In case you’re all wondering, SpecialOne is off on holiday until 7th August, I know this 'cos he told me.
It’s raining and quite cool here, I has blurfs today. I haven’t slept very well for the past few nights largely because 'im indoors has been snoring and I have a ‘tennis elbow’ type of injury that is painful most of the time. Nothing much I can do about it, but it’s not helping with the snoozles.
At least it’s halfway to the weekend, it’s beerverages tonight, and I will be in Hungary in 12 days’ time. And tomorrow is payday!
Up and caffeinating. Thanks for the info on SpecialOne, BooFae; it’s good to know that he’s on vacation, and hopefully a -real- vacation. Sorry you’re blurfy today, but sounds like you’re going to be ready for Hungary.
GT, glad to hear that you’re feeling better; hope that Dotty is feeling some better too.
I was so tired last night, I crashed at 8 and didn’t get up till 6:30 this morning. I’m spending the day at home waiting for my new phone to be delivered. Nelly is gurarding the food bowl in a plot to stave Gordie into submission.
Hope you get over the blurfs and the elbow for Hungary, BooFae.
Taters and anyone else dealing with lotsa heat: if you’re drinking a lot of water, be sure to eat something salty, too. You can quickly develop an electrolyte imbalance; even more so if you’re exercising or doing strenuous activity and just drinking water.
Symptoms are nausea and muscle cramps; this can quickly become heat exhaustion, cardiac arrhythmia, or even heat stroke.
We had a house fire Saturday night while I was on bambilance duty. I told everyone who went into the house wearing SCBAs about drinking water and eating salty stuff. If they didn’t and we had to come haul them to the hospital, I’d be the one starting the IV on them. Everyone got the point (pun intended).

Blurf. My donwannas are so bad that I don’t think I’ll go foraging this morning.
The only thing stopping me from going postal right now is the thought of seeing the hubby in in 15 days don’t want to be in the French prison system for that methinks
Oh 2 things - the bottle of wine chilling in the fridge for tonight
No speakers to listen to the Shatner/Palin thing, but it sounds like it’d be hysterical. I’ll have to watch when I get home.
Sorry it’s so nasty hot there, Taters. Hope it cools down soon but *without *all that heat heading towards **rigs **and me! It’s lovely and cool here - in the 50s this morning - and I’d be fine with it staying that way for the rest of the summer!
We had a homeowners’ board meeting last night and KT got elected to the board. I hope this is a good thing! He’s excited in any case. And I’m excited about having a direct line to the board - I can complain about the poor wilting flowers around the pool, and maybe something will get done about it!
OK, that was all written about half an hour ago… I just had a meeting with my manager and I’m getting a promotion and a raise!! Woohoo! Drinks are on me!
Today is supposed to be the hottest day of our heat wave. They’re predicting temps of 104 to 106 degrees! I’m meeeeelllllllttttttiiiiiiiinnnnnnnng! Thank goodness I have AC here at work, because I certainly don’t have it at home.
I should get back to the grindstone. I only have today and tomorrow at work and then I’m on sweet, sweet vacation!
Moody Friend and I are both supposed to have today off. We both have to go in to work anyway–him because the other manager begged off and me because I’ve got to do a site tour of the other hotels in the group today AND tomorrow. So I’m listening to gangsta rap on YouTube to get ready for the day.
Oh yeah, I weighed myself this morning and I hit my first goal weight! I’ve lost fifty-six pounds since I quit antidepressants two years ago!
Taters, I can bunde up some of the cold and wet we have today and send it to your inbox. I wouldn’t mind a hot day or two, just so my 'maters can finally get around to ripening (but just one or two… then it can go back to cool and wet for the rest of the summer)
Congrats on the promotion, taxi, and even more importantly on getting yourself a nice raise to go with it!
I’m so pissed with Boss Guy right now I could just spit. He bailed on an important meeting this morning, and didn’t even give me a heads up about it. It’s not the first time he’s done this either, and it’s really pissing me off… if he wants me to play proxy, he just needs to say so, rather than leaving me to decide whether we should wait for his lazy ass to show up or just make excuses for him.
Just because I can do his job better than he can doesn’t mean I should.
My tummy is feeling a bit better (thanks in part to a whole medicine cabinet of drugs from my friendly neighbourhood clinic doctor), but I am getting extremely fed up with bland food - I would really love a bacon double cheeseburger with some chipotle sauce and a serve of cheese fries, washed down with an ice cold beerverage! Drooollllllll!!!
It’s hot here too (always is, really, isn’t it!?!) - current heat index of 103°F/39°C, but the AC works, so I shan’t complain too vociferously!
I do the same thing at the Renaissance Faire, except without IVs. Keep drinking that dragon sweat (half-strength Gatorade*) or I’ll be ripping their clothes off and sticking cold packs in places they probably never expected.
If this crap tastes good, you’re in big trouble, hydration-wise.
Seeing as I’m moving to the part of the world where people make icebox pies and refer to the fridge as an icebox, I guess I’ll have to learn what an icebox pie is. Actually, I know what they are - they’re just really uncommon in the west for some reason.
I’m guessing it’s not a recipe that can withstand some West Coast style gourmet-ification. There’s really no substitute for condensed milk, but fresh-squeezed Myer lemon juice instead of frozen lemonade mix, and whipped manufacturing cream instad of Cool Whip probably will only result in a sticky mess.
OMG–I loved Shatner’s rendition of Palin’s speech. Only he could do justice to it.
I am still laughing over here. Thanks,** Rosie!** (and sorry about your loss).
I am having coffee with a friend today. Last night Daughter convinced me to go to the yoga class with her, using a guest pass she had to the racquet club (she belongs, I don’t). It kicked my ass, but I loved it. I am a bit sore this morning, though. It feels good!
Just called Sears - the guy couldn’t tell me where the part for my dryer is. Supposedly someone from the parts dept will be calling. I am not pleased - it’s been a week…
That’s about all I’ve got. Time to make supper and stuff.
