Forbidden Thread for Mafia: Simpletown

Who is on the clock for not meeting the ‘four substantial posts’ benchmark?

substantive = game related.
Basically, bufftabby has posted mostly fluff about blackberries. It’s not even game fluff. I counted one game related post (a vote). Two if I’m feeling generous. Most everyone else is in the clear.

I kept the warning purposefully vague; but I wanted everyone to know that I’m counting posts.

And, yes the rule is fuzzy. But the bar is ridiculously low. Four posts isn’t asking all that much.

While I understand why you would implement this rule. And as a novice I probably shouldn’t even ask this. But wouldn’t the players themselves enforce such an action by going after the fluff posters with the power of voting to lynch?

For those of us playing Batman Mafia, the April Fools joke is over.

They are certainly welcome to do so. Essentially the rule is there to serve as a metric for when someone needs to be replaced. Everyone should know what that metric is, and like I said, 4 posts is a very low bar to pass. I wanted to state the replacement/removal criterion explicitly.

Maybe so, but what fun is that?! The fun of the game is trying to find the scum by sparking discussion and analyzing posts.

Well I don’t know, if people start getting some votes for lurking/fluff they would start posting and make the rule history. I understand having the rule because it doesn’t seem to work that way. The lurkers don’t get picked on. But it would make the game discussion much more interesting if people would drag the lurkers out.

sigh I’ve already fallen off the hoverwagon. I just can’t seem to maintain any attention span for games that I’m not participating in on some level. :frowning:

Meh, Day 1 has been fairly par for the course so far. Nothing too exciting. There are a lot of new players in this game (half by my count). So the following Days are bound to be more interesting.

Well, I’ve just been skimming (yeah, scum tell, I know), but I don’t see how this isn’t just a convoluted crapshoot just like it was in the last game. I think people are accusing folks based on nothing. “get my claws out,” just seemed like a joke to me, but looks like Meno might get lynched for it. Ice Cream Man’s No Lynch vote seems bizarre, but I don’t know that I’d call it scummy.

I just don’t see how anything that happens on day one can be of substance. I’m thinking that the only advantage is to get people on record so you can catch them in contradictions on later days. All the talk today seems like nothing but smudging to me. Plus, what’s actually a defense for a vanilla townie against a random lynch vote? What should you say? Is there anything to say? I’m trying to learn here, so, feel free to throw your two cents in.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. Day 1 is all about getting your voice heard, votes made, etc so they can be looked back over in the subsequent days.

There really isn’t a defence for a vanilla townie to make other than defending whatever other players are seeing as scummy. Also, making a convincing case against someone else is a good way to sway the vote away from you. In the end though, the death of a Vanilla townie is not a big deal. The town’s advantage is in numbers and they can afford to lose a certain number of players; better vanilla than a power role being outed.

Vanilla townies are like cannon fodder. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s rare that a scum gets lynched Day 1 anyway.

Ok…it seems I’ve got it without knowing that I had it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Any predictions about Menocchio? Looks like he’s about to die.

I don’t think he’s scum, but I’ve been skimming, so that probably means I’m scum instead.

Vanilla Town

Alpha Wolf?

I don’t really think that, but it would be funny.

I WAG vanilla townie as well. 7 come 11!

Yeah.

At a couple of points people said things like “Menocchio’s a veteran player, so he should know better.” Well, the way I see it, I’m batting 0.500 for not getting lynched the first damn day (and I didn’t so that great without playing the doctor card in Recruitment), so I certainly don’t feel like a veteran. I’m pretty sure “I’ve been in a few games, but I suck” isn’t a decent defense though, so I didn’t try to play it.

Looks like I botched the non-role claim too. My intent was not to claim vanilla, because what’s the point? I’m still disposable and uncomfirmable. And if I left some doubt, I wouldn’t shrink the pool the real town power roles were hiding in. But it just looked suspicious.

Oh well, that’s Day 1 for you. What I’ve learned: Don’t get sick and change your posting style so soon after a game were you distinguished yourself for aggression.

And I still think bufftabby’s up to something.

Don’t feel too bad. I was kind of surprised your lynch went through. There really wasn’t anything there. Someone even observed that two of your votes (of four at the time) were random. It seems that this town doesn’t like to change its direction. Inertia may be this town’s undoing. But it’s only Day One.
