Former staffer accuses Joe Biden of sexual assault

Your mind-reading powers are failing you. I don’t like Biden, but spreading false allegations of sexual assault or rape is a terrible thing and I’d never do it on purpose. I wouldn’t wish such a thing on anyone – even Trump! Certainly not on Biden. I believe this should be taken seriously because I’m attempting to put any possible political bias aside and treat it just like I did those accusations against Kavanaugh, or Al Franken, for that matter (Franken was my #1 favorite Senator before the scandal, by the way).

I don’t have any knowledge about these particular allegations beyond that they were made. That she used to work for Biden is enough that this is a step beyond random/baseless internet silliness – and that’s enough that the party should be (and probably is) trying to find out if there’s anything to these allegations. Ignoring them could be suicidal for the party’s hopes.

Just consider that some of us care about fighting sexual assault and rape more than any political candidate or election – even more than this one. But in this case, investigating the allegation helps the Democrats, since the party absolutely needs to know whether there’s any possibility of future allegations against Biden from people he used to work with or come into contact with.

So both for both moral and strategic political reasons, these allegations must be taken seriously.

Those restrictions were designed to make sure the investigation was over well before the midterm elections just in case they found something and had to rush another nominee through the process. But they could interview anyone they wanted.

“The White House authorized the F.B.I. to expand its abbreviated investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh by interviewing anyone it deems necessary as long as the review is finished by the end of the week, according to two people briefed on the matter.” https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/01/us/politics/trump-fbi-kavanaugh.html

A full FBI investigation takes months if not years. We can’t put this sort of wait time on every supreme court nominee. It’s ridiculous to even suggest.

The FBI had a week to interview anyone they wanted to interview and not a single one of those witnesses corroborated Ford’s story.

It’s been more than a year! What the hell are they waiting for? When are you going to admit to yourself that you were just a useful tools used by Democrats to try and create sufficient outrage to try delay the confirmation vote until the midterms. This was pretty clearly the intent behind that entire circus back then and one of the contributing factors behind the our failure to take the senate that year.

They had a year between the two events to START the investigation.

Bullshit on both counts:

“On October 1, The New York Times reported that the White House had authorized the FBI to expand its investigation and interview “anybody they want within reason”. McGahn apparently followed up on this by calling the FBI and stating that the investigation could be expanded. On interviewing Swetnick, Trump stated “It wouldn’t bother me at all. Now I don’t know all three of the accusers. Certainly I imagine they’re going to interview two. The third one I don’t know much about.” Despite this, later reports continued stating that the FBI had not contacted many people due to the White House restrictions, including Ford and Kavanaugh themselves.”

It was restricted because they didn’t want to find anything. The timing restrictions aided these hopes to not find anything.

They didn’t even interview Ford or Kavanaugh. It was a bullshit sham of an investigation.

They did start investigating Kavanaugh, as promised.

The FBI was allowed to interview whoever they wanted. The only real restriction was time. They got a week to find something and they couldn’t. The entire point behind this effort by the Democrats was to delay the vote until after the midterms.

That quote is from wikipedia

Can we get this away from yet another Kavanaugh thread?

For the record, I didnt accept her allegations vs Kavanaugh also as they were too old. Memories that old are worthless.

You are correct. I mis-remembered.

Yes we all understand that you have now moved the goal posts now that your initial statement was called out. But of course you always meant that all along, the goal posts never moved

So how did society treat the wealthy white man accused in this case?

Since I don’t think it will ever be more than “he said-she said” I will have to vote for the vice presidential candidate that I prefer. So, not voting for Biden, voting for the Dem VP over Pence. Not insignificant chance the VPOTUS could become POTUS before 2024.

Congratulations on your well-declared victory! Next time, instead of wasting time on a bunch of discussion, maybe just declare victory at the start so we don’t have to go through all this (whatever it was, just so that you could pretend to win)?

Extremely well, all things considered.

Difference between “care” and “concern”:

I care a great deal about my knee. I’m not concerned about my knee - it’s doing fine.

I care about the rights of accused people. But I am not concerned about their rights, in general, at least if they’re wealthy and influential.

Why? You want to get back to Biden sexually assaulting a former aide? That’s what you feel like talking about? Nobody’s stopping you. What is on your mind?

