As long as the fish tastes fine, it doesn’t matter how many eyes it had, does it?
FBI Search and Seizure at Trump's Mar-A-Lago Residence, August 8, 2022, Case Dismissed July 15, 2024
This is who the Republicans have always been, it is just that the mask has completely come off. They really are the party of evil. I know the term fascist has been way overused in the past couple of decades (and I knew it would come back to haunt the left for calling everyone a fascist), but the current day Republicans are at a minimum early stage fascist.
He’s just emulating his buddy Vlad, proud possessor of a Superbowl ring. “People give me stuff”.
It’s really easy to explain. Since The Donald was and is the very embodiment of the USofA, any gift — and a loan is really kind of a gift, right? — given to the country is really a gift to him. So he can do with it whatever he wants.
If there was any ambiguity, he probably had a standing order, like the one which stated that any document taken to the Residence was automatically declassified, clarifying the situation.
Damn liberals, ascribing impure motivations to something well within his prerogatives as Emperor President.
I listened to an interview with Alyssa Farah, who commented that the GOP needs the money that Trump can fundraise, so they continue to support him. Unsure of the truth of this, but it makes sense. We seriously need reform in campaign contributions.
may 20th 2024 is the date set for the mar a lago trial. it appears that she went half way between what both sides requested.
Cue a motion, “We can’t have a trial that close to Memorial Day! It will seriously interfere with our BBQ plans!”
Too bad it’s not a few weeks later. I’d have love to see how they would try to use their deep respect for the traditions of Juneteenth as an excuse to kick the can down the road even further.
A May trial works for me. I bet it works for Jack Smith as well.
It’s a reasonable date, let’s just hope she sticks with it. I could see a minor delay or two and it ends up closer to the end of summer, but there’s no way it should be pushed back past November.
After the primaries but before the election. Or so it is currently scheduled. I’m trying to decide if i think this is good. I wasn’t really expecting Cannon to agree with December, so I’m not surprised about that, but I figured she’d go to a February-March time frame that might result in an actual trial in the summer after all the shenanigans played out. Late May? Do they really need almost a year to get through discovery? Then there will be weeks of jury selection and motions to delay… there’s every possibility that this trial won’t actually begin in earnest until the election or later.
Here is the May 20, 2024 trail date Order. It sets out all the CIPA pre-trial dates. Next hearing is on Aug 25, 2023. Generally, there’s nothing unreasonable in here, although I/others could pick some things to quibble over.
It also confirms trial will be held in Fort Pierce (not Miami).
I’ve never executed a successful sports metaphor in my entire life.
To continue that unbroken streak …
ISTM that Cannon laid it up here, pushing it as far as she thought she reasonably could without getting spanked, but far enough that more motions for delay could inure to Trump’s estimable benefit.
Do I think 5/20/24 is an inherently bad date? No. But I’d be disturbed to see it slide too awfully much further.
I’m disgusted. A May 20 start date – almost two years after the raid! – means Trump will be the GOP nominee before the trial even starts, so even if we get a verdict before November, we could very well still be in the sentencing phase on election day.
And the (IMO more serious) Jan. 6 charges haven’t even been handed down yet.
It’s starting to look like the methodical approach taken by the DOJ and Smith, which may have seemed necessary to secure solid charges, will backfire. Summer and fall '24 will be an absolute shitshow.
I can imagine the con man threw Cannon a biscuit, saying “who’s a good girl? YOU’RE a good girl!” By this time he we certainly be the presumptive nominee. Better get the 1/6 indictment in a DC court ASAP so that a real judge can hopefully set an earlier data for that trial.
Yeah. I understand.
Personally, I don’t think the GOP Primary voters are likely to be swayed by much that comes from this trial (even if it got underway before the Primaries).
I view his nomination as all but a foregone conclusion.
My larger wish is that he’s either imprisoned before, or slaughtered in, the General Election.
I think the trial should have been in December. But, if the trial starts on May 20th, we’ll have a verdict by July 1 at the latest (and more likely June 20th). This isn’'t going to drag on once they start.
Yes, the trial should progress relatively swiftly; Jack Smith will have a finely honed case to present.
Agreed. But I would have preferred purple state undecideds to see the GOP nominate a convicted felon than someone who could still theoretically be found not guilty.
I mean, what could better drive home the criminality of the GOP than that?
This still leaves some of the swing states’ Primaries open to being informed by the verdict:
