Why do you keep on bringing religion into a conversation about Jews? What does that have to do with anything? I’m honestly curious.
Are you suggesting the religious aspect of Jewish life has no bearing on the ME problem? Seeing as it’s kinda the thing they identify themselves by, albeit in different flavours, like the muslims and christians, I’d say it was also kinda relevant. Unless they all want to transform over to Muslim-lite and put their differences behind each other?
It has some slight bearing on the Jewish side, a bit of a larger one on the Muslim. Mainly, though, religion is a convenient marker for the various factions of what is essentially an ethnic dispute.
Plenty of Jews are atheists - like my wife, for instance. Hell, the Jews who founded Israel were atheists, and no Israeli Prime Minister has ever gone to synagogue on a regular basis (Ariel Sharon, when asked during his last election campaign whether he believed in God, answered “None of your business”).

Seriously, Ivan? Ethnic groups must be geneticly distinct to exist? Tell that to the French and Germans and Italians and Spaniards. There’s no genetic marker that can distinguish between a German and a Frenchmen, yet French and German are ethnic groups. And of course, there’s a difference between ethnicity and nationality, since there are plenty of people who are citizens of the state of France, yet aren’t ethnicly French–like Bretons and Basques.

I don’t think I’ve ever really known a Jew, or at least not one that is obviously so: odd hats, ringlets, serious glasses, beards, grasping fingers full of gold, maternal guilt, scientific excellence, control of the international banking sector, neuroticism and tasty cakes made of the blood of gentile children.
Thing is though, Israel is what it is. Israel has vigorously defended her borders by force of arms against aggression- usually this is all that a country needs to do to be secure and recognised - most of the commentators on this board live in countries that have done something similar in the past, after all. But there has to be a path to peace somehow, accommodating bits of land - back and forth - lest the sides fight a never ending war
