The **wooooo-hoooo **you heard all the way in those nice Chicago 'burbs was me cheering you on, rigsy. Big congrats!
Sorry for the icky workdays, **taxi **and Muppet.
Heat sounds awful, Taters. It’s been really nice here, for the most part. ::knocks on wood that it stays that way::
I too just ordered a new phone - a Crackberry something-or-other that had excellent reviews. They were going to give me a nice deal on an iPhone, but I’d have had to upgrade my plan and I wasn’t about to do that (I have a super-cheap plan that no longer exists). I don’t have texting in my plan and don’t plan to hook e-mail up to it, so some of the functionality is lost on it, but my existing phone is on its last legs and I really don’t want to be without. I’ve been thinking about dumping my land line, but can’t quite bring myself to do so. If the call quality on the new phone is good enough, I might give it more thought. And then maybe add texting to my plan. We’ll see.
And I think I’m going to have to go to the doc-in-a-box tomorrow. I seem to have a second round of “traveler’s diarrhea.” With fever, this time. Why oh why oh why was I too stubborn to follow my uncle’s advice and talk to one of the family docs and then get the appropriate amount of Cipro???
I’m wildly guessing that the culprits are the couple slices of strawberries on mom’s birthday cake (which was a to-die-for - well, not quite, thanks - cheesecake). We had it at a mega-ritzy restaurant, but, still…even the mega-ritzy might slip up (or just get a bad batch of strawberries). (Rule number 1 of traveling to Mexico: eat no fresh fruit except from Mom’s kitchen; broke it several times. :smack::smack::smack::smack: )
Am taking some OTC meds in the meantime, but depending on how I feel tomorrow, my first stop may be the doc… Argghhhhhh.
Poor gt. Hope you feel better soon. I knew that it’s a bad idea of drink the tap water in Mexico, but that’s the first time I hear about the no-fresh-fruit rule… I’d imagine it would be hard to stick to it, though, considering how nice the fruit must be over there.
Congrats on the promotion, rigs! That’s wonderful.
Moooooom, it sounds like you attended the same meeting I was in. When did you start working in Canadian telecom, pray tell?
In other news, it looks like our month-long garbage strike is finally coming to an end. Which is good, because we were finally reaching the limits of our garbage/recycling/compost bins, and opening the garage door was becoming an ever-more-frightening thought. I’m ever so thankful that the weather never got all that hot… because a 90F+ day would have been stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinky.
Mornin’ all. My tummy bug has caught its second wind, despite the antibiotics, so I am going back to the clinic this morning. So, gt, I feel for you, I really do!
Today’s looking better work-wise. And they just told us that they will be providing lunch for the meeting that they scheduled from 11:30-1 tomorrow.
We just scheduled our new garage door installation for next Wednesday. Yay! Plus, this will give me an excuse to work from home for half a day. Also yay!
Whatever the heck I had last week as Teh Sick is something going around. VWife has is currently, and one of the guys at the fire department meeting had it last night, too. For those amongst you who think this way, I do not believe that Eddie caught it from either of us.
This morning, VWife said I should have left Teh Sick in Boston. I had to remind her it went along for the ride.
I’m ready for the hot to go away as well. I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think it’s healthy for people to go through 50-degree shifts every day. Yesterday morning as I was on the way to the train station, it was 56 degrees at home, and when I got downtown, it was 46. When I got back home, it was 96. Just normal late July / early August weather for here…

Taters, you’ve got our hot weather. They were commenting on the local news this morning about how we’ve got normal Seattle highs this week and you’ve got normal Twin Cities highs. But as far as I’m concerned, you can keep it! This 70-degree weather is perfect. This summer has been nice and cool here, and I’m lovin’ it. We’ve barely had to turn on the AC at all. I wish we had more summers like this!
Yay for Rigs library job! Gentle hugs and soothing thoughts to GT and Dotty, along with get better soon requests! Soapy, I just know your son is having a grand time at camp.
Almost lunch time … NOL, btw, and speaking of which, where have you been, SpecialOne?! Hope all is well! Ah yes, hope that Taxi’s day is better today, and that the lunch turns out to be tasty.
Went for a walk on my break… too many stupid little frustrating things at work today, but I’m feeling much better now that I walked it off and grabbed some NOL. Belly is full, head is clear, all is well.
It’s not all that hot over here, but it is muggy - it’s not even 80F, but I still feel sticky and gross the second I step outside. Anyone wanna trade?
Many thanks to you all. I am nervous and need some confidence, but I am very happy about it. I haven’t decided what to do about my nursing job yet. I’m going to wait until I hear back from library people re salary etc. I do need to tell my nursing boss ASAP, but I also know it will Be A Problem and I may have to quit (which will drop my income substantially. Libs don’t make what RNs do).
I’m sorry to hear about Teh Sick and other gastric difficulties. Never much fun at anytime, but especially yucky in summer.
I hate heat and am appalled at the intense heat in the Pacific Northwest (of all places). I’ve decided that Mother Nature is pissed off that Twilight was set up there. It’s my theory and I’m sticking with it! We turned the AC on for only the second time this summer last night. I hate AC, too!
I loves me some lighthouses (but not Great Lakes ones, sorry), so Boston Harbor light was fun to see. I am partial to Nobska Light, from my childhood summering there.
Here it is in winter (which I’ve rarely seen). Nobska
I went and bought new tile for the broken part of the front porch today. We are so the Clampetts right now–all that’s missing is a broken major appliance on said front porch. I probably just jinxed myself with that. Anyway, the tile has been crumbling and is now missing whole bits; our porch looks like it has the pox. It’s $400+ for the tile and the grout. The labor estimate will come tomorrow night from the same guy who did our kitchen (Ed–the pony-tailed, pot smoking artisan and commune living tile guy. He does great work!)
Such is life at Casa Rigs at present. Am going to make brownies soon–just because I CAN. Enjoy your Tuesday, all.
