One of the cleverest ideas I ever came across in the “free nibblies” department was a restaurant which brought huge silver trays of a wide selection of bread and spreads to the table from the moment you sat down until the moment you left the restaurant. Admittedly, to pull this off well you need a great bakery close by and you need to experiment with the spreads (they made an anchovy butter to die for), but it’s relatively cheap, there’s little waste, and from the customer’s viewpoint you don’t feel like there’s this huge vacuum while you’re waiting for your orders to hit the table.
Drinks wise - any restaurant which provides a pitcher of iced water on the table gets an extra star.
Off to IMHO.
Pre-dinner? An anchovy in puff-pastry with a bone-dry fino sherry. Or live oysters and tiny chipolata sausages with Guinness. Or blinis topped with sour cream and caviar with champagne.
I’m a pub fan, so I’d have to go with a good red beer (Bass, Tennant’s, Murphy’s Amber, Killian’s if I have to) and a shepard’s pie or Guiness stew.
Pizza and wheat beer is good too.
punk snot dead,
broccoli!
For bar food drink I have to go with veggie Quesidillas, cheese sticks, onion rings. If you are looking for entress type food, Im a vegetarian. I like indian or middle eastern foods. There is a great english bar in St pete florida that serves food with an indian flair. It kicks ass.
Beer is definetly my drink. Guniness, Newcastle, Blue moon, John Courage, and the best of all… fin du monde. Of course I would never turn down a good cold bud either.
