For Questionable Content fans...Comic #1059

That’s how I know it’s time to move to a new city.

Hmm. I’ve put a lot of effort into building this reputation. I’d hate to have to start over from scratch.

Although color me surprised that you’re in the opportunistic vagina club, Mr. Mcnally.

I’m actually in an offshoot of the opportunistic vagina club. I’m the president of the Opportunistic Peni club. We have jackets.

It’s a lot harder to find female country lyricists though. I’m working on Taylor Swift right now. It isn’t going to well.

I’ve noticed that Jeph’s characters often seem to get smaller and taller relative to each other. I think this time was for effect, but Hanners has been noticeably shorter than Marten and Dora before and eye-level with Faye. And other times not.

I agree, Hanners sounds much like her Mom on that mall trip a while back – “Hannelore, you will stop that this instant!”

It doesn’t seem right that Faye is hacked off at Marten for not being upset about Faye’s, erm, good fortune.

Has Hannelore ever had sex before? Her asking about it…what you say after…it made me wonder.

I think she’s mentioned that she’s been kissed once, and that she took scalding hot water to her skin after that.
Although she’s been the sane one in this story arch, you can’t forget she’s batshit insane.

I remember…that was back in 8th grade or so, I think.

I hope she hooks up with a cute, neurotic boy soon. Hannelore is fast becoming my favorite character of the series.

I’d never considered the question, but I don’t find it the least bit surprising that Hanners would be a virgin. Do you?

I think there wouldn’t be enough Summer’s Eve in three Safeways to supply her need for disinfection afterward.

Hannelore: "Sex is for no! Too many fluids and germs and sweat and ew. Totally yuck. Ew.

So it seems likely the answer is no.

For some reason I’d been reading that comic as that she’d poured hot water on him, though this way does make a lot more sense.

Actually, its ambiguous – the title of that comic was “wait, on him or her?”

I guess I find it hard to believe. But I really want her to find someone–she’s super awesome.

Man, she looked different back in that first strip she appears in.

Faye Whitaker: the most frustrating person in the universe. Man, that was kind of cold the way she just said, “thanks, but no thanks, bye-cya” to Sven. Then again, Sven was all, “nobody’s angry? Great, let’s bone!” which sounds pretty shallow, so he kind of had it coming.

But that silent look out the door at Faye’s departure, foretells more drama later.

I’d forgotten that Marten actually met her by herself in a bar. Which doesn’t seem very Hannersish to me, now, actually. To tell the truth, after going back and looking through the strips just before that, she doesn’t seem very Hannersish at all…way too self-confident and capable of having conversations with strangers.

I had thought the same, and I ended up rereading the entire archives from that strip to the present. Hanners explained it in a later strip by saying she was on anti-anxiety meds at the time. And she does like drinking, so bars would be a familiar setting to her in any case.

Of course, that’s most likely the author going “Oh crap, continuity glitch!” and writing in a quick explanation, but hey, it works.

I guess it is a bit of a quick explanation–but yeah, it works for me. The Hanners we know and love today might not be able to do that. Then again…she is getting way more assertive when it comes to speaking her mind and yelling at Faye. She’s a complicated woman…

More than anything else, Hanners having long hair throws off her early characterization for me.

Dude, if there was no drama following this interlude, it would be a very boring story arc. Faye and Sven engage in extreme drunken groping with no emotional consequences on either part? Yawn! What’s Milholland up to?

If this were Milholland, Faye would have already stuck Sven’s hand in a blender and served it to him in a martini glass…
