FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024

Judge Dearie is performing his tasks like a real live adult very experienced judge, and I am so happy to see that. But I have a hunch… just a hunch, mind you… that he’s also enjoying the hell out of himself.

So there is now a Special Apprentice.

Whom Trump cannot fire.

I guess there’s no way to know unless/until it happens, but what do we think is the likelihood that Loose Cannon would dare to pull Judge Dearie as special master? I bet she wants to because she’s probably getting complaints from trump’s team about how efficient and speedy Dearie is being. Total speculation on my part. But after getting called out by the 11th District, might she be more hesitant to try obvious ploys to slow things down?

Unless it’s in a public filing, such ex parte complaints would be highly improper and even a biased and incompetent judge would refuse to be part of such a thing.

I expect that is the case, yes. If she removes Dearie without any justification, she will probably have serious consequences. I’m not a legal expert but I imagine that would be enough for the 11th Circuit to take this case away, however that is done.

At this point she already has a lot of negative scrutiny and has been reprimanded. I doubt she’d go any further than what she’s done.

Trump & Co will do their complaining (as so much else they do) in the media - both mainstream and social.

And she did reserve the right to remove the Special Master for any reason whatsoever. But I suspect the tone of the 11th’s emergency stay will cause hesitation since the DOJ is already appealing the necessity of having a Special Master at all.

I guess I was thinking more like a friend of trump calling her up to shoot the breeze and then casually mentioning how displeased trump is by how things are going, kind of like how trump called Brad Kemp and told him how illegal it was for him not to “find” 11,000 votes. Not necessarily Trump’s lawyers themselves calling. But maybe Cannon has some line she won’t cross.

Again, just total speculation on my part, but I don’t trust her any further than I could throw her after the jurisdictional and Executive Privilege and classified document issues that she was just going to blow right past.

To what end? As others have pointed out, Cannon would be sacrificing what little is left of her reputation to make a ruling that would be overturned in a matter of days, and which even if it wasn’t overturned wouldn’t delay the DOJ’s investigation. At this point the Special Master is pretty much moot. The worst thing he’s doing to Trump is being a dick (from their point of view) by making them publicly back up all their unsubstantiated bullshit claims.

And charging him as much as $4k/day for the honor!

My new favorite person, Special Master, has told Trump’s team:
(paraphrasing…) Hey, concerning claims that the FBI planted evidence, please identify which pieces of evidence were not there before the FBI arrived. Thx.

Dearie is turning out to be exactly the type of judge he was described as: by the book, objective, efficient with regard to resolving the open questions, professional, and not receptive to malarkey (heh). How refreshing after Cannon.

And I still chuckle that Team Trump suggested him.

there are always two.

Good point. Just still afraid, perhaps irrationally, that somehow trump will be able to find a way to slow it all to a crawl. That’s what he does.

Maybe there’s something in the non-classified documents that he could be worried about? I’m a little unclear what they are other than love letters from trump’s favorite dictators.

Pretty much anything that is government property is tantamount to theft.

Evidence that would be of great interest to the January 6 committee regarding the insurrection attempt?

This doesn’t apply to Dearie exactly, but the 11th circuit stay and some other recent events are showing us that, while certainly right wing, many of these Federalist Society approved judges are also by the book hardasses.

But Dearie isn’t taking any salary at all, he says because he’s still employed as a judge.

Dearie said in the Thursday order that he would not be compensated for his work because he’s still being paid his judge’s salary, but that expenses such as Orenstein’s fees must be paid in full and on time or Trump could face court sanctions.

Possibly a slew of pardons that Dolt 45 wrote while still president, including one for himself, and never made public?
