Favorite HBO Game of Thrones moments

I’d never read any of the books, so for me… the execution of Ned Stark stands out more than anything else.

Oh, there have been many, many stunning, hilarious and captivating scenes since then, but none of them has ever taken me as completely by surprise as the death of Ned Stark. Not even the Red Wedding.

NOBODY kills off the star in season one! NOBODY! I never imagined that could happen!

Mentioned this in one of the main threads, but I’ve always loved Tyrion’s rallying speech to the soldiers during the Battle of Blackwater, especially the closing line: “Those are brave men knocking at our door. Let’s go kill them!”

Also, one of my other favorites is when Oberyn visits Tyrion in his cell, and tells the story of their first meeting. Tyrion’s face during the story, especially when Oberyn says “That’s no monster - it’s just a baby.” That always makes me tear up just a little bit.

Speaking of Oberyn…it’s not a favorite scene by any means, but his duel with The Mountain is one of the most  scenes I’ve ever seen.

No kidding. After that episode was over, I just kept staring at the screen and swearing over and over.

Tyrions speech during his trial.

Perfect example of why it’s wrong to confuse his wit with his (lack of) wisdom. You’re completely at a dudes mercy- so insult him.

Am I the first to mention the exchange between Tywin & Arya?

  • The scene where Tywin almost catches her because the lowborn say m’lord, not my lord. Without batting an eye, she lies that she learned the proper courtesy from her mother who served Lady Dustin before the war.
  • When he asks her what the Northerners think of Robb. Followed up by whether Robb Stark can be killed. Her response was poignant, but it was also a veiled threat to Tywin. “Anyone can be killed, my lord.”

The opening credits with the volume turned up.

“Chaos is a ladder and only the climb is real.”

I know we said ignore the books, but can someone PM me (or double spoiler tag) to tell me if that Littlefinger chaos speech was written for the show or if it was actually one of the books?

Littlefinger actor gave me chills when he delivered that monologue about chaos.

When Ned is so frustrated by Catelyn that he rides off on a horse in a huff but not before tossing the pizza up onto the roof of the horse barn in Winterfell.

Great t.v. moment right there…

The pilot episode at the end where Jamie gives Bran a little shove off of the tower. It was a long way down…

Littlefinger and Varys are alone in the throne room at King’s Landing, looking at the Iron Throne.

Varys: Ugly old thing.

Littlefinger: It has a certain appeal.

Varys: Mmm. The Lysa Arryn of chairs.

I was hooked when Dany ordered her baby dragons to burn her captor in Season 2. Dracarys!

The lighting of the wildfire in the Battle at Blackwater Bay.
I just love it when a plan comes together.
