VunderLair Mk. I is no more. VWife and I just signed and notarized the deed-in-lieu paperwork, and it has been FedExed to the bank’s lawyers.
Og damn, I’m glad it’s over with.

After 25 years of [del]hell[/del]wedded bliss, I fear all of the above.
Swampy, does this mean you’ll be dragging the capri pants and sparkly boobtube out of the wardrobe again? I’m sure you said it was essential wedding wear.
VBob…errr…yay?!
I am off to Fat Club in a while, time to face up to what a week in New York and a couple of first class flights can do to a body. I fully expect the scales to say “no coach parties, thank you” when they see me coming in.
I’ve washed a load of towels and 2 loads of jeans. The second load of jeans is in the dryer. I ran to the store for french bread for the onion soup. And that’s pretty much been my day. I’m such a slug.
Off to slice and saute onions for the soup…
Goodness, we’re quiet today…
Soup is simmering and **FCD **is on his way home. When he gets here, I’ll slice the french bread, broil it with provolone, and float it on a bowl of the soup. It smells good - it should taste good, too. I hope.
Hooray Bobbio! I long for the day when I can say I no longer have a ball and chain in Pirateville. (At this point, I’d just settle for the tax forms so I can get my taxes done.)
{{{{to anyone that needs them}}}}}
the only thing I have to add is my .sig, so…
Oh, now I remember what I wanted to post on here! This is the National Geographic Picture of the Day on my iGoogle page: Baby elephant!
Howdy Y’all! Feelin’ ick but did make pepper steak, rice and sallit for dindin. Dang sinus infection. I also feel like I have a little bit of fever. BAH!
BooFae of course, along with the gold lame high heeled sandals.
That’s all I got for now. Gonna go take nighttime knockout stuff, lie on the bed and watch teevee til the drowsy overcomes me.
Nitey Nite Y’all!
Worked, came home, am watching hockey.
I’m just crazy busy at work and dead tired when I come home.
I’m still fighting off the cold my husband so “generously” shared with me and have had a headache all damn day.
I’ve got to figure out what I’m preparing for dinner. I have leftovers in the fridge, but we ate that stuff Saturday and Sunday, and had pizza yesterday. I’m not sure my husband would want to eat the leftovers again.
Sock?
Guess I should turn this machine off before going to bed. Incidentally, the onion soup was mega-yum. From now on when I make a slow-cooker pot roast, I’ll save the broth for onion soup. It was so rich!!!
Time for nighty-nights… *** MWAH!!!***
Guess most folks would start a new thread somewhere but since 90% of the Dopers I know are in this one ------ My mother-in-law, Mary Lou, has passed away today. In some ways it has been two years coming and a total surprise at the same time. She was a second mother to me and words can’t express the sadness I feel at this moment. We’ve been through a lot together, from the death of her son (Augie) on, and we made a good team. As her body failed her she didn’t always remember just who I was but as she told the nurses “he’s the one who always fixes things better for me”. Now our Savior has my roll and has made her whole again in the room she was promised; with Popsi and Augie to greet her.
A couple quick Muvver stories. If you didn’t know, the Muvver name came from Augie who had speech problem when he was young. During one family trip along the turnpike, Muvver wanted the kids to see something off in a farm field. They couldn’t spot what she wanted them to at first so she said “Over there by those cows or ducks or something”. Well, Augie and Mary-Frances being who they were, they decided that Muvver didn’t know the difference between a cow and a duck. This led to 50 years of “educational materials” - various little things showing cows and ducks. For one Christmas Mary got her a plush cow and duck. Surprisingly enough, after some corrective surgery on Mary’s part, the cow would quack when you squeezed it and the duck would moo. Never were two simple supermarket toys more treasured than Muvver treasured her cow and duck.
