyway?), chicken soft tacos
Wendys: Bacon & cheese potato
Burger King: Chicken fingers (or whatever they call them)
Chick-fil-a: Waffle fries!!! Also the chicken nuggets are pretty good with polynesian sauce.
Coming from a person whose very large male cat is named “Big Mac” but who hardly ever calls him anything but “Biggie Fries” -
I love Wendy’s and have always loved Wendy’s. And especially their new salads (although I wish there fat-free french didn’t taste like pure corn syrup).
My son likes more variety than me, though, so even though Wendy’s is also his favorite, we occasionally hit the other spots, too. When we’re at McD’s I get the fish filet, and when we’re at JItB I usually get the Sourdough Jack (but they always give me heartburn). Arby’s is quite good, too, but they’re a little far off to get to regularly.
My favorite Wendy’s salad is the BLT, also. Great for lunch or dinner, and still less than $5.00 with a Biggie Diet Coke. And it’s a big salad, not like those little jokes McD’s has been trying to foist on us for the past couple of decades.
Sonic: Delicious burgers, chicken strips, chili cheese fries, coneys, corn dogs, toasters, wraps, slushes, shakes, sundaes, and fountain drinks with added flavors!!! What’s not to like? And it’s all drive-thru, with hardly any waiting. I think I go to the nearest Sonic about every other day, often just to buy myself caffeine-filled Diet Cokes with a shot of vanilla.
Arby’s: Curly fries…golden, crunchy curly fries…
I’m hungry now, but I don’t think Sonic’s open still
I just tried the new Arby’s Italian beef and mozzarella sandwich tonight.
It was absolutely fantastic. I let my hubby take a bite, and he was very disappointed he hadn’t ordered one. I hope it’s not one of those “limited time” things.
I also like a Subway meatball sub on their Parmesan/Oregano bread.
Oh, I love the Burger King Chicken Sandwiches!! Sometimes they put too much mayo on it, but I just scrape that off with a burnt french fry. I saw that it ranked as one of the worst-for-you fast food products out there, but that just made me love it even more.
I’ve really moved away from McD’s for anything but breakfast, their fries are a pale imitation of what they used to be and the burgers are tasteless and usually squishy.
But breakfast still rules there, the biscuits are great and I can’t get enough of the hashbrowns, especially if they are just a few seconds overcooked and super crunchy.
I will put in a vote for the Long John Silver’s basket of crunchies!!! I probably haven’t eaten there in over 5 years, but getting that extra basked of crunchies with whatever grease-laden meal you want was always heaven.
Combo #4.
Hardee’s Biscuits and Gravy. They have the best biscuits but their burgers stink.
McDonalds Sausage Egg McMuffin, I don’t like the spam er I mean canadian bacon on the original mcmuffin.
I like McDonald’s hashbrowns too.
I used to like Fries. But I can’t stand them anymore.
