Feel Good Friday: Today I Smiled Because (Your Replies Wanted)

I was biking along and found $7 rolled up along the grass. This is one advantage of biking so slowly you can read paper on the ground.

I’m smiling because my baby girl won’t stop standing on her head.

I’m also smiling because my son and I finally managed to catch the ice cream truck! He usually speeds through the neighborhood, right in the middle of naptime. But we were smart this time. My son distracted him by dancing and jumping in our driveway, so he stopped and waited while I ran in to get change. This is the first time we’ve caught him since we moved in to the house six years ago!

I tend to eat all the things he thinks are gross - sushi, lamb, fish mostly. Plus I get the remote to myself (for the very little I want to see on TV), and can just enjoy a quiet house. Mr saje likes to have the TV on all the time, or tunes or an audiobook. I like those too, but not always. I like my peace and quiet and solitude

Thanks to just a little bit of campaigning, I now have enough members going out on strike that it looks like they’re going to have to close the school.
I had a really nice time at the pub with some people from work who I haven’t spent a lot of time with but like a lot.
My brother is bringing his family over from the States unexpectedly. It’ll be at a bad time for me and I may struggle to see them, but it’ll make the rest of my family happy.
Tomorrow I get to go and cheer up a friend who’s having a rough time, give him the gift we brought him from our holiday and laugh a lot.

Post useless without pics!

:frowning:

Awesome. Congratulations and let us know if it is indeed boy, girl or Klingon.

Cherries are in season and the local orchard is selling magnificent Bings, Rainiers and other varietals. Cherries are one of the best fruits in the world, and it’s sheer luxury to be able to buy big bags of them and cram them into your face. They’re among the lowest-carb fruits, too, I understand, so I try to assuage my guilt by thinking of that.

Gotta buy some more tomorrow morning.

I am smiling wryly at the ironic situation I am in WRT my impending divorce. I am sad about the whole affair, but I can smile because I know its for the best for all concerned (especially our boys), I don’t have to deal with my miscreant step-daughter ever again and the objective part of me knows that my wife and I were never meant to be and that we stayed together because of pregnancies and sex.

This whole situation has me in an emotional whirlwind but I can still manage a smile as long as I don’t dwell on what could have been. Not that it matters anymore.

I smiled today because I found an amazing place to hike just minutes from my home.

I saw so many awesome animals, plants, and insects…and took some great pictures.
Great Herons, several flocks of American White Pelicans, giant Bullfrogs, Nutria, Dragonflies. Such a fantastic day!

Thanks for starting a thread for me to tell y’all about it.

The carpenter who has been rebuilding my shower finished it today. I still can’t use it because the caulk needs to dry for 24 hours and the plumber has to come back tomorrow to install the shower head, etc. But, it looks awesome!

We bought this house in January of 2010. In February of 2010 the tiles in our only shower started falling off. Between coming up with the money and then losing it on unexpected emergencies, finding contractors and then having them bail on us, it took us over a year to get the job started. It was a pain to deal with and caused us a lot of stress. We had to keep relining the shower walls with heat-shrink window plastic to minimize the water damage to the walls. The bathroom smelled nasty because nothing I did would keep the shower clean and the exposed 60 year old tiling stuff stank.

I was unsure of the plumber/carpenter combo we ended up with but it didn’t take long for them to make me comfortable with their work. They have both been great and the fact that they’re family friends (not mine - each other’s families) means they communicate very well and unlike our last remodel, we had no lost time due to mis-communication between the guys.

They both came across annoying problems and both of them dealt with them in a timely manner. They both loved my dogs and spent time playing with them every day they were here. The carpenter walked into the house this morning and the first words out of his mouth were a happy birthday to my boyfriend.

All in all, this has been the best home remodel project I’ve ever dealt with. I am so glad I found these guys and I’ll definitely be using them again.

By the way, did I mention that MY SHOWER IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
Before (after I took the plastic down to prepare for the demolition)

After As you can see, my floor tiling job isn’t as nice as his and the ugly ass pink tiles and blue wallpaper are still…ugly. But the shower really improves the whole room.

After 2 Our formerly fugly tub. It’s pinkish beige, just like the old tiles. Damn bathroom was hideous (and it had carpet). That stupid tub made the whole thing harder. The shower is slightly bigger than 4’x4’ but has a full size tub because of the angle. The addition of the new tiles completely changes the look of the tub and I love it now. The fact that it’s in perfect condition makes me even happier.

After 3 Our new vent fan - to bring the shower up to code.

At work I had requested a new chair because the pneumatics for up and down control on my old chair had completely failed.

Came in to work today and found the new one chair waiting for me.

And a very sweet chair it is indeed.

Today has been a really good day.

