Whenever I send someone a card–be it one that I make from scratch, one I buy, or one of those electronic greeting cards–I always include a poem which I write especially for the person and event. Oddly enough, I do not expect anyone else on the planet to do the same for me when they send me a card. I merely appreciate the thought. Words of wisdom: “It’s the thought that counts.”
Of course, it takes a working brain to have a thought.
I think flami made a bad judgment call in her thread by presenting the topic unfairly, but I think it is a bit disingenious to say she meant to slam her friend. She knows where the pit is.
Ironic that in asking about manners she basically acted improperly? Yeah.
But the whole MS thing? Red herring, people. She has told us (and I only mention it because she has, I would otherwise consider it not my business to say so) that she has a mild form of cerebral palsy, which is a condition that affects motor control. So it isn’t like she has no clue what it means to have some condition that can affect a person in non-standard ways.
She made a bad judgment call, and probably deserves a little slamming for it.
As for the “degenerate” comment… well, she’s on her own there. Just wanted to say my piece about the card thing.

Of all the people Flami had to whine about, it had to be about one of the kindest, gentlest, classiest people I know, on the board or off. Truthfully, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of a good bitchslap than she.
Under normal circumstances, I’d suggest that she stay with my grandmother for a while to learn some grace and manners. Unfortunately, my grandmother has even less patience with whiny, ungrateful, no-class candy asses than the SDMB does.

Yesterday I was driving to work and suddenly everyone was slowing down, quickly. Well an accident had just occurred on the other side of the freeway (for those of you interested and understand LA freeways, it was the 405 in Long Beach). I of course had to look (I think it is the law that we must look at all accidents to determine if they are sight seeing worthy or just run of the mill everyday fender benders). There was a truck and a couple of cars who got too personal with each other. Well there was this van that was rolled over and I saw a group of about a half dozen men gather round the van trying to help the person inside (the cops hadn’t got there yet). All these gentlemen were in suits but you could tell they were doing their part to help someone in need. It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling to have that remembrance that there are those people in the world who will help others even if it puts their good clothes in jeopardy.
now I have read the post by Flamsterette_X and have once again been reminded that there are some people in the world who aren’t as nice as they should be.

I reckon its stress from having to think about being one year older :rolleyes so I guess this is why she was so bitchy to me when I devoted a thread to her a day before her birthday.

Wow. I don’t have a lot of friends, so whenever I get a birthday card it means a whole lot to me. I keep a bunch of them in a shoebox and look at them when I’m lonely. I know that sounds pathetic, but it’s true.
I find it ironic that Flammy, who makes a big deal of announcing all the Dopers’ birthdays each month, would crap on someone who went out of his way to acknowledge her special day.
Flamsterette, you deserve the vitriol being heaped upon you now. Ungrateful and mean people gets no love. But tomorrow is a new day. You should make amends by doing something extra nice for your friend. And you should also apologize for being an asshat to Tiburon.
