This Foster Farms commercial plays every 30 seconds. When it plays, it either jumps to the bottom of the page or the top. (where the ad is playing) It takes a little mouse muscle to scroll back to what you were reading or posting. (scrollscrollscrollscrollscrollscroll)
Here it is again! If anyone needs to know about Foster Farms chicken and how it never has any antibiotics, please feel free to ask me. I’m becoming the expert by the minute here.
We’ve had issues with those types of ads. It seems to be browser dependent, as some folks don’t have to scrollscrollscrollscrollscrollscroll, where others do. I don’t think the ads are intended to be that obnoxious (just the ordinary amount of obnoxious of reminding you that Foster Farms chicken never has any antibiotics). I have a vague recollection that it’s related to certain browsers not handling something correctly, but I could be wrong on that.
If you want to support the SDMB but don’t want to see ads, you can always become a paying member. There’s also the option of installing an ad blocker. For example, Adblock Plus is available on many different platforms and devices these days. There’s even an Adblock Browser available for android.
Adblock Plus is outdated. Quite a few ads get through its filter. I use uBlock Origin.
Anyway, I thought moderators weren’t supposed to advise non-paying people on avoiding ads.
Nope. Sounds like compost. You don’t cure sick chickens, you kill them. At least for the you’s who work at factory farms like those supplying Foster’s.
Adblock Plus is available on a much wider range of platforms and browsers. uBlock Origin is good, but isn’t available on a lot of devices.
One of the issues with Adblock Plus is that by default it allows ads that are on its whitelist. There’s a checkbox under options that you can use to disable this. Still, even with the check box, Adblock Plus is allowing certain ads through.
There are plenty of ad blockers out there these days. Lots of options. Adblock Plus was just an example, as it happens to be one of the most popular.
If something is preventing someone from properly accessing this site, I’m going to tell them how to get around it. I haven’t gotten in trouble for it yet.
On the other hand, if I mysteriously disappear one of these days, you’ll know the ad police got me.
