Hm, I can do youtube just fine but occasionally have issues if someone links a vimeo video. I did have issues with youtube back when I was using win7, as I recall it was a flash issue. I updated both flash and firefox and it got them working together again. [Since I don’t get many links to vimeo I am not worrying about it, I can generally find the same video on youtube with a little rummaging.]
I haven’t installed the most recent Firefox, but I haven’t noticed this problem. YouTube has a new thing now where if you’re having a problem viewing a video, you can click on a link that is supposed to tell you what might be wrong, have you tried that?
I’ve had this problem off and on as well, although not with the latest FF update. It only occurred on my home PC and not at work. I figured it was a hard/soft-side problem and not a network problem because all our other net devices played YouTube fine.
What I can suggest are the following actions.
Update Flash or do a clean install. (This solved my problem for the most part.)
Clear your cookie cache to get rid of a corrupt cookie.
Stop using Flash for YouTube and set it to HTML5 instead. (The problem with this is the HTML5 player doesn’t support every video on the site yet.)
In any case, if you’re still experiencing problems, you can just refresh the page and the video should play as normal. I know it’s a hassle but it works as a temporary solution.
Today I started having some of my usual music videos stop in mid-song or continue the visual while muting the audio. Just started today. I recently installed Ad Block to get rid of YouTube’s annoying ads and wondered if that could have anything to do with it. But I installed that a week or two ago, and today is the first time it’s happened. It’s not every video, but the videos it does hit, it happens every time I play them. No error message though.
I’ve been having the OP’s problem too, the latest FF on Windows 7 64bit. But I don’t use YouTube enough for it to be annoying enough to want to fix yet.
