I know that we have all had our share of assholes in this unbelievable tragedy. I just have to vent on two people that I have run into since 8:45 yesterday morning.
To the asshole at the bar last night:
You know, I realize that this is a free country. I realize that freedom of speech is an important issue in this country. I just want to let you know that the things you are saying are not fucking helping.
Your snide remarks and hollering don’t bring back the dead. When they talk about going to synagogues, mosques, and churches, yelling “I GOT YOUR MOSQUE RIGHT HERE!” and grabbing your crotch makes you look like the seeping asshole that you really are. I notice you didn’t notice that there was a man of Arabic descent sitting directly to my right, who became more uncomfortable with every word you said. Unless you have inside information, shut the fuck up. You cannot blame one race, one religion, or one group of people. You don’t know who did this. (And if you did, I hope you burn in hell for all eternity.) So, shut the fuck up. Show your support for America and all affected by doing something constructive, you bleeding, pus-filled boil on the ass of humanity. I know actually telling you to shut the fuck up last night probably didn’t help the situation, but I prayed for you to get eternal bleeding hemmorhoids under my breath. Go donate some money, some blood, and stay the hell out of my bar.
To my best friend:
I realize that you are a staunch, conservative Republican. I know you voted for Bush, and that you think he is God’s gift to the world. But sitting there kvetching about how “if Clinton hadn’t…” doesn’t do dick for the situation at hand. Hell, prior to this tragedy, I wouldn’t have listened to a word Dubya said. But it is a time for us to all come together, not sit and bitch and place blame on one political party. They are not the ones responsible for this. There is a small group of people that are responsible. They are called terrorists, not Congressmen or Senators or Former Presidents. I cannot believe that you (and other people, I’m sure) would take this time to bitch and moan about political parties. Your aunt worked in the WTC and your mother’s best friend works at the Pentagon. I think it’s time for you to be concerned with the people who have been injured and/or killed, not the political actions of people.
And on a side note…
To the morning DJs:
Don’t fucking play “Yesterday” by the Beatles. I really don’t want to have to associate that song with such a horrible tragedy. During Hurricane Hugo, you played “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and spoke about how the draw-bridges went out after spinning around on their supports. I can’t listen to that song any more. Don’t do this. I know you think it may be comforting, but play something more uplifting. All morning long, you have been playing patriotic songs that made me feel like things were going to be ok. (Hell, even “Born in the USA” was uplifting. And I’m not a Springsteen fan.) Keep in mind, this is not a time to play sad songs. It may have the opposite effect of what you are trying to do.
::sigh:: I hope the asshole-ishness dies down soon. I’m starting to get frustrated, and I refuse to add to the melee.
