Trump has now claimed that he declassified everything. Kind of like a priest consecrating communion wafers, I guess – he just waved his hands over the safe at Mar-a-lago and said “hocus pocus, you’re all declassified.”
But from what I read, it doesn’t matter - the Espionage Act is not predicated on the classification of the materials.
And I’m waiting with bated breath to hear Trump’s explanation as to why he felt he needed to have classified nuclear secrets at Mar-a-lago. Any moment now, I’m sure.
Remember the closed door meeting with Putin in Helsinki when Trump walked out of the room looking like a beaten dog? All of this makes me wonder if that’s when Putin gave him his marching orders. At least, to me, it sounds plausible. On the other hand, maybe he really is just that stupid. It’s hard to tell with him.
A good question. Regardless of his intelligence, or lack thereof, I wonder if, because of his money and privilege, he never really needed his brain to any extent and, thus, never learned how to think critically or morally.
In an ideal world, Garland will be free to prosecute Trump in accordance with the law and with reason. If Trump is guilty of selling national secrets to Saudi Arabia then he should be prosecuted for it.
In the real world, that might not be politically feasible and despite Biden’s personal stance that he shouldn’t interfere with the work of the Justice Department, he could end up having to tell him that he needs to avoid that whole avenue of inquiry.
If Trump was doing something with Turkey or someone, Garland should be able to proceed without issue. If it’s the Saudis, though, the “espionage” angle might be dropped in favor of preferring cases related to Jan 6, failure to pay taxes, financial crimes, etc.
Still don’t follow. Trump selling nuclear secrets to the Saudi’s should get a pass, because Biden made a recent trip to Saudi Arabia? And what’s the BS about Biden “begging”?
The latest from Beau of the Fifth Column. I haven’t viewed all of his videos, but have very much appreciated the ones I have. He talks about the given issue of the moment with valuable (to me) insight, delivered calmly (no fire-and-brimstone appeals to emotion). Today, he allowed his anger to show, without letting it devolve into a rant.
Given the evidence, I think it is about time to pull his passport and put him and his plane on the no fly list.
Exiled dictators (with influence) can be a problem.
He’s echoing what I suggested earlier. The President can’t just say, “This is declassified.” There is a process for it, because people need to know the classification of documents. It seems like simple common sense. It’s the equivalent of Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy by yelling it in public.
Except this was just him deciding in his own mind to do it, not even telling anyone else. Supposedly.
There are main three types of intelligence:
Sigint – Signals. Communications, either voice or code which is what I worked with.
Elint – Electronic. Non-communicating emissions, principally radar. That’s what I worked with when I got out of the navy.
Humint – Human. Your classic spy stuff, following someone around, finding where they live, eat, etc. Also someone dropping a dime on them. That was not me
And yes, it can be either the intelligence itself or the process and equipment used to collect it.
Your general Trump supporter that is not motivated by racism, or hating to pay taxes (wades again into racism, because “they” get “my” money) is profoundly stupid.
“President Barack Hussein Obama kept 33 million pages of documents, much of them classified. How many of them pertained to nuclear? Word is, lots!”
– Donald Trump, August 12, 2022
OK, now would you like to comment without tacitly admitting that were unlawfully in possession of classified nuclear documents ?
