First time dad at 44!

Congratulations! Now get some sleep! Fast! You’ll need it!

Welcome to the world, little one! Congratulations mom and dad!

It’s more complicated than that.

The risk of infertility and birth defects both go up steadily from the early 20s. There’s nothing magical about age 35.

The age 35 was chosen because the risk (at the time) of accidental miscarriage due to an amnio was lower at that age than the risk of common genetic defects in the fetus. In other words, doctors assumed - and didn’t explain to patients this assumption - that a woman would rather have a miscarriage than risk not detecting and aborting a “defective” fetus. Hardly informed consent. They should simply explain all the risks at any age and let the woman decide what to do.

Congratulations! I’m so happy for you guys!!!

And I promise not to tell ANYONE!

GRATZ! Well, now nobody can ask you

Where the beef?

Congratulations!

My mom was 38 and my dad 48 when I was born, and now he’s 81 and still going relatively strong. Actually, when I’d go to Duke’s nerd camp in the summers, most of the other scary smart kids had older parents. It’ll be fine.

I just realized I had not posted any pictures yet, so here is a link to my picasa page.

Congratulations!!

But something is a-miss. Your link says, “Page not found”.

whoops! Try it now…see if that works!

I still get the PNF error but maybe it’s just my browser setting or something. I’ll wait and see if someone else can see the pics.

Okay, lets try this…

Awesome kid!

Since the thread’s been resurrected, we may as well ask: how’s that “First time dad at 44” thing going, anyway?
