Feud erupts between Chris Brown and CM Punk

That song is kind of a mixture between R&B, rap, and pop but it would usually be classified as R&B or pop.

During the “Golden Age” of rap (about 1989/1990-1999/early 2000) the difference between rap and R&B was a lot bigger than it is today. At the time rap was influenced by R&B and often used samples from R&B groups like DeBarge.

For example both these songs were released in 1995 (Albums were at least):

This is rap

This is R&B

Now though rap/hip hop and R&B are not nearly as different and what is considered popular R&B today is more like a mixture of pop music and “rap” and what is considered “rap” today is not very different from what is considered R&B and is a lot more like pop than ever before.

At least that is the way I look at it, feel free to correct me in any way. I don’t listen to R&B and I don’t listen to very much new, mainstream music but I do hear it quite a bit.

And of course there is R&B from before rap even existed.

IIRC (and I’m not going googling to look it up), Debra was just as much an instigator of physical abuse as Austin. Maybe even more. Sure, Austin is bigger and stronger, and being the man is going to get the worst of any publicity, but they may have been equally combative toward one another.

Also, I don’t see Stone Cold Tweeting “I may have whipped a woman, but I’m still the biggest influence of all time, haters. And that’s the bottom line…”

Well, as I linked to above, he also got arrested for assaulting his next gf after Deb, so either he’s not so nice to women or he’s really bad at picking women.

He also beat up Stacy Kiebler once, but that was in an episode of Chuck, so it doesn’t count.

For realsies?

Punk is more interesting than Brown, so… Punk mentioned him when talking down Y2J the other night.

Can I just say I love how SDMB threads warp? We haven’t even reached page two yet, and already there’s a rap vs. r&b vs. hip hop discussion plus debate over whether any good music has been made in any of those genres in the past 20 years. The post mentioning Stone Cold Steve Austin and Stacy Keibler’s appearance on *Chuck *is just the cherry on the sundae.

Anyway, just to derail the thread further, here is a pic of my future husband CM Punk wearing a dog collar with a chain. Why? Because I said so, that’s why.

Punk needs to go back to longer hair. He looked really strange at Elimination Chamber with slicked back hair and a clean shaven face. If he wore a button down and a tie, he could have a mind numbing desk job somewhere.

The pinnacle of Punk’s hotness, IMO, was 2008/9 when he had the longish dark hair and moderate scruff. However, I think he’s adorable to this day. His face is so expressive and he has charisma to burn, if he’d wanted to be *anything *I think he would’ve succeeded at it: movie star, cult leader… it just happens he grew up wanting to be a wrestler.

The look he gave Jericho after the Elimination Chamber was hilarious.

I was talking about Justin Timberlake (I should have been more specific) but that song you posted is definitely not rap.
