I’m beginning to think Lynn Johnston holds Elizabeth in as much contempt as her readers do.
I was so happy to see that Anthony had already invited someone. Maybe Elizabeth will meet someone new at the wedding. Anthony derserves a totally different type of woman than what Elizabeth is. And she needs a very different guy.
No way. She and Anthony will each go with someone who’s “humorously” inappropriate for them, and by the end of the evening they’ll realize it and swoon into each other’s arms. The last ten years have all been building up to it.
I have this horrible awful feeling that Anthony’s “date” is his daughter, and he’s just trying to make Elizabeth value him more by being (temporarily) unavailable.
If the artist MUST stick Elizabeth with this goon, can’t she have him shave off his Ned Flanders moustache?

I admit it, I feel a tiny little twinge of sympathy for Elizabeth…
I didn’t. She now knows how any guy who asked her out feels when he got shot down. Tony was a ‘safe’ date for her, someone she expected always to be waiting for her call. I cheered when it was turned around back onto her.
Thus the phrase, “He justs wants it to be a surprise.”
I don’t get it. Is “Elizabeth” an allegory for England? Or what’s the buzz?

Not me, man. He’s been panting after her for years and she’s ignored him. Now she’s willing to take a look at him because all her other prospects have turned into dishonorable dogs, in true FBOFW fashion – and he’s not going to be the consolation prize. He already has a date! HA! Good for Granthony, sez I.
Mind you, I still think they’re going to end up together. I think Johnston has to resolve E.'s romantic future before she winds the thing down in September (assuming that’s still her intention). He’s the last man standing at this point and there’s not enough time to introduce someone else.
I haven’t been following this strip for quite a long time, but JEEZ. That’s Anthony? Isn’t he supposed to be in about his 20s? I seriously think he looks in his 50s or 60s. Weird.
If these are based on the real life adventures of Johnston’s kids, she must not think very highly of her daughter. That, or she must not realize how pathetic she’s made Lizard Breath look.
Nah, that’s definitely a “perverted uncle” 'stache.
(I grew up in the '80s; anytime someone presented material about preventing child molestation, at least two of the actors portraying molesters had those moustaches.)

Pfft. She’ll go with Warren, who will start macking on the “nice girl from Accounting” before the reception’s over. Liz and Anthony will both realize their dates are skanks and end up together. End of storyline. End of strip.