It would be easier if you just admitted that you were wrong to begin with. But in the 5 years I have noticed your debates, I don’t think I have ever seen you ever admit you were wrong about anything. It’s mostly mealymouthed “well if you look at it this other way (that no normal person wold look at things), then I could still be right”

You’re kind of the reason why people send death threats to folks like Kavanaugh and his family. This is what woke looks like.

Death threats is extremely well? So what are these things that you are considering in making this judgment that he was treated well? He was merely accused of doing something 30 years ago by someone who can’t get her best friends to corroborate and he was subjected to death threats. You should be ashamed.

That is fairly bad wording in the wiki article. That sentence cites this article:

The cited article does not seem state any sort of restriction being placed on the who could be interviewed. Only that the FBI did not interview everyone that wanted to be interviewed. It doesn’t even seem to be saying that the time restraints prevented the FBI from interviewing folks that they wanted to interview but simply didn’t have time to interview. Perhaps you can fix this wiki article as well you know to clarify things that don’t jibe with the cited article.

They already had statements under oath. What information did Ford want to relay that she did not get a chance to express? I’m sure you would have liked a years long investigation into a 30 year old incident that might never have happened but this was a polticial gimmick

Wait, what does this have to do with Dr. Ford’s allegations of attempted rape?

Oh that’s right NOTHING. It’s an attempt to discover if they can accuse Kavanaugh of perjury by lying under oath about OTHER stuff.

This isn’t at all what you were talking about. You were clearly talking about a congressional investigation into Dr. Ford’s allegations but now it’s any investigation on any topic. Pfft. You are moving the goalposts here again to make yourself right. You simply cannot admit you were ever wrong about anything can you?

So woke.

So very typical woke.

But I’m not. Care is different than concern. I used different words on purpose.

I’ve been wrong sometimes and I’ve admitted it. I remember being really annoyed once because HD found a major factual error I made! But I admitted it. If I haven’t been wrong in our discussions, that’s not my fault.

So now the death threats made by others are my fault? That’s just ridiculous.

Overall, he was treated extremely well. He’s on the highest court in the land, with lots of money and prestige, despite his lies and unsuitable temperament. Sucks that he got death threats, but overall he was treated very well by society.

Treating him appropriately would have meant denying him the SCOTUS nomination and removing him from lower courts for perjury, forcing him to live out his days as a wealthy white man in America.

It was a sham either way. They didn’t interview many people they should have, and weren’t able to dig into employment records and the like that might have confirmed or denied parts of Ford’s story.

Compete and utter sham. You can trust Trump and McConnell if you like, but I certainly don’t.

We’ll see if I was wrong about the Democrats in congress. I hope not, but time will tell. I’m glad they started to look into Kavanaugh, and hopefully they will continue to.

I love how this is your new meaningless insult! Is “woke” the new SJW?

I get that not everyone is quite as laser focused on fighting sexual assault and rape culture as I am. What I don’t get is why this seems so alien or unbelievable to some. I mean, there are folks who vote, or who advocate, purely based on guns, or purely based on abortion, or purely based on the environment. Why is it so hard to imagine that I might be as strongly focused on this issue? It’s not even my only issue. Just one of the top 2 or 3 or so.

I support Biden so I don’t want him smeared. I hope he is our next president, and definitely don’t want the current president to remain in office. This accusation doesn’t pass the smell test for me, but I’d like it investigated for 3 reasons…

  1. So there is no cloud hanging over Biden about an accusation that wasn’t followed up on.

  2. So that it can be shown to be bogus, as her story is inconsistent and some of her claims shown to be impossible. (My gut tells me that this is plausible.)

  3. If somehow this was actually true and there is some way to prove it, he should face justice for such a horrific thing and she should be vindicated.

Let’s all be honest here. Who’d be surprised if there were NO such allegation made between now and November? Hell, they’ve probably got them set to time-release for maximum impact.

Remember E-Dub’s law: Where there’s smoke, there’s often a smoke machine.

Appropriately?? After them finding exactly ZERO evidence.

This is EXACTLY what I am talking about regarding YOU and the public opinion court. After the investigation, APPROPRIATELY he was confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice.

IMO, obvious liars who scream like children under reasonable and calm questioning shouldn’t be on any court in the land, much less the SCOTUS. YMMV.
