I think Michelle Obama is really beautiful, so I read these sorts of attacks and am baffled.
Yeah, it’s strange to me. I find her to be pleasant on the eyes but am not enamoured by her. I don’t understand the vitriole. I guess party affiliation is sexy. 
But I always thought Sarah Palin was smokin’ even if I didn’t want her anywhere near the Presidency.

Allow me to be the first to explicitly add that he totally had that coming. Why does it say BANNED instead of suspended, though?
An admin has to change it from BANNED to Suspended. I believe that’s been done now.
At a job I once had, some of us were passing around a Playboy back in the warehouse. (Ah, the sexual-harrassment-lawsuit-free '80s!)
The Playmate of the month was, in my opinion, extremely beautiful. I showed it to one of our sales guys with a comment like, “The centerfold’s pretty hot this month.”
He looked at her, then looked at me like I was nuts, and said: “She’s black!”
I said, “Uhm, yeah, and she’s also gorgeous.”
He repeated, “But she’s black.” As if he simply coudn’t wrap his mind around the idea, the mere suggestion, that a white man might possibly find a black woman attractive.
He was definitely one of those “I’m-not-racist-but…” types. Though I don’t think he thought she was ugly per se, just that she didn’t even merit his decision-making effort on the matter.
I think the people throwing around “repulsive” and “pig” and so forth are coming from a similar, but much darker, place.
(I didn’t hang out with that guy much after that.)

This is the issue in a nutshell, yes. The comments are rude and boorish, mad by marginally intelligent people who happen to oppose Obama. I have a feeling they would look similar with any other subject matter.
The SDMB is by far the most well mannered and intelligent board I’ve ever found. Some of the posters are “Libruls!!!” of course…but they express themselves better than most.
