Frasier Question: What's Up With Niles? (Pos. Spoilers)

I haven’t watched Frasier in a while. The ads for it the last few weeks have got me curious. It would seem that Niles is facing some Major Bad Thing. At first, it looked as though it was going to be substance abuse (which I would not have found plausible), then it seemed to turn out to be a health problem. Would someone mind filling me in?

I think I saw a commercial that mentioned cancer. But I haven’t paid attention to Frasier in about 5 years, soo…

Niles had heart bypass surgery last week. Not a bad episode, actually. During his surgery, each member of his family (including Roz) had flashbacks about various hospital incidents which were shown happening in different rooms. Niles had made the comment (while under heavy drugs) about whether or not hospitals had memories.

It wasn’t so horrible, but I didn’t think it was as good as other episodes. I don’t really see the point of all this- well, sweeps week. Still, I prefer my “Frasier” with more comedy and less drama…

At first I also thought substance abuse, but that would have really been coming out of nowhere. Other than his drunken outburst last Halloween…:stuck_out_tongue:

It just shows how they are running out of even 1/4 decent script ideas for the show, so they had to do A Very Special Frasier episode.

Glad that this is the last season for the show.

Yes, it’s time for the series to finish itself out. And it’s no coincidence that Niles had his heart problems in November, which is a TV ratings sweeps month.

The show has at least one more season beyond this one. Interview with Peri “Roz” Gilpin.

Thanks for the info!
