In case you forgot, we live on opposite sides of the country. I’ll be moving to San Diego around August or so, though. Still a nine hour drive, but far closer to San Francisco than upstate NY.
By bitters, you mean Angostura, right? In that case, I’ve got the ingredients.
Yeah, come on up sometime. You can travel up with Esprix. We’ll drink gin, I’ll show you around SF. Grand ole time. Brainwash you into becoming an avid supporter of the glories of communism. It’ll be fun
And yes. Angostura bitters work quite well. mmmm. LEt me know what you think of it.
Wow, I missed this… curse my slow dial up and days off… ah well.
I’m not a big scotch person (put down the rocks, it’s not my fault!) and tequila makes me ill, ever since I drank one bottle, and puked for almost 4 hours…
I’m going to start a new thread… hehehe…
However, I just recently learned about augmenting my hard lemon drinks with vodka… woo hoo!!! Talk about hitting you when you weren’t looking!
I’ve learned not to drink hard drinks in mixed company… makes me stupid to fast, thus I will kick back and drink ciders… good fun for everyone. If only I could find Strongbow in bottles here… dang it!!
Yes! That’s what’s so cool about it. You can make drinks so strong they could peel paint and still go down smooth. It’s like death by caramel, an ingredient common to both and doubtless the primary reason they taste so alike.
I don’t think I’ve EVER had Southern Comfort. SOmeone wanna help me remedy this?
As for my current favorites…erm…none. Moving + parents around = Falcon hasn’t had a drink in a LOOOOONG time. Methinks I’m gonna dig that scotch out tonight…
Before dinner: Scotch. Glenfiddich preferably, (rocket fuel, even the bottle looks vaguely like a rocket) but almost anything will do.
(Then wine with dinner, and then…)
After dinner: Port actually, but I don’t think this qualifies as a hard liquor. When that’s not around, Sambucca, lots of it. Especially if the weather’s cold.
Great balls of blubber, boy - let me know when this happens! I’ll show you the town!
5 weeks and counting…
To answer the OP - I don’t drink, but I do have a bottle of midori and thrilla vanilla that I sometimes make sissy drinks with.
(Oh, and JBirdman12, every time I see your screen name, all I can think of is Tom Lehrer’s introduction to his song “It Makes A Fellow Proud To Be A Soldier,” when he says that the Navy had its own “theme song,” being “Anchors Aweigh,” and the Air Force had their own - “Up And Away, Junior Birdman.” Cracks me up!)
For all you Vodka-philes, try Belvedere or my personal favorite, Ketel 1.
Black Jack Daniels (never quite got the taste of the green one) and Tullamore Dew in the crock are all the straight Whiskey a boy (or girl) would ever need. For mixed drinks, 7&7 all night long, and into the next morning, then a few for brunch…
…but when I do, I lean toward Tradesilicon and Birdman - Absolut chilled - except I prefer Mandarin (orange) over the Citron (lemon) or original. SOOOOO smooooth.
Never been wrecked on it, but I can see how I could get that way…
Just to give you a picture of SoCo, imagine an alcoholic cola that’s heavy on the fruit flavor. Pretty good, actually, especially if you like sweet drinks.
I haven’t tried Jager or Ouso. I’ve had Goldschlager recently, after the burning stopped it was rather nice. I was so hoping for sparkly poo, though. What other ‘demon liquors’ should I add to my list to try?
I’m very happy to know I brighten your day, Esprix (Note to self: call my congressman regarding the Air Force’s blatant and obvious defamation of my character. I mean, Junior? I’m much more senior than that.)
And Pantom, Sambucca is one of those concoctions that, for whatever reason, act in the manner of Dr Jeckyl’s transformation serum when I drink it. I’ve had more nights I don’t want to remember from that stuff than I can count on all my fingers and toes. Ditto for Jaegermeister, only more so. And that’s a good thing. Otherwise, what’s the point in drinking in the first place?
SoCo is peach-flavored whiskey. Very sweet. I probably wouldn’t like it even if I didn’t hate peaches.
I like gin & tonic myself. Tastes great and looks cool under a black light. It doesn’t even matter much to me what kind of gin, I’m not THAT picky when it comes to hard liquor (though I learned that if the cheapest vodka in the store is Popov, go with the second cheapest).
RE: Hard Core cider (someone mentioned it in the thread, only reason I am hijacking a hard liquor discussion), that is what originally turned me on to cider (actually it was Hard Core with cranberry flavor) but I have since switched to Hornsbys Draft Cider, far superior in my opinion. You might want to try both the Amber and the Draft cider, the Amber is closer in flavor to Hard Core but I prefer the dryer Draft.
Peach flavored? What? I always thought SoCo’s unique flavor came from the abundance of caramel. It’s certainly not peach flavored. At least, not to my jaded tastebuds it’s not.
Tonight I rediscovered the joys of Jack Daniels. In fact, I’m so sloppy drunk right now it’s a flat out miracle that anything I’m typing is making any kind of sense at all.
