@penultima_thule has been travelling through the USA (thread here: Diary of a Wandering Thule ), and will be coming through the Finger Lakes area. We’ve been discussing a possible meetup, maybe at a brewery @Paintcharge suggested in Burdett, which is about halfway between where I am and where Paintcharge is. I’m pretty sure we’ve got other members in the general Finger Lakes area – anybody else interested?
I don’t think that either location or day/time are certain yet; though the day’s going to have to be whenever penultima winds up coming through here.

OK, the timing is I’m leaving NYC on Sat July 10th.
Original plan was to overnight around Niagara but if I have to break the trip, so be it.
Venue and timing I’ll leave to the locals, just be mindful of my travelling times.

Saturday morning and early afternoon, the only place I could meet would be at farmers’ market. But you wouldn’t get here by then unless you’re leaving NYCity really early in the morning, it’s probably about a five hour drive just to get this far. Niagara from NYCity in one day I don’t think will leave you time to do much of anything but drive. It’s about 400 miles by car.
I might be able to meet someplace late on Saturday, but I need to get home from market, unload, weigh in (certified organic audit trail), and then sleep for a while if I’m going to be fit to drive anywhere else; I have to get up extra early for market and will be running way short on sleep.
– wait a minute. July 10 isn’t a Saturday. July 10th is a Monday. Do you mean Monday 10, or Saturday 8? I’ve got more leeway on the Monday.

I’ve been knocking over 400 miles days for the last two weeks.
My routing ap gives NYC to Easton to Burdett at 1 1/2 + 3 1/2 hours but I can’t make an early start because I need to get to my vehicle, hopefully parked on Staten Island.
So that would be a full day and I’ll need to stop about there and pick up Niagara the next day. So Dopefest late afternoon or evening.
The area’s full of neat B&B’s. I’d think some of them would have openings on a Monday; but at this time of year I’d recommend reservations in advance, whether you go with a B&B or a hotel.
Agree, there are lots of B&Bs, the only hotel I can think of is the big one in Watkins Glen, which is about a half hour south of Burdett.
Let me know the plans when they become more concrete.
I’d say Watkins is more like ten minutes from Burdett. – ah, just took a look at the map and Two Goats is a ways north from the middle of Burdett; probably at least 20 minutes from Watkins. I haven’t been there, but am willing to give it a try. That would be about a 40 minute drive for me (unless they put the ferry back in operation in the interval, which would shorten the drive quite a bit. But isn’t going to happen (PT, that ferry hasn’t run in probably 100 years.))
Agreeing that B&B’s are a lot thicker on the ground than hotels in the area.
I think at this point we’re waiting for @penultima_thule to make further decisions; though they may not be able to until closer to the date.
OK, firming a few things up.
I have booked accommodation at Watkins Glen on July 10th.
I can’t make an early start as I’ll need to pick up my car. But assuming I can get on the road by about 10am that make for an arrival in Finger Lakes area around 3pm.

Alright, I’ll be at Two Goats on the 10th. Look for a guy with glasses, a graying beard, and a Red Sox hat with a pencil behind one ear. I gotta work, but I’ll skive off early and try to get there 3:30-ish. Looking forward to meeting y’all.
OK, on my calendar/lists. Barring something unexpected I should be able to make that, though how long I can stay may be another matter.
Short fat old white woman, also glasses, grey hair probably piled somewhat messily on top of my head, probably wearing cargo pants and some sort of at least slightly colorful shirt over them. Shirt may or may not have cats on it (pictures only; though cat hair I’m afraid comes with me everywhere.)

I went for a motel.
All the B&Bs way above my budget for a one night stay.
The motel is too, but not by so nose bleeding much.
Could you make it later that day? – it doesn’t seem that earlier would work.
The picture on the website looks like Two Goats has outdoor seating. Can I suggest that weather permitting we sit outside? I have multiple risk factors and am still sometimes masking in enclosed situations; though on a Monday midafternoon they may not be crowded. – and the view’s probably good.
I drove to the Finger Lakes in 2000. T’was a Suicide attempt from lack of sleep. Wish I could remember how pretty it was up there.
I crashed a Fraternity Party in Ithica, after being awake for about 60 hours. Probably not the best decision I’ve ever made. But it was fun.
Delivered my cargo, and headed home. Again, not real good decision making. I don’t even know where I slept after that. I tried to get a room in Wyoming in a fierce blizzard, but ended up sleeping in the lobby till they kicked me out.