In addition to the shower -

I found out today that my boyfriend has an interview next week for a possible promotion. If they stick to what they said and give it to one of the engineers, he has a 50% chance of getting it because only 2 of the 3 applied for it. If they give the promotion based on breadth and depth of knowledge and skill, he’ll get the job. If they give the promotion based on ability to kiss corporate ass and follow rigid guidelines (which is a very bad thing in his field but good to corporate people), then the other guy will get it. I hope that for once they actually make a decision that will benefit the department.

I finally got my desk clean today. My beading projects were getting out of control and it was interfering with my ability to do my homework at my desk.

The new shower curtain that we bought today has frogs on it. Huge frogs.

I found out today that there’s a 95% chance that my beloved sister will be coming to visit me next weekend.

I also found out today that there’s a 100% chance that my beloved sister will be paying back the $300 I lent her when she was out of work for surgery a year ago.

My boyfriend loves the rocket I gave him for his birthday today.

We had an awesome lunch at the local diner today and I had the cream of veggie soup and it’s my new absolute favorite soup. Next time I go and it’s on the menu, I’m just going to get 4 cups of that and nothing else. It was heavenly.

I took 5 quizzes today and I got a 97 on one of them an 100 on the other 4.

I read the wrong chapter for one of my quizzes (turns out it was ASSIGNMENT 10, not CHAPTER 10). I took a chance and took the chapter 22 quiz without reading it because I had a deadline to meet. I still got a 100 on it because it was an introduction to Microbiology and that’s an interest of mine.

The only decent, friendly neighbors we ever had, who moved away 5 years ago, dropped by to visit since they were in the area (and they were curious as to how their ex-house, a real showplace, was being kept up). Not only are they in good health and doing well in retirement, they admitted they should never have moved in the first place and they miss their ex-house (and ex-neighbors and the 'hood) terribly. I never could ask them why they moved. But they are great people and I’m glad they are doing well, it was fun talking with them again.

Today is the first time I’ve consciously smiled with an open mouth in about 5 years.

After much procrastinating, I finally sat in the dentist’s chair this afternoon. They extracted the remaining 12 upper teeth and 1 troublesome lower molar, threw in one or two stitches, slapped a full upper denture into my bleeding gums and sent me on my way with a vicodin prescription.

The bleeding has finally come to a halt. Aside from the steady throb, my mouth is mostly just very very confused: I can’t stop salivating for the life of me, and have not yet mastered the art of swallowing comfortably - which is an annoying combination, to say the least.

Also, to say that I have a slight lisp would be an understatement.

The whole thing put me back about $3k (after insurance), but I’m very impressed with the look of the denture - the new teeth look pretty much exactly like my old teeth, except without all the cavities, rot, and missing teeth.

Photo, if anyone is interested: (apologies in advance for having not shaved recently)

A man named Hiscock who teaches junior high?

That is the bravest thing I have ever heard.

Congrats! They look great! I understand the lisp problem. I got a flipper a couple weeks ago after having a broken tooth pulled and the lisp I spent a couple years in speech therapy to get rid of came back as soon as I put it in. I wear the flipper off an on all day to keep the space from shifting but I avoid it as much as possible.

These happened earlier this week, but they still make me smile today, so I’m countin’ em!

I pick my six-year-old niece up from Girl Scout camp on Tuesdays. When she saw me coming down the hall she starting jumping up and down and clapping. “Carol! Carol’s here!!”

Later after her mom and little sister got home, lil sis (three-years-old) drew a picture of me, brought it to me, decided it needed… something… took it back, saying, “I give you a shit.”

A. What?

“I give you a shit!”

SIL and I exchange looks.

SIL: “Honey, do you mean a shirt?”

Niece (exasperated): “Yeeesssss, mommy! A shit!”

I went to pick up some tickets my friend had won and they said “Ah, you must be … Daniel” I’m a girl.

The last time I went to that address it was looking for the previous owner, with the police … he had refused to turn my car over to me. I was driving it this time. Ha!

My friend bought a chest of drawers from an irritating woman, looking for something I told him - you’ll have to feel around in Jackson’s drawers.

My Friday smile is from spending the day at Point Reyes National Seashore, one of my favorite places in the world.

I’m sad because Betty Fox , mother of Terry Fox, has passed away. I’m happy because of the amazing job she did carrying on her son’s legacy raising money and awareness for cancer treatments. She had diabetes and arthritis, so in some ways she is as much a hero, or more, than her son, for continuing to work for all these years. All three diseases have affected close members of my family and/or close friends, and it’s amazing how strong people can be.

The Terry Fox Run should be renamed: the Terry and Betty Fox Run, but she wouldn’t want that.

One of my best friends is a cancer survivor and oncology nurse: I need to call her and remind her how awesome she is!
