Formula 1 2025

Balatro? Where did he qualify?

#1 in the addiction GP.

Great first half of the race! Full of hard fighting and max behaved himself. The second half was full of Ferrari ferrari-ing it up. But overall, agood race.

That was a good one. I wonder if Carlos just figures, “Fuck it! If I can’t pass my old car, I’ll just crash it out!”

Ferrari de-brief outta be fun…

Ok, I can admit it. I still hate the idea of the Miami race, but I’ll watch a race like that all day long.

Driver of the day went to Oscar, but it almost went to Albon, who certainly did a great job.

Well, I hate the guy. But max deserved that one. That first lap first corner pass was brilliant and totally fair.

Lots of good action throughout. Ham up to fourth! And Albon/Williams fighting hard towards the front makes me happy!

Tsunoda is worthless.

I don’t know about that. Tsunoda’s not my favorite driver, but I think the problem Red Bull has is that they’ve created a car that only one person in the world can drive. And if you have the bad luck to be his teammate, you’re screwed. They booted Checho because he wasn’t Max, then didn’t give Liam much of a chance, and now Tsunoda is in the hot seat.

One of the only things I like about Max is that he doesn’t badmouth his teammates or blame them for not being able to drive his car.

But Christian really should have gotten the engineers to try to make a car that an ordinary (i.e., non-Max) driver could handle.

Exactly. It’s like they’ve given up trying for the constructors championship to focus on the driver’s. Which seems like they’re shooting themselves in the foot since there is no prize money for the driver’s championship (though there might be sponsorship deals to be had, I guess).

With the cost cap, the prize money is far less important than keeping Verstappen. Even Haas can cover all of the costs of the season from sponsorships alone, and Red Bull has always been about marketing, which requires winning. The only reason Verstappen is in the WDC hunt this season is because the car is so tempermental but fast. Going a route that makes the car a bit easier to drive (and faster for whoever’s in the number two seat) could very well result in it being slower, thus costing Max the title bid. Max has made it clear he’s in F1 to win and doesn’t plan to stay in the series long-term, planning to experience other parts of motorsport (sim, gt, endurance). Red Bull without Verstappen might be the junior varsity team of the Red Bull/Totally Not Baby Red Bull pair this year. That’s bad marketing.

Develop a hellish car to keep your best marketing asset happy and terrorize anyone else stuck in it, or make #2 happy (and a bit faster) while driving away the most talented driver in F1 at the moment with a subpar car?

All fair points I don’t disagree with. But also all speculation, as decent as it all sounds.

Indeed! Well thought out reasoning and arguments made.

I’m sticking with Worthless. Honda Pawn.

Lando sets new Monaco track record in qualifying. Not too shabby.

First ever in below 1:10! I think my best on gran Turismo 3 (or was it 4?) was like 1:13 in the generic F1 car modelled after Senna’s death Williams. Though the actual cars in 94 were running 1:22.

Band Name!? Maybe not…

Too soon? Maybe not.

So how do we feel about the new special rules for Monaco?

Well…it was an interesting chess match mixed with a bit of a shit show. But was it better than last year? Absolutely yes. But by not enough.

So now I guess I’ll try watching the Indy 500. Maybe I won’t fall asleep.

I don’t think the two pit stop rule worked. I’d say a simpler solution that might work would be to just say that tires cannot be changed under red. Or maybe do something really wild by restricting the teams to only softs or something.

I mean, the goal was a very low bar of being better to watch than last year. And I think they achieved that. So it it DID “work” in that respect. But yeah, they need to try something else to make it actually good. I like the chess match, but I want to see fast cars go fast, not intentionally go slow.
