At this point, Fillion has released teaser videos with all of the main cast members whose characters survived Serenity: Morena Baccarin, Gina Torres, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, and Adam Baldwin (released yesterday, I think). With a week still to go before the 15th, one might suspect/expect a Tudyk video, and maybe ones with Mark Sheppard (Badger) and/or Christina Hendricks (Saffron).
Nathan Fillion has taken a huge risk. If this turns out as anything other than new episodes…people will now be so furious.
There have been (I think) jokes about Wash’s previously unmentioned twin brother.
Could in be animated? In the OWWS episode with Summer, she seemed to hesitant to go back to acting until her kids were older. I don’t know the shooting schedule for Family Law or The Rookie so not sure when this would happen. An animated show would be easier logistically (and could be a prequel)

Agreed; there are already a lot of fans saying exactly that.
Thinking about it more, my educated WAG is: animated TV series.
- If it’s set in between the original series and the movie, it allows for the participation of Tudyk as Wash.
- Set in that timeframe, it would also give them an in-universe reason for Ron Glass’s absence (as Book had left the Firefly before the movie).
- As several of the actors are currently working on other TV series, it’d allow them to record their voicework remotely.
- It’d likely be a less expensive production than a live-action series.
Edit: @N9IWP beat me to this. Also, my understanding is that Staite’s Family Law has already wrapped shooting on its fourth and final season, as its final episodes are scheduled to premiere later this month.
My guess is a mini-series. They’ll pretend Serenity didn’t happen and set it twenty years after the series.
There was some speculation that there was no way Adam Baldwin would be involved but there he is. Whatever it is.
Which frankly is disappointing.

Apparently, Baldwin is extremely, vocally conservative on social media. He appears to have coined the #GamerGate hashtag (which opposed “political correctness” and feminism in video games), and he’s regularly posted anti-liberal, misogynistic, homophobic, and transphobic stuff.
Yup, very hateful stuff and I will not support anything he is involved in.

It’s too late anyway, if it truly is getting the band back together and not some lame animated series. 54 year old Nation Fillion running around with his bouncing moobs isn’t exaclty a return of the dashing Mal Reynolds. This has all the appeal of the latest Matrix movie.
My money’s on a “reunion” on The Rookie.
And yeah, Adam Baldwin is a throbbing ass tumor.
As long as we’re talking trash, there are rumors that Fillion isn’t as likeable in real life as his public persona. He apparently wants to ensure that he is seen as the lead on a series he’s in and lashes out at other actors who get too popular.
A couple of them have already been on. Alan Tudyk has been on a few times. It will be very disappointing if that’s what it is.
Fillion has said, “it’s not a cross-over,” which would seem to rule this out, IMO.
I always want to believe that actors I like are nice in real life, though they’re normal people, and I shouldn’t be surprised when they turn out not to be.
I used to love Fillion in Castle, but late in that series, it came out that he and his co-star, Stana Katic, couldn’t stand each other, and that relationship got even worse as the series went on, apparently to the point that, in the show’s final season, they were rarely on screen together. If that’s true, I have no idea if it was one, or both, of them at fault.