The other Muvver story is her age. Even back when I first met Mary Frances, Muvver was “old”. When a telemarketer would call the person answering would hold their hand over the phone and say “Muvver? It’s Carnegie Museum - they need to ask you what color to paint their dinosaurs”. When a particularly good Old Testament reading was read, we would always check the details with her. Not only was she older than rock & roll, she was older than most rocks! And she laughed at it all as hard as we would.
A couple years ago, the arteries of her brain started to harden and one by one things were lost. Memories of Popsi, us - even memories of her countless ages and cows and ducks. But her natural humor that made all that funny remained, virtually to the end. Always ready with a witty reply, a stuck-out tongue, and a huge smile. A smile that warms me still.
I don’t know how much I’ll be around the computer the next few days. For those who don’t have our address (or names for that matter) or such and want it, please e-mail our beloved “Auntie Barb” at
auntiebinpa@yahoo.com
And next time you see a cow or a duck, tell it hello for Mary Lou – she’ll get a laugh out of it.
I’ll tell hi for her to the duckies in my tub next time I see them, ruble. I’ve got a squeezie rubber ducky, and ducky non-slip-stickers, and a plug that’s got a ducky-mom float (you pull on the float to unplug). Mom also has a squeezie rubber ducky (it’s a pirate ducky!), but she castrated it… it would fall into the water as she was bathing, and she would inadvertently squeeze it against the tub’s wall and scare herself, so she took his whistle out  Now she’s got un pato pirata sin pito (a whistle/dick-less pirate ducky), which leads to much merriment even in the part of those who do not quite get the multiple entendres. I discovered the surgery when she complained that the ducky didn’t float any more :smack: 'Course not, it gets full of water!
On one hand, I have a ton of work. On the other, it would be nice if tptb (mine are small) would kindly look at the first documents of the rewritten batch and let me know whether I’m on the right track, doing too much, doing too little, or stepping on too many toes. And on a third hand, there’s other work I have to do but I don’t have access… the fourth hand is asking for chocolate.
(((((Kopek))))), I’m sorry for your loss but glad to hear that you have such treasured memories.
I have a rubber duckie too, it floats in the bath and vibrates a bit - I think it’s meant to be a massage duck but I’ve never been tempted to investigate that option. I also have a very small duckie who lights up and changes colour, very pretty and it amuses the cats.
Fat Club was not kind to me last night, not that I expected it to be after what I’ve done in the past 10 days. I’m going to make the situation worse because I had to bring cake into the office today. Yes, it’s that time of year again…
{{{kopek}}} - guess that answers my question of where you’ve been. Your mother-in-law was a gem, to be sure and I can tell your life was richer for having shared part of it with her. Warm hugs to you and your sweet wife - I know you’ll be there for each other and you’ll have tons of Muvver memories to bring you smiles thru the years.
I’m up and started early today - I’ve sent **FCD **off to work with a nicely packed lunch, I’ve got the dishwasher full and running, after leaving a disaster of a kitchen last night, and all the counters are wiped down. I’m caffeinating and thinking about breakfast, thinking it’d be nice if the Breakfast Fairy showed up with some eggs benedict and a blueberry muffin… I’ll probably have a bowl of cereal instead.
Today’s plans include making a big batch of sketty sauce, since I have some fresh mushrooms that need to be used. I may also go outside and start raking a bit - I’m gonna assume winter is over and I can start my spring transplanting. Or I might just go back to bed and nap.
Happy Hump Day!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 50 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 73 for the day so should be nice. Just wish my sinuses would be nice.
{{{Ruble}}} I’m so sorry for your loss. Muvver sounds like a great lady anyone would instantly fall in love with. I leave you with this prayer from the Episcopal Church Book of Common Prayer…
Almighty God, we remember this day before thee thy faithful
servant Mary Lou.; and we pray that, having opened to her the gates
of larger life, thou wilt receive her more and more into thy
joyful service, that, with all who have faithfully served thee in
the past, she may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ
our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of
the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Now I must seek out more caffiene and feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence. Le Sigh.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
