I can’t see it for about another month because I’m at my parents house with dial-up for summer vacation.
Would someone be kind enough to comment on the overall quality of the trailer? For a point of reference, I remember thinking that The Two Towers trailer was one of the best I’d ever seen.
drm: if you mean the teaser trailer that they tacked on the end of Fellowship, then no, it’s not that good. But that one was like four minutes long and was projected onto the big screen, while this one’s only 1:35 and in a window on your desktop. But it’s still pretty awesome! I love that they kept the release of it a total secret right up until it was out! I’m sure theonering.net will have a frame-by-fram analysis up sometime soon this week.
Yay! Our noble IT guy here at work loaded the appropriate media player onto my computer, and I got to see it after several tries.
[spoiler] That warrior clasping the injured Theoden is Dernhelm! I only saw it after a couple of viewings. Good thing the helmet covers the warrior’s face pretty well.
I’m glad to see it looks like the Gandalf/Pippin relationship in Minas Tirith will be kept. [/spoiler]

I don’t think this is an official release (well, obviously, considering New Line has asked for its removal), and the sound and choppy cuts bear that out. (Plus there’s a lot of rehashed TTT music.) I get the impression that this is a leaked version of the trailer before Jackson has had a chance to cut a final version.
Still, for all that it’s unfinished, damn cool.
I just checked the site and New Line made them take it down. BLAST!
Cheers! Trailers are a very important to me and it’s nice to know this one is enjoyable. If an unfinished version is good (from eutactic’s post), I’m even more excited for the real trailer.
I ran through it 3 or 4 times before the link came down. It focused almost entirely on Gondor and Pelennor Fields–a wonderful shot of charging Rohirrim, and the line “Ride to ruin and the world’s ending!” and Gandalf riding Shadowfax up stairs to the top of some battlements. Fell beasts swooping onto besieged soldiers; a battering ram (Grond, presumably).
Very little Sam & Frodo and Mordor. No Cirith Ungol, no Minas Morgul, definitely no Shire and Grey Havens.
Definitely has my anticipation meter pegged.

That’s not Dernhelm and Theoden, it’s Pippin holding Merry in his arms, probably post-Witch King, since Gandalf is in the background. Poor Merry! He’s in agony.
