Also, at one point or another, each of the other Monkees has annoyed me a bit, and Peter never has. <sigh> hehehe. Peter’s dreamy…
Peter Tork is and always has been my favorite Monkee (and beyond Monkeeness). As referenced in earlier threads, I have had the opportunity to meet three of the four Monkees and genuinely enjoyed meeting them all but it only reaffirmed Peter as my favorite Monkee and quite a special human being. He is exceptionally talented–playing an instrument from nearly all categories of instruments (I recently learned that he can, in fact, also play drums/percussion instruments).
He is intelligent and has a broad knowledge of many subjects and speaks well on them. He has spoken at events regarding his chemical dependency and recovery.
I have seen him show the utmost kindness to even the most obnoxious fans (even though he has at times been known to show impatience and/or a wee temper to some of the same when they cross the line–he has been stalked by a fan).
Rather than rewrite everything I know on the man here, you can find more here: For the last time, NSYNC is not a damn BAND! and Monkees (the latter includes links to photos!;)).
I can also say that of the Monkees’ fans I know, those who started liking Peter from minute one almost always remain loyal/true to liking him best while those who started out liking other members may and have vacillated in their taste (i.e. favorite Monkee).
That’s my glowing recommendation…too bad he’s not applying for a job, eh?
Cheers,
Peta (a Torkster thru and thru)
Yep, when I was young; 10 in 1968, Peter was My favorite too. Kindof by the process of elimination.
Davy was the fave, so that was out, Mickey was too wacky, Mike was too nerdy.
I do remember his song and video for Lucy and Ramona and Sunset Sam though.
As a kid, I liked Davey best, because he was cute.
As an adult, I liked Peter, because he was cute.
Deep, huh?
I did go to one of the Monkee’s “reunion” concerts (in like 1986?) At the Greek Theatre in L.A. I went there the night that Mike surprised everyone and showed up and played a few songs with the guys. The whole crowd went mad. Including me. It was great!
That’s a cool story, yosemite. I didn’t know that Mike actually played with the band during the reunion concerts. I though he just became a bitter and hard-hearted hermit. The things one learns from other dopers.
Mickey is my favorite. Always was, always will be. I have a picture of him and me after a Mickey/Davy concert at the Holiday Star Plaza in Merrillville, IN. I always point out in the picture that Mickey has his hand on my arm. Unnecessary touches from Mickey are so divine!!!
I also have a picture of Davy and me at the above mentioned venue a year before their concert. I saw an episode of the Brady Bunch acted out word for word by some goofball actors. They did the one with Marcia wanting Davy to sing at her prom. Davy played himself. Pretty entertaining.
However, Mike is a close second because he’s the strong leader, and I like that in a man!
Mickey Dolenz.
I saw the Monkees in concert on their reunion tour in
1985, and he was by far the best showman - he had the
strongest voice left, and he could dance, and connected
with the audience.
He could actually drum.
He was the funniest.
And he co-wrote one of the episodes of the show.
Don’t mind me. I just stopped by to see how long it took before Peta would post here! Longer than I thought…

Sometimes Mike, 'cause he seemed smartest.
Sometimes Davy, 'cause he was cute.
Sometimes Peter, 'cause he seems so innocent and sweet.
Sometimes Mickey, 'cause he was silly and fun.
First of all Micky doesn’t have an e in it (sorry it bugs me)
Second Micky is the best cause once he gets the fro he’s adorable and he’s so funny. Ever read his book? It’s awesome. I actually met him at a concert and I cried. I felt so stupid!!! (but he signed my book!!)
Head is the BEST movie ever!!! They really were high when the wrote it!
My favorite Monkee is Curious George. No, wait a minute. You meant the band. Gotcha. I liked Davy because he’s soooooo cute! Although Mike Nesmith’s mom invented Liquid Paper, so he’s going to get a pretty big inheritance. So I guess I’ll have to pick Mike.
You know, I was going to point out the fact that it’s “Micky” and not “Mickey”, but I didn’t. Head is a marvelous movie!!! Too bad they shortened it before releasing it. They said it was too long. People were crazy back then.
Mike’s mom invented liquid paper.
(I am such a huge monkees fan it’s pathetic)
Have you read one of the cut scenes? Go here http://www.geocities.com/~monkeespad/changes.html It’s great
