Tombstone, Red Baron, and McCain’s are all good. Irresistables brand (sold at Food Basics and Metro in Ontario) is okay too.
I’ve never seen Tombstone in Ontario; Red Baron you can buy at Wal-Mart.

The occasional DiGiornos or Freschtta is ok, but the President’s Choice store brand that our markets bring down from Canada is my favourite. It has to be the rising crust one.
Unfortunately the grocery only carries the PC pizzas when they can get a deal and put it on sale. They are available maybe one week every two or three months. Same price that they mark down the DiGiorno or Freschetta to on special.
I would kill for a Home Run Inn plum tomato pizza. They have the best frozen pizza over all, no doubt, but that one is the best and completely unique, AFAIK. Can’t find them in California, though.
From Costco, I think the brand is “Palermo’s?” Very good. Not cheap greasy meat like a lot of other frozen pizzas.
But
Party Pizzas rule.
Aldi sells take-and-bake refrigerated pizzas that are really good, and really cheap.
Do they count if they’re only refrigerated, not frozen?
I was going to pimp Aldi’s as well, but I assumed that they didn’t count.
However, you CAN freeze them, after which they would be the be my favorite frozen storebought pizza.
I usually opt for the thin crust types of store bought frozen or fresh refrigerated pizzas. That said, Freschetta Brick Oven and Amy’s are my preferences for frozen, and any store brand for fresh refrigerated. More often than not, I’ll add my own ingredients that I happen to have at home, like leftover ham, salami, sausage, peppers, mozzarella, herbs. To be honest, once I’ve ‘jeujed’ it up, I prefer store bought to delivery pizza by any national chain (Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Xtreme, etc…).
Are you kidding? Where I am it’s $1.25 and it is indeed awesome!
I really like the greasy, so-crispy-you-cut-your-mouth types, like Tombstone and Jacks.
That’s what we do. I buy three or four at a time and throw 'em in the big freezer in the garage.
Totino’s is great. About $1.30 here, sometimes they’re on sale for $1 and I stock up.
The very best I’ve found is DiGiorno’s Garlic Bread Crust. But then, I think the crust is the best part of the pizza.
Y’all are killing me I’d love to get some frozen pizza that cheap for the days I’d like nothing better for the “must eat or the body falls over and dies” moments. I love a well made made balanced dinner but would overall be happy with a Willy Wonka piece of gum that fed me as long as it didn’t turn me into a giant blueberry.
My local supermarket (Tops) has a 3 cheese rising crust for $4.99 that I sprinkle some oregeno on. Better than a Tombstone I’ll buy on sale.
Oh yeah the pizza stone I have makes a difference. Cheap crap is better and decent stuff is good. I eat a lot more frozen pizza because of the pizza stone.
Cheap: Totino’s
Cheap and snack-sized: Celeste (though Totino’s is steadily shrinking down to this size)
Full-size, made with “real” ingredients: I really like the Shopper’s Food store brand, Culinary Circle. At least a couple of bucks cheaper than Digiorno or Freschetta, and just as good IMO.
Oh, god. I never feel good about myself afterwards. It isn’t really “pizza” to me. It has an ingredient list that barely fits on the box. But sometimes I just have to have one of those Totino’s pizzas with the cube pepperoni.
(I had never in my life had heartburn until I ate one of those sumbitches while 30 weeks pregnant at 9 PM.)
I don’t care for Totino’s pizza, but I do like their Pizza Rolls.
You’ll like them more if you fill them with easy cheese.
With two teenage boys we go through a lot of pizza in our house. They kind of fall into different categories.
Totino’s… the White Castles of pizza. Sometimes you just have to have one.
French Bread Pizza… great for lunch if you only want one. I go back and forth between Stoufer’s and Red Baron. The quality seems to fluctuate.
Then we get to the pizza that we would actually have for a dinner sometimes (although it is more often carry out).
Home Run… a really good thin crust.
Food Club Rising Crust… the store brand in our market. It is cheaper than the name brands, and better in my opinion.
California Pizza Kitchen… if it is just me and my wife. BBQ Chicken or Margarita sometimes hits the spot.
Try using a cast-iron skillet sprayed with olive oil sometime. Also works well!
Great reviews-- thanks so much!
