Oh man. Of all the outcomes, this would be the one that would be likeliest to usher in the apocalypse.
Trump already runs a death cult, whose members show their allegiance to him by refusing the COVID vaccine or masks. The last thing you do with an active death cult is kill off the cult leader: there’s no better way to solidify and make permanent the death cultists’ belief system than to turn their leader into a martyr.
The chances that the death penalty will be applied here are vanishingly small, but if they were, I would legit expect at minimum mass terrorism, and very possibly civil war. The capture and use of nuclear weapons by members of the death cult is not outside the question, given the tens of millions of members it has.
We need to attenuate and exhaust the cultists’ enthusiasm, not give them a martyr to worship.
I couldn’t see a prosecutor asking for it, and I would never imagine it would be carried out, given Trump’s age. I mean, it took McVeigh four years after his trial to be executed, and by the end he wanted the death penalty. Donald Trump would take every avenue of appeal available - and he’d have many.
But yes, a death sentence, carried out, would be hideously inflammatory to every Trumpist around.
Interestingly, their children were adopted by Abel Meeropol, a Jewish teacher who wrote the poem Strange Fruit, in response to images of lynchings of black southern men. That poem was made famous by Billie Holliday who recorded it.
For anyone who might not be aware, that disbarred and disgraced piece of shit was Trump’s mentor and an important influence on his eventual development into a horror of a human being with the ethics of a nocturnal rodent.
Oh, so we’re going to cater to the lowest common denominator (read that as: lowest form of life) in lieu of seeing justice done? I say, bring it. We need to make sure nothing even remotely like this ever happens again. Trump getting off with a slap on the wrist will motivate the next guy who wants to overthrow the government. Liberty will die, perhaps to thunderous applause.
If the cultists want to rise up from their couches, then I would have two words for the armed forces: Lock and Load. I am far beyond having any sympathy whatsoever for these bottom-feeding scumbags, and they want to throw away their pathetic lives in a futile and stupid gesture, well, they’re just the ones to do it. Having them hamstring the country with the threat of domestic terrorism or Very Possibly Civil War is unconscionable; it is as morally wrong to bully from a position of weakness as it is a position of strength. We’ve tried to play ball with these assclowns and they have spit in our face.
It’s funny how the tone from the left changes when they are able to direct law enforcement and the military at their political enemies. Talks of eradication, dehumanizing language, etc. is a far cry from the disingenuous calls for defund the police and criminal justice reform. The problem wasn’t that police had powers or were using their powers unjustly. The problem was the dems and their regime weren’t in full control of the security apparatus.
I like to see how extensive and complete the 180º change in stance from ‘all cops are bastards’ and the denouncing of violence for political change after promoting violence for political change solely because of the (D) after the president’s name.
